Welcome back to Reverse Psychology, the Fraser Rewatch podcast where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we are finally covering Season 9, Episode 24, Moons Over Seattle, which originally aired on May 21st, 2002. Is this going to be nothing but Daphne's drunk brothers? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curtis Schack. With me is our resident Upside Downer. It's Ryan Sansone. Curtis, it's been so good to be out of the Upside Down. Where are we now? I'm so lost. I was going to say, how does it feel to get the hell out of Hawkins? It was nice for a minute, but now I forgot where Season 10 ended and where Season 9 picked up and I was just like, oh, this is bananas. Yeah, it's going to be interesting getting back into Fraser after such a hiatus. I mean, we've been doing a lot of Fraser, to be clear. We just are about to get through the new season when we're filming this one now. And it's like a real cluster. Cluster mindfuck, if we're going to be honest. Also with us today, it's our guest. It's Bradley Kirkston. Thank you so much. I'm ready to toss my salad. I'm ready to scramble my eggs. And more importantly, I'm ready to show you my moon over Seattle. This is a family podcast. We don't need... Is it? Oh, it's Curtis's family's podcast. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm so excited to talk about Fraser. I haven't talked about Fraser in like six months. So I'm excited. Yeah, Brad, how was your summer break? It was great. It was wonderful. It was Fraser free. You know, I didn't see any Fraser characters in real life. In real life? Can you not say it was wonderful? I avoided anything to do with the podcast? Well, I was getting to the fact that I'm not allowed to because of the other part of the Fraser stuff we do, but okay. Yeah, but you can't say it was great. I didn't do anything Fraser. Those should be two separate thoughts. I spent six months focusing on this episode, so I'm ready to go. Brad, I know that you've been dutifully listening to our entire run of Die Hard. What would your comment card be about our Die Hard season? Yeah, the third host? Amazing. Who are you calling the third host? Oh, sorry. Mr. Steer? I don't know if you go by his first name or last name. Vitt's my co-host on the summer special. Oh, Vitt's your co-host. That's what we call him?

That's what we call him? Okay, yeah, because I definitely listen to every episode. Vitt is doing great. He's fantastic. He is the man that puts the women in the seats. This is going to be a long one, isn't it? It's going to be a nightmare. All right, do we need more of an opening discussion, or should we just jump into the episode? Let's go for it, buddy. Let's get to Fraser. It's been too long. We open with the moon rising over Seattle. And we get a title card, 1.57pm Manchester time. Niles arrives in a bar to convince Daphne's dad to come to America and make up with his estranged wife, Gertrude. I am so over the title cards, especially for me, Fraser. When we opened with it, I was just like, fuck this. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the opening title card. I'm not a fan of that. I don't really care about the Fraser title cards. I don't love them or hate them. There's no way that's true. If we have more than three, you can't even read them after a while on the show. You start getting confused. We don't talk about them in the bonus episodes, that's why. There's only one in this episode, but it is the very first thing you see. Is it the only one? I was so annoyed by it. It set me up for the whole episode. If you would have told me there was three in this episode, I would have believed you. I had no idea there was only one. All right. Well, anyway, so we start out pot, don't we? We start out in... I thought we were in Marty's bar. I got really excited for a second. For the record, I think you are. I think it's just redressed. Oh. And they're like, this is actually a different country. And I was like, ah. No, I think they filmed it on location. Yeah, they flew to Manchester for a scene indoors. Because I'm so unfamiliar. I thought that we were in Ireland for a long time. I don't know when it was clear that it was his husband. Her husband. What? I was going to say his husband. What are you talking about? Well, actually, sorry. I've been doing voice notes. And for some reason, I wrote Gertie's husband. And it came out, Curtis's husband, Gertie. Again, this is a really technology-driven cast, the three of us. We got this. Should we talk about Mr. Moon? I'm ready to talk about Mr. Moon. So Mr. Moon, played by actor Brian Cox. He looks familiar. Is he familiar? Yes. Have you ever seen Succession? No. You're such fucking dopes. He's been in a lot of things. But more importantly, and I'm sure you guys look this up, because I'm not the only one who does my job. I'm not allowed to Google things for the upside down. Well, you can Google actors. Ask Curt. I do it all the time for Die Hard. It annoys him to no end. I don't do it for Frasier. Brian Cox, actually, he was nominated for an Emmy for this role. For this episode? Yeah. Yeah. Why? Well, you have to ask the Emmy panel. Interesting. Must have been a slow year for guest stars. Must have been a terrible year for guest stars. Can we talk about how Miles walks in and he's covering his mouth? Is that what he was trying to do with the napkin or whatever it was? My best guess is that it was supposed to be like a smoke-filled bar. Got it. But it wasn't smokey. That's why I took it. Whoa, what do you mean? It was definitely smokey. Was it really? You thought it was smokey? Yeah. It was very smokey. What are you talking about? The whole ambiance was just smoke. It was just, it was almost, it was like a comical amount of smoke. It didn't make... How did I not notice the smoke? Turn it on right now. You'll be like... It was like a fog machine was in there. You know better than to tell me to turn an episode of Frasier on during an episode of our record. Just true. It did feel like there was a fog machine. Ryan's right. There probably was a fog machine. I'm sure it wasn't actual smoke. Yeah. It was like a Halloween amount where you're just like, all right. Yeah. I get what you're going for, Ireland. But you know... Again, not Ireland. Listen, man. That's how the upside down works. I don't know. I didn't know what was going on. Literally, the very first thing they told you in writing was Manchester. Correct. I didn't read that part. Remember, I was annoyed. I saw red for that part. I didn't read it. Let's back up a second. Why would it ever be Ireland? I don't know, Brad. I didn't know what was happening. That's fair. Do they talk about Daphne's dad at all in the two seasons? Never once comes up again. Okay. I kind of assumed that Gert was a widower in seasons 10 and 11. I assume so. No, she would be a widow. She would just be a widow. Yep. Widow. Why do we see the Moon Boys at the end of Frasier? They come for Marty and what's-her-face's wedding? Nina Van Hoor. When I write my intros to these before I watch the episode, write those. So I thought, based on the title, Moons Over Seattle, I thought for sure this was going to be when we see all the brothers come in and get introduced. But that obviously was not this episode. That would have been great. Would have made tons of sense. But no. It would have made tons of sense for the Moon Boys to at least be at the bar. Or, you know, even refer to them. I guess they do make one tiny reference to them. Yeah. The dad is trying to kick Niles out. He doesn't want to talk to him. He doesn't want to hear about America or whatever. And to get the crowd back on his side, Niles announces, He never gave me a chance to buy a round of drinks! I think that was a wonderful little moment. Yeah. It was, again, I was finally settled and understood what was going on at that point. I thought the setup was really interesting for us because we know that this isn't going to work at all. So it's really weird that we take this scene to set up that he's coming to America to fix his marriage. And we're never going to hear about him again after this episode. There's a real wild introduction to this character. Even weirder, not to jump ahead, but this episode is going to end in a way that implies that it's not over, over. You know, it's funny you say that, Ryan, because I was going to ask you if you thought in this first scene that he, like, dies in this episode because we don't see him again. I didn't have that on my radar, although it does look like he kind of could just kill over. It would work. Like, if he's really done that. We also do know that the next thing that's going to happen after this episode is their wedding. So yeah, you have to assume he probably isn't going to die. It's a tough turnaround. Otherwise, for all the talk of like, oh, my mom is upset that she wasn't invited to the wedding in that episode. Never once is the dad even brought up. Yeah, that's why I thought maybe Ryan had thought he died. You would have had to do way too much explaining, be like, get through, I guess, a funeral, get time to grieve, and then also be like, OK, and we're going to get married. Or the intro to season 10 just came out of out of left field. They get married and they don't even talk about her father. So it's no different. Right. Yeah. But again, that would still be too much legwork. You got to do this episode. We only have 22 minutes. Yeah, I disagree. I disagree. Because if he had died at the end of this episode, you know, you can assume a funeral. You know, that's a that's a place where you get romantic. That's the place where you start thinking about a wedding. Oh, I see. This is one of those times where you two are aligned, but for very different reasons. Yes. So getting back to the scene, another moment that I really did enjoy. I mean, apparently he got nominated for Emmy for this. I feel like it was for any of the moments. It was when he just downs a beer while Niles is trying to convince him. And he does it so fast that Niles can't even get like a sentence done before he's like, get out of this bar. I'm done with you. You think that's why I'm nominated for an Emmy? Drink acting is hard, man. I mean, he probably just downed a beer. Well, Brian Cox is Scottish. We know the Scottish can drink. So this is why I thought he was Irish. That's basically same thing. Yeah. I'm doing this right on that one. That is the best reaction you've ever had on this podcast. He is Scottish. That's why I thought he was Irish. The other thing that I want to point out about the scene, there's a great line. I can't afford to travel across the Atlantic whenever I please. I would pay for the ticket, of course. I can't have you buying me a first class ticket to America. This ended up being a pretty fun runner throughout. Yeah. I thought it played well every time as well. Yeah. It's charming, right? Like he's a scamp. You give Niles a really good opportunity to like, he reacts to it through facial expression. And then quickly, like he's annoyed for a brief second. He's like, okay, yeah, I'm doing a thing. Sure. I think the one thing they did well is they made his personality very similar to the brother's personality when they were on season 11. Like it felt very much so like he was their father. Yeah. I mean, like he's a bit of a drifter. Yep. You can certainly see why the moon boys came from these two. Correct. Daphne still feels like a bit of an outlier. But you know, that's how Frasier treats her anyway, the show. That's true. She's just kind of there sometimes. That's how everyone treats her except sometimes Niles. You're right. At Cafe Nervosa, Roz fills out a comment card to provide feedback on Frasier's lovemaking skills. We're back. Do your thing. Sorry. We're back at Cafe Nervosa. Yeah. Sorry, Ryan. Now it's your time. So Roz makes mention of Roger and I'm like, at this point, I can't remember if we've met Roger, talked about Roger, if this is someone we've never heard of. I don't know. I feel like I've heard about him before. Maybe it's just Roz's name kind of is close to Roger. I don't know. I don't remember seeing a breakup episode or even a passing reference to Roger being over. So I feel like this is the last reference to Roger. And it's weird that it's how much she is into him. Curtis, you are correct. This is the last we will hear of Roger. I could have swore there was some Roger talk later, but oh well. No, I think there was a different character named Roger. That sounds suspicious. Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. I think there's another guy named Frasier too. He had a radio station. I don't know. There was a guy named Roger. He was dating Roz, but he definitely wasn't this Roger. For some reason, I know that. Maybe it was Die Hard because I listened to every episode. So maybe it was on the Die Hard. Roger McClane. Yeah. Well, that's the thing. Yeah, I could just be mixing up new Frasier and new Die Hard stuff. Who knows at this point? I'm scrambled. Yeah. I think one of my favorite lines that we've gotten in a long time is... Technically, it wasn't really sex because it was you, but whatever it was, it was great. Oh my God. I actually wrote that down too when you stole it from me. But yes, I thought it was classic. It was classic Roz. This scene had such a weird energy. It seemed like they were either going to punch each other in the face or have sex on the table. It seemed like both were in play multiple times this episode. At the same time. Yeah. Yeah. For as much as they were talking like, oh, we're so like brother or sister about it. And we're very platonic, but we did have sex that one time. There is sort of a flirtiness to their interactions for sure. I know at some point she details exactly when they have sex. In my head, I remember it sounded like it was going to be season eight, but maybe it's this season. It's definitely pretty close. It seems like it's fresh, right? It's definitely in this episode. It felt like it just happened. Yeah. And I'll be honest. I actually don't remember exactly when this happened. So I'm in the same with you guys about that because I don't remember exactly what season it happened. I think it's going to be something that happens late season eight. But again, if we see it this season, it won't shock me. It could be next episode. Well, you have to imagine this Roger person. She was with her. I mean, who knows with Frasier? So we'll see. But it's Roz though. Like Roger, Roger could be like a two and done. And that's a long-term relationship for Roz. Did you like when she's talking about Frasier and he's just like, I think you made your opinion clear when you screamed outstanding. What a fun reaction to sex. Is that unusual? For us that didn't grow up with Frasier. Yeah. I was young when I watched this episode. So I were very impressionable. I just assume that's what you're supposed to do. Yeah. All three times I've ever done it. I've screamed that. Is that a mistake? It depends. Did you see the people afterwards? Are there supposed to be people involved? Oh, never mind. Then you did fine, buddy. You did fine. I do appreciate when the writers like make jokes based on the characters. Like that I've said in joke all obviously would only work for Frasier. And I'm so glad that they were like smart enough to actually make that joke. I want you to specify a joke that you think wasn't written for one of the characters. Oh, when it happens, I'll let you know. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Always got your back. Frasier and Niles have been showing Daphne's dad around Seattle until Daphne and Gert fly back. Marty pretends to be into Gert to get the dad jealous. Curt, Curt, Curt, Curt, Curt. Yes, Ryan? We got a powder room alert. Let me just pop into the powder room real fast. Now. Okay. All right. I appreciate that you're excited, but I do have to correct you because it's very clearly in this episode, a loo alert. Let's try it. Curt, we got a loo alert. Sounds like I'm saying a name. It does. Let me try into my British accent and see if it works better. Okay. All right. I got the loo alert. That was actually one of your better British impressions. Thank you. Thank you. It was very off, but it was one of your better ones. Should I try into my fire stuff voice? You don't need to. Let me do my Irish impression. Oi, Curt. We've got a loo alert. Where's your loo? That works really well. Holy shit. Am I the only one who was impressed by that? It sounded all shitting to me. Well, I'm not saying the accent was great. I'm saying that the way that attempted an accent made the loo alert sound like a thing instead of a weird attempt at getting the attention of some guy named Lou. So my joke was I was going to try to do a British accent and then it fell off the rails and it went better than I expected, actually. So Marty shows up and he tells the story of this Seymour Butts joke. I finally busted that guy who was writing Seymour Butts on the sign out sheets. So who was it? Senior Vice President Butts. I'm on probation for a week. I got weirdly confused. I thought somehow that like senior, like it was senior Butts. I got really confused. And then I realized, oh, no, he's just saying the senior vice president is named Seymour Butts. You thought there was a senior. You thought there was a Mexican man named Mr. Butts. Well, I didn't think his name was senior. I said I thought he was saying senior Butts was like what he was writing down. So you're really bananas. Yeah. Didn't make a lot of sense. No, no, it wouldn't have. We get a in this at the start of this. We get a quick bit with Frasier Niles talking about Niles having kids. So that was interesting for something that won't really come up till the end of season 10. Well, he just asked him if he wouldn't kids, right? Yeah, but it was a weird time. I think it was because he was with his father-in-law. I think that's why. Yeah, but his father-in-law was in the loo at the time. Well, in fairness, I do not think this was in any way any kind of foreshadowing. I don't think they were saying let's set up that Niles is thinking about having kids. I think it was just a knock on the Moon family and the idea of propagating it. Oh, is that what you got out of that? Yeah. That's interesting. Yeah. That's what the joke was. Yeah. That's why he said it when he was in the bathroom. I thought that's what you were saying, Ryan. I think I missed it then. I just thought that they were bringing it up to bring it up. You thought that in the middle of all the zaniness, they were just, Frasier's just like, oh, by the way, let's have a real quick, like, 20-second heart-to-heart about your future. That is 100% what I thought. I was so excited about the powder room. I don't think I heard some stuff for a little bit. The dad sees Frasier's dad, and he's dressed like a security guard, so he thinks he's a cop. There's this whole bit about how he stole a snow globe from a tourist center, which they're just setting up what a sleaze this guy is, but I'm trying to figure out, why did he want the snow globe? Like, why does this old man who just likes to drink, why would he want a snow globe? Even to steal it? Oh, I took it as he would sell it to somebody else, or he would trade it for a beer. What are you going to get for a snow globe? How much could you possibly make? I'm sorry, man. What was that? He's going to trade the snow globe for a beer? I just went past that. Where is that going to happen? You could get two beers for a snow globe, okay? On the open market. I'm telling you. Especially in Seattle. When you say the open market, what do you mean? Any bar in Seattle. I'm telling you, go into any bar in Seattle with a snow globe, you get two beers. So the bartender? 100%. It's a known fact. Well, I can't refute it. I've certainly never tried it. Curt, we're going to Seattle. Finally. Marty is so useless when he's trying to drum up interest from Mr. Moon. She's got hair, skin, etc. And she's a good little drinker. You know what, Ryan? I appreciate what you're saying. You're right. He's not doing a great job of teeing up this thing Niles wants him to do. But to be fair, you've been on the other end of quickly being told you have to do an improv. You're not so hot at it either. Whoa, you take that back. I do fine. The rest of your nightmares. I did like that Mr. Moon just assumed that Marty was blind when they were talking about Gertrude. I think that was one of my favorite bits of the whole episode is that reaction. Yes, and they come back to it too, but I do love that. Back from Hawaii, Daphne and Gert are surprised to see Harry, but it instantly ends in a fight. Daphne is mad that Niles went behind her back. I know this is weird. I feel like you should change that to Mr. Moon because we don't call him Harry at all. I don't. I didn't even clock that was his name. Yeah. In all my notes, I just kept calling him the dad. And eventually I just decided I needed to look up if he had a name. I just call him he. We should have just called him Mr. Moon. But it's funnier that we've called him 75 different ages. It's fine. Does Harry, does he call him Daphne Stilts? Is that his name? Yes. Hello, Stilts! I heard that too. Yeah, that's a great, that's such a great nickname because it's not like a thing that we ever hear again. It's just a weird thing she has with her dad. This is the last time she's ever called Stilts. Yeah, and I don't feel like she's that tall. She's slightly taller than him, but like also it seems like the years have been tough on him. Like I'm guessing he was taller than her at one point. He like walks like a hunchback, right? He wasn't like standing up straight. Yeah. Yeah, he's one trip from the chiropractor away from being taller than her again. But yeah, call her Stilts. I don't know. And so casually. Because we know she has a bunch of brothers and we've never heard about a sister. I think this is weird. I think I just assumed she wore high heels at some point and he started calling her Stilts for that reason. Interesting. Yeah, that seems like a stretch because you would call every lady you've ever met Stilts. Yeah, I wouldn't put it past Harry Moon. Mr. Moon. That's true. Sorry, Senior Moon. Senior. Thank you. So they have the fight. You know, the mom freaks out at the dad. And I really like that she says, Leave me the hell alone. Thank you, Niles. That was a nice surprise. You're right. She has mellowed. I think that's a great little bit. Like they're being very sincere in that moment. But it's like you would expect they have the opposite opinion. I thought this was a pretty strong Gert episode. Totally. I thought she was pretty good in her scenes, including this one. She wasn't. You're right. She wasn't over the top. She wasn't doing anything crazy. You get the sense that she is a lot. You get why Harry would want to run away from her. But it's not so much that she's annoying to us, the audience. We can still kind of enjoy the ride with her. Sometimes she goes over that edge and is just annoying to be around. She's a cartoon almost sometimes. They just like they they use her in just a comedic sense. Not as a human. I feel like sometimes. Yeah. Her reactions felt justified for the most. And genuine. Not like just a put down like in other episodes. Yeah. I just want to talk about Daphne. Because I feel like at the end of the scene, she gets a moment where she is kind of mad at Niles. And I think she makes a very reasonable point. When they fight, they need time apart to miss each other. And you would have known that had you consulted me first. This is kind of a big deal. Maybe ask. This is a bananas reveal. Yeah. It's like, yeah, that's a huge overstep, Niles. I know it is a sitcom, but she gets over it so quickly, though. Like within a minute of this, she's over it. But there's a very reasonable chance that this is the actual reason that the moon, that Harry, senior Harry, Moon, and Gertrude are done. It's because of this move Niles pulls off there. Yeah. Yeah. I get what the episode's trying to do. And we're going to get at the end of the episode where it takes Daphne. And I appreciate that his intentions were good. But I don't like that they sort of gloss past the point that he does this. Because the rest of the season, the rest of the series, he kind of keeps doing this thing to her. This is his move. We establish this. Niles is not a good guy. Niles and Daphne make up, even though Niles did the exact same bullshit again. Fraser and Roz bicker some more about the quality control on his sex. We get Niles being like, I will listen to you now. Because we are a team now. And like, he's like, kind of, you can hear in his head that he's like, not sure if that's correct. And she's like, yeah, we're a team. What's wrong with you? He's like, yeah. So I will. He tries to make a decision without her. And he's like, unless you don't want me to. So him going behind her back again to keep the dad around. It was immediate. It was immediate. But I could see that being sort of forgiven as, look, I'm not going to push on the family thing, but it is your dad. You don't get to see him a lot. He is here. You can still have a day with your father. But instead of taking that route, he immediately goes to, you know, that thing you said we shouldn't do and that you're mad at me for trying to do. I'm going to pressure you into doing it right now. I did. I'm going to do a way crazier version of it. Yeah. Not great. But then she's won over. It's like, oh, OK, you're with a crazy person and you're an idiot. Great. Weird that this isn't going to work out. I was thrown off because I thought they were living together. So when they meet up the next day at a coffee shop to discuss this very personal thing, I was like, why did this conversation happen so much later, so far away from where they were? There's something that clarifies that actually in a scene in this episode, actually, but I won't get to it yet. OK, great. So we also get the subplot. I think the conclusion to the subplot with Frasier and Roz. No, not the conclusion. Yeah. No, no. Wait. Before that is the interaction between Niles and Frasier when Niles is trying to get the reservation at the restaurant. Oh, yes. And Frasier says that flattery will work and then flattery works. Yeah. It's interesting. You know, this whole scene was about Niles trying to be a better person for Daphne and failing fully. And then he's also talking about Frasier. And I would never try to manipulate you, Frasier, as he's actively manipulating him. But it works. I got to give him credit. You can see why he does it. Yeah. He gets what he wants. No one's as humble as you, Frasier. I'll see what I can do. So we do get the conclusion to the Roz-Frasier storyline here. We get a great line. The overall score you gave me out of a possible five cups of coffee was a four. Now, I'm going to put ego aside. This is strictly about self-improvement. My commitment to sex-cellence, if you will. You just lost a cup. No, please, Ron. Yes. I really enjoyed Frasier harping on these notes. Yeah. There's no way he slept the night before. He was up all night thinking about it. And there was a weird tenseness with this part where you can just see them staring at each other doing some, both of them having kind of creepy smiles. I like this. I wish we got more of this this episode. I think we got the perfect amount of it. And I think if they would have done one more scene, I think it would have been overkill. I think that this was perfect. They kind of ended here. That's what I feel about the rest of the episode. The plot doesn't have a lot of legs. Like, I don't know where else they would have gone with it if they stretched it out. Frasier's not really in the rest of the episode that much. Like, it's really, it's a Niles episode. He's allowed to be in more of the episode. You know, that is interesting, though, because... This is the season finale of Frasier? Yeah. I was going to say, like... I think it's fairly normal to be like, oh, this is a Frasier-like episode. They've got a whole cast to follow. You're right. When you're looking at the lens of the season finale, yes. Frasier has got two scenes, and they're basically just because they had to come up with something. To have the main character be in the B-plot is probably a little weird. Not just the B-plot. A very light B-plot. This is one of the deepest B-plots we've seen, for sure. And in all honesty, it might actually be the C-plot. The B-plot might really actually be Niles and Daphne's conversation versus the parents. Yeah. You can tell me that way. Sure. Yeah. I really enjoy the detail she gives about the letterman she was listening to while they were having sex. Oh, my God. That was also very funny. And Frasier, I thought, was going to explode. I actually thought his reaction was kind of tame for him. Yes, but then we do get later where he's telling Marty how he has to fix his TV. You also, Brad, have to understand that, yes, he's restraining himself, but he's trying to get those cups, man. He's trying to get those cups. That is true. You can see on his face he was working very hard to get those extra cups. And I liked it. At a fancy dinner, Gert and Harry seem to make up. But when Niles returns to the table with a bottle of champagne, another violent fight has broken out. Before he leaves, it was like a volcano about to explode because things were going way too calm. So you knew something was going to happen. When he gets up to leave, he's like, you shouldn't do that. I don't know why, but you shouldn't do that. Yeah. See, my only reaction to him getting up and leaving is he's going to the car to get a bottle of champagne. Does Chez Henry seem to you like the kind of restaurant that's BYOB? I was shocked about that. I'd never heard a restaurant with that quality, that you can just bring in like a $100, $200 bottle of champagne. It's a French restaurant. Let's say that whatever reason, they're allowed to do it. They're like, why wouldn't he just bring it in with him? Why does he leave it in the car as a surprise for later? So they can reset the scene with the fight having happened. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, there's no kayfabe reason for that, right? Is it just so that we can show off the world's most awkward skit thing that Niles is doing? Oh my God. I was like, why was that necessary to show him like prancing? He was doing like a singing in the rain impression or something real awkward. Look, I like every time that they do go outside because it happens so rarely in Frasier. So I did like that. I mean, I'm sure it wasn't actually outside. I'm sure it was a sound studio, but the illusion of outside does not happen much in Frasier. He has a part shockingly close to the restaurant. Shockingly. Yes. Yeah. It wasn't the first car, but it was the second car. Yeah. I didn't even really notice the Dancy's doing because I was so distracted by the dog humping his leg. That was after. Yeah, that was after. It was him walking out of the restaurant. I went white. I forgot everything. Forgot the name of the dad. I forgot everything. He was moving so crazy that this dog was like, oh yeah, I'd hump that. Anything from when we get back in the restaurant? I thought they should have given us more information than them just like post fight. Oh, I actually, no, I disagree. I really loved that. The reveal that just things have gone so haywire. I think the tables moved. The two are going at Daphne's trying to hold back. I think Gertrude. I don't remember who. It's great. That was the exact way to do that. There's no way the fight would have been more entertaining than that reveal. I did like when Mr. Moon. Senior Harry Moon. Senior Harry Moon. Sorry. Tells her that she's Marty's problem now. Yeah. She really liked hearing that. This is like the one thread from this episode that really seems to have been carried forward by the show because the whole she thinks Marty's into her and she's into Marty thing is like her whole storyline in season 10. It really all starts in this scene. You're right though. Nothing else lasts other than the dad leave. Marty is on the phone trying to ward off Gert while Fraser is on the phone trying to win back Cheyenne Rhee. Harry tells Daphne how much Niles pushed him just to make her happy. I enjoyed how much Marty was struggling to talk to Gertrude on the phone. That was enjoyable for me. You like seeing him tortured a little? I like seeing him suffer. He deserves it. He knows what he did. By the way, in this scene when Mr. Senior Frog Moon, when he comes in, they say that Daphne's in her room. That's how I knew she still lived there. Yeah, because there was a bit of that. They talk about her room in season 10 though, too. They do. I think they have a whole episode about her moving out. Yeah, they do. Yeah. So I have one last sort of gripe about this episode, which is that this whole storyline is all about Daphne's family, but we get almost exclusively Niles's point of view, which just seems like par for the course for this show, but really backwards. Like it should have been like a Daphne, a more Daphne focused from Daphne's perspective. You'd want to get even further away from Frasier. That's right. We get the fun of seeing him sort of squirm because he realizes he's upset her, but I feel like it might be even more fun if we just see like what you did what? Like we find out the crazy things he's done through Daphne. Yeah, it wouldn't be fun to follow Daphne around this episode. She'd be miserable most of the time. Like it would be a buzzkill every time we check in with her. Well, the first half of the episode, we'd be in Hawaii. That'd be fun. That would be, you know what? That part we should have started with. This is the scene that we find out that Gertrude is staying, like permanently staying. So they said that in the scene. Oh, I didn't even catch that. Yeah. What did those, how'd they say it? How's your mom? Apparently there's nothing left for her in England. So she's thinking about putting down roots here. So yeah, she does say she's not going back to quote unquote Manchester. Definitely not Ireland. That doesn't mean she's staying in the, in Niles' apartment. Well, I think it does. We find out it does. Is she staying, wait, is she staying in Niles' apartment right now or is she staying in Fraser's apartment? We don't know. Yeah, we don't know. That is a good point. All we know is that Daphne brought her mom to Niles' apartment. Now that might just because that's where they're meeting up for the night, but it is. Yeah, I don't think that means anything. Daphne was there. I mean, they don't say it, but I got to imagine Niles' apartment has multiple bedrooms. Yeah. I'm sorry. Did you say Niles? You did say Niles. You said a very New Orleans-like. Nah, homie, where you been? You like to see homies naked? I'm working on my accents, guys. Goddamn, boy. Anyway. Yeah, Niles' apartment probably does have multiple bedrooms. Senior Niles' apartment. You've sent pictures of Fraser's apartment. Technically, I don't know that there's not extra bedrooms. I love that we can say honestly that I've sent pictures of Fraser's apartment to you. Not a joke. Not a weird bit. Like, that's a thing that I've done. Yeah. I was a little surprised, but it was nice to see Senior Frog's moon. I think you're finally just Senior Frog's. We know who you're talking about. Yeah. When Senior Frog's was telling Niles, like, pot nice things. Or to Daphne nice things about Niles. I mean, the guy had just been put up in a sweet hotel after getting flown to America first class. Like, yeah, you'd be in a decent mood. I will say, it does undercut things a little, because it is a touching moment. It is meant to be like, see how great this man is for you. But he's also a grifter. So there's a part that's just like, he thinks he can get something if his daughter's suddenly loaded. Oh, I didn't take, I just took it as like, yeah, he's got money. I didn't take any of the actual nice stuff he was saying about him. I didn't think it was grifty. I think he's just like, yeah, I want you with someone who has money. No, I agree that I don't think the episode's trying to make it that, and I don't think the scene plays like that. But I do have in the back of my head the whole time, like, this guy is a grifter. I didn't think it was a sweet moment either, though. That's not how I took it either. I just like, yeah, yeah, she's found some of the money. Good for you. He threw in some extra stuff because blah, blah, blah, love. But yeah, he's happy that she's financially sound. Okay. Daphne tells Niles she wants to marry him now. No more waiting. Well, we know that happens. It worked. They really did it. Daphne's got some terrible dreams. She's like, my dream's to marry you right now. Like, that's not a dream, Daphne. Let's interrogate the upside down a little bit. Did you see this coming? Did you expect this is where it was going? I knew she would live up to getting married from this moment. What? Sorry, what was your question? He's asking you if you thought that it would happen the way it happened. No, that's not what I'm asking. No, I didn't think we'd meet senior Harry Moon. What I'm asking is, did you think going into this episode or as it was playing out that this was all heading towards a we need to go get married right now? Or did you think the episode ends on a different note and the season just randomly starts with them getting married? That would have been more bananas than it was for me to watch if it just if it just started with them saying I do, basically. I thought 100% we were leading into the marriage, which, again, is why I didn't think senior Harry Moon was going to die for the exact reason of we know how the next season starts. It would be weird if it wasn't an abrupt feeling Daphne got to end the show. Yeah. But good news is it did not live up to my expectations. Frasier plays us out with another series of black and white headshots. Yeah, let me just take this one. We got like a title card bit for this, which I don't think we've gotten in the past, or at least I've missed it if it has happened the last two times. You didn't notice Manchester. I'm just saying. They said thanks. Thanks for calling and then showed the faces. So I'm guessing these are the people that call into the radio show. Whoa, he did it. Brad, get excited. But it still doesn't make sense because Hillary Duff definitely didn't call in season 11. Yes, she did. I brought it up when it happened, Ryan. I don't think you did. Yes, I did. And you didn't believe me. Show me the tape. Last but not least, this one was designed for Ryan. Brittany is played by Hillary Duff. Oh, wow. Hill Duff. We see her later. This is her second appearance. That's great. Good for you, Hill Duff. He's as sure of it as he's sure this episode was set entirely in Ireland. I'm certain the episode was mostly in Ireland. Ryan, you kept calling her Lizzie McGuire the whole time I talked about her. That does sound right. But I assume this is when we're talking about the credits scene. No, it's because we recorded that two years ago now. I mean, that part's true. Huh. So anyway, yes. I guess we're going to hear from Allison Janney later. That's something. Lizzie McGuire did call in. Yes. All right. Some way to end a season, but here we are. Well, Brad, did you think this was a good episode? You have to look in the context that it's a season finale. Did it feel like a season finale? Absolutely not. Do you think a season finale would have the main character a little more? You would. Is Brad ready to give his grade? He is. He is not. Right. Going to this version of Frasier, I do an A, B, C, D, E ranking, and I'm going to give this episode a solid B minus. You do letter grades. You don't do E. You would give it an F, right? You wouldn't give it an E. We've had this conversation. My school did it do Fs. We did E's instead of Fs. I know. It's okay. That's a different conversation for a different day. Was it an E for extremely annoying? Whatever. My school got in trouble because kids were saying Fs are fucks. It was a whole thing. That's not even a joke. I wish it was. Not a good joke. But I gave it a B minus because I thought that there were some good bits. There were some funny things, but none of it felt like a season finale. So you gave it a B minus in the context of a season finale? In the context of a season finale. Yeah. I don't know why I said it weird like that, but yes. And so I can't not look at it as a season finale because it is a season finale. Giving you an E for your breakdown. Thank you. Thank you. I just get so emotional talking about Frasier. Curtis, what did you think of the score of this game show, of this TV show? I'm a little rusty. You got to go back to public school, my man. I'm a little rusty. All right. I think that my rating is honestly going to be skewed because I really like this episode. I think we spent too much time away from Frasier. We've been doing Die Hard. We did like a lot of modern Frasier. And this just felt like a breath of fresh air to me. I do not like calling it modern Frasier. That feels really weird to me. I love being back with this old crew. I gave this a 19 out of 59. Wow. Yeah. For context? Well, this was worse than the one where Niles is afraid of living a life after surgery. But it is better than modern Frasier's Founder Society episode. Oh, wow. Curtis, just remind me. You don't rank the episodes you've seen that I haven't yet, right? No, no, no. Okay, good. I thought so. Those will not be ranked until we watch them backwards. Yeah. I just want to double check. Okay. Sorry about you there. Ryan, what did you think? Are you eating ice while you asked me that? I took a big swig of ice. And then I remembered I had a job to do. Can you finish the ice before you do that? I can do it. I can do it. Ryan, tell us what you think of this episode. I think you guys have lost your minds. That's what we meant. Tell us what you think of this episode of the podcast. No, no, no. I'm talking about the Frasier episode. I thought this episode was, especially in the context of a season finale, but even as a standalone, I thought this was not a good episode. I gave it a B minus. That's not a good score. No one wants a B minus. That's like very high for where I'm at. I got it. It's one of my lowest grades I've given to old Frasier. And that's what I think even without contextualizing the fact that it's a season finale. I'm so glad we watched it in reverse because getting that first episode of season 10 last great way to end a season. And this is a shit way to start the season, which means it's a shit way to end a season. Horrible. I put four, eight. I think it's actually lower than that. After we've talked about, I think it's like a four, four. This is horrible. I can't believe you guys are anywhere near. And that's out of 10. Just to remind everyone, because it's been so long. I can't believe we're giving it a B minus. I've given it an E for sure. But here's the thing, Ryan. I've lost my tolerance. I'm saying I would rather watch a lot of the new Frasier than this episode. This was terrible. I feel great about my score because I think you both are totally wrong. So I'm feeling perfect about my score. I love when we disagree. Curt's lost his damn mind. I can understand why you might say B minus. He gave a B minus. I think my score equates to a B minus. It's in the like 20 out of 60 is like not that high. Well, I guess we'll see when we get through the whole score. Yeah, that could be a C by the end of the show, Curtis. But you balked at it when he said B minus. You're like, oh, I'm way higher because I'm so excited for this brush of breath there. Bro, breath of breath there. I'm so scrambled. I thought this episode was fucking terrible. Curtis, in all honesty, to Ryan's point, when you started hyping it up, I literally thought you got to say like four or five. Like I thought you were going to go crazy high. And then, yeah, then you put it in line with a modern Frasier episode. I know, I know. You hyped up your response a little too high. But the thing is, I was trying to be sensible when I was looking through the list and deciding where it ranked. But I don't think you did that. I don't think you did anywhere near that. I think you've lost your mind. But I don't know. I could tell it was still too high. Like I could tell like instinctually. I think this is the bottom five episode we've watched. That includes a lot of new Frasier too. I think objectively you're probably right. I don't think I was reacting rationally to like, oh, the bits are really funny or they're not funny. Like I think I was just enjoying being with these people that I haven't been around in a while. He was being nostalgic. I can't believe Senior Harry Moon got an Emmy for this. He was the bright spot of the episode. Nomination. It's not going crazy. Yeah, you got a nomination. I don't know why anyone would get a nomination for this. It was terrible. 2002, I mean. Yeah, yeah. That was a bad time for TV. This fit right in. Oh, Curtis did not say this during his intro, but it's important to know 2002 is still my bar mitzvah year. Okay, for the record, my bar mitzvah didn't go away. I would rather have watched Brad's bar mitzvah than this as a season finale. That is being harsh. We had pretty good food. It's really close. It's really close. Now for a segment. Brad's bar mitzvah. Daphne's parents are fighting in this episode. But what were they fighting about? We can only speculate, but speculate we will. In a new game we're calling Speculation. Well, thank you, Curtis. We're also really going to speculate on what happened during the fight, not just the fight. I want to clarify that, but it's okay. We're also, real quick, we're going to speculate on the name of the game. Yeah, I'm trying to come up with something fast. I like speculation. I just think it can't be the only word, right? Oh, well, how about... Speculation investigation. Oh, okay. I like that. What were you going to say, Brad? It's going to be worse. Let's hear it. Yeah, Manchester speculation debate. Really bad. You know, I like long titles. Did you design that to be boring? That wasn't even your normal, like, do a thing with a colon bit. Like, it was just bad. If you found a mysterious VHS in your attic that you didn't know it was from, and that was the title, you would just throw it away. You had a VCR. You could have just seen, what's on this? You wouldn't have looked. You would have popped it in. Look. Well, okay. Brad, why don't you explain how we're going to play this game? Thank you. How we're going to play the Speculation Investigation? Is that what we're calling it? Boom, boom, boom. Speculation Investigation! Zoom! I'm picturing Niles' weird dance while you sing. What are you saying, though? I imagine you'll play the Law and Order theme for this. Boom, boom, boom. Yeah, I think so. And then we'll just say Dick Wolf at the end. So this is how we're going to start, and we'll see if our host of the show understands and agrees. He's not going to. He's not going to. He's one at a time. I think I'll probably start, since this was my genius idea. We're going to explain to you, the audience, what happened in the scene that we missed. Are we explaining it, or are we acting it out? We're not acting it out, are we? We're going to explain it. We're going to tell the story, as storytellers. Ryan, you can do sound effects during it. That would be fun. It would be doom. Yeah. What was that a sound of? That was the start of Law and Order. Yeah. Have you ever seen that show? Thankfully, not too much. We're going to tell you what the fight was about, and how it went down from when Niles left to when he comes back. Are we ready? No. Oh, that's, I'm so, oh my God. Now you understand? I do. Well, I thought when you said the fight, you meant the fight that led them to separate in the first place, not the fight. Oh my God, Curtis. Oh my God. I did think that's what you meant originally, to be fair. It makes more sense to talk about the scene that's missing from this episode and not whatever that was. Okay. Are we ready now? Are we ready? Oh, definitely not. Let's do it. Okay. So Niles leaves. And then what happens is Mr. Moon. You have four sentences. You get four sentences. Hold on. Four sentences and you're supposed to make the story interesting. Use your intonation. And Mr. Moon tells Gertrude that she looks really good tonight. And Gertrude does not respond in a positive way because, Curtis? That was two sentences. Am I allowed to go? I don't know what to do. Because Gertrude is the third sentence. You got two more, Brad. Paint more picture. I'm pretty sure I did four sentences, but okay. Sorry. What if I wasn't listening? Because Gertrude thought he was talking to another woman. And then when Gertrude realized what he was saying, oh, God, this is terrible. This is not working at all. Maybe somebody else should start it. No, no, no. No. Okay. I'm good. I'm good now. Okay. Where was I? Nowhere. You were nowhere. Nobody knows. I got it. I'm good now. You keep saying that. Because I'm good now. Mr. Moon tells Gertrude she's good looking. Gertrude thinks he's talking to somebody else. And so she gets so mad. She takes water. She spills it on Mr. Moon. And then, that was definitely four sentences, Curtis. And then he grabs a napkin. He uses it to towel himself off. This enrages her. She finds a candle. Ryan? She finds a candle and holds it up to her face and looks very ominous for a second. She goes, that is the last time you dry yourself off. And she lights the table on fire. Whoa. Daphne is screaming. Mom, mom, please stop. Please stop. Mom, please pass to Curtis. And, and, and. Mom was a sentence. Mom was a sentence. And please stop was a sentence. Got it, Curtis. So Daphne's begging. But her mom, you know, puts out the fire because she's not a maniac. But when she does. Have I reached for sentences? When she does, she gets water on Daphne this time, which enrages Daphne, right? She goes, mom. And she shoves her mom back, but not hard enough to knock her to the ground. She says, don't you water me like when I was a child. I hated being disciplined that way. And her dad's like, yeah, she hated that. I was always saying that when I wasn't hammered. Brad. And at this point, the whole restaurant is standing up watching what is going on. As Mr. Moon is screaming his head off, Daphne is essentially crying. And Gertrude is still just throwing water at random people. Senior Frog's Hairy Moon says to Daphne, love, get me a pitcher. So Daphne hands a pitcher of water to her father. And this time, he dumps it on himself. Ryan, I think you could end it at this point. You could finish your four lines and have Niles come in. It's the only way I can guarantee your mom won't light me on fire tonight. And then Daphne says, no, dad, no, she won't light you on fire. And she's like, yes, she will, love. She's a terrible person. And Gertrude's like, no, I'm a good person. And he's like, no, you're not. Blah, blah, blah, divorce. And then Niles walked in mercifully. I hope you understand what happened now in that scene. Thank you to the three of us for being amazing and telling the whole audience what really happened. Huge regret going with that. If anything, it will just be, you know, three minutes of Ryan laughing uncontrollably. Yeah, this was a chain rack. I can't tell. It was funny to experience. I don't know if it will be in any way funny to listen to. It was a lot of fun to do. None of my ideas ever pan out. But they're sure entertaining to do. This, I think, might have been your worst. I'm pretty sure you said that at least three other times. I think this one was a little bit Curt's fault, if we're going to be fair, though. Okay, I agree. But only because I thought, sure, this sounds like doable. We can do this. As soon as it was my turn, I was like, oh, I really am genuinely bad at improv. Like, I cannot think on my feet. I have nothing. Should we try it again? I would absolutely. I think we should try again. I wonder if, like, you've got four sentences, but you have to say the word banana or something like that. Why do you want to make this harder? I don't think we should make it harder. That I don't think we should do. Is that your idea? Yeah, that is a terrible idea. It's like, I can't improv, but let's throw bananas. To me, it seems easier because if I know I have to get to banana, like, that's going to direct me in a direction. What do you mean you can get to banana? What does that mean? What are you saying now that we should stop him? We should say banana. I thought he was saying he would say banana. No, no, no. That's not what he's saying. He's going to get to the word banana for some reason. I was saying, like, when I pass it off to Ryan, I'll say the word you have to include is basketball. And then Ryan would have to come up with a story that somehow moved with the word basketball. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. You lost your goddamn mind. You not only want a target, but a floating target that the person who's telling the story will come up with. Yeah, absolutely not, Curtis. What are you trying to do here? You've lost it. Well, Ryan, why don't you tell us what to expect next week when we cover the previous episode. It's season nine, episode 23, The Guilt Trippers. Niles decides to go to England. Well, presumably. I think that's probably going to be a part of it, yeah. I wrote England, though, so I figured it out at some point. You know, what do you think happens with Hawaii? I didn't guess about that. I did say, because I figured you'd have questions. I said, I think it's after Daphne watches The Parrot Trap. That's when Niles decides he's going to go to England. And I guess she goes to Hawaii? I don't know how that's going to work. I don't know if we'll see any of the Hawaii stuff, but I assume from the sounds of it, Niles sent the two of them off to Hawaii as a distraction so he could go to England. After they watched The Parrot Trap. The Lindsay Lohan one, I think. Yeah, the time works out. Lindsay Lohan one came out in 1998. This is 2002. You're good. Don't ask me why I know that. I prefer to be ignorant of why you know that. Well, that will do it for us. Thanks to Gavin McLeod for our theme music, and thank you for listening. I suppose you don't really care if this podcast is successful. You would never take five minutes out of your precious day to go to Apple Podcasts and leave us a review. Lord knows you can't be bothered to shoot us an email at reversepsychpod at gmail.com. For myself, for Ryan, and for Brad, goodbye. Goodbye. We're getting some echo, Brad. Oh, really? I don't hear echo. Really? I didn't hear. Yeah, because it's on your end, Brad. And Curt, you were talking. I did cough at one point. No, no. I heard Curt say Brad, or whatever the hell he said in his intro. All right. Let me... Do you want me to do it again? I think that'd be great. Okay. Turn your phone off. Sorry. Jesus Christ. All right. We're good. You're such a nightmare.

Speculation Investigation
Brad leads a shared invented account of the fight that happens while Niles is away. Ryan proposes the adopted title, Speculation Investigation, and introduces the four-sentence rule. The hosts tell the story rather than act it out, with emphasis on intonation. The opening is restarted, then six contributions form one continuous story. This is collaborative comedy, with no competitive score or winner.

After the story ends
The hosts reflect on whether the story was fun to perform and whether it will be funny to hear. A proposed retry is not enacted. Curtis describes a possible rule requiring the next speaker to use a supplied word, such as basketball; that proposal is rejected. These are follow-up discussions, not extra rounds.

Trying a loo alert ↗
Ryan calls a powder room alert, then gives the first “Curt, we got a loo alert” retry. Brad performs the British-accent attempt. Ryan performs the Irish-impression lines “Oi, Curt,” “We’ve got a loo alert” and “Where’s your loo?” The group discusses whether the phrase sounds like a warning or an attempt to address someone named Lou. No score or winner is assigned.
