Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Fraser Rewatch podcast, where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we are covering Season 9, Episode 1, Don Juan in Hell, Part 1, which originally aired on September 25th, 2001. Is this when we meet Perfect Claire? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curtis Sheck. Joining me, as always, it's our resident upside downer, it's Ryan Sansone. Curtis, I am so excited to get the fuck out of this season. Ah, I am so done with Season 9. Also with us is our big-ass Cornishon, it's Bradley and Margaret Bam! You know, you're not the first guy to call me a pickle today. Yeah, what'd you call him? You should come in more offended with that. What'd you call me? I think he just called me a big pickle, which I'm pretty sure is a compliment. You hitting on Brad? Yeah. I do think Big Pickle would be a great nickname for you. Yeah, you just called him the pickle big. I appreciate that, man. To be clear, I did not say that you have a big pickle. I called you a big pickle. I think calling someone Big Pickle, you're saying like, hey, you got a big pickle. No, if anything, I'm calling him a big dick. I'm calling him a dick. Yeah, I have a big dick. That's what I'm hearing. I'm not hearing a dick. I'm hearing what you're hearing, Brad. Also, like, I feel like Big Pickle really does have a nice ring to it, though, doesn't it? Do enjoy how bad Curtis is at making fun of me. Yeah, you are bad at him. So many of his intros, he thinks are going to be really good digs at me, and you and I just turn them so quickly. I mean, Big Pickle's a winner. Yeah. Well, okay. I'd call you Big Pickle, but you haven't earned it, Curt. Yeah, I earned my pickling. What are those tiny little pickles called? Gherkins? If anything, I'm a gherkin, if we're being honest. Yeah. Or what's the other one? Bread and butter. That's you. Well, speaking of food,
The games, the premises, and what everyone brought to the table.
Game / activity
Curtis leads six rounds in which Brad, Ryan and Curtis propose improvements to foods from the episode. Each round selects a dish; that dish then challenges the running favorite. Fried pickle displaces chocolate-chip scone and survives until the final comparison, where Ryan selects Curtis’s hog in a sleeping bag. Curtis is the overall winner. No numerical points are supplied. The recording confirms the proposal and ballot voices described below.
RESULT STATUS
Source-reviewed whole-game verdict; local round wins and intermediate totals are not treated as another final result.
Winner: Curtis
Within the recorded rounds · 1 recorded contribution
Brad suggests cocoa powder; Ryan adds chocolate chips; Curtis replaces the scone with a blueberry muffin. The group selects chocolate-chip scones, with Brad’s vote explicitly identified. The recording confirms Ryan’s winning proposal.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Curtis proposes pickled daikon, Brad’s contender is a fried pickle, and Ryan proposes injecting a Bloody Mary into a large pickle. Brad explicitly votes for Ryan’s proposal, but fried pickle wins the round. It then defeats chocolate-chip scone. Brad supplies the deciding vote in the fried-pickle versus chocolate-chip-scone comparison, confirmed in the recording.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Curtis makes an egg-and-cheese sandwich with bacon pancakes as bread. Ryan removes the bacon, discussing thicker bacon or sausage as alternatives. Brad adds candied bacon and initially says almonds, then corrects himself to pecans. Plain pancakes win the round, while fried pickle remains the running champion. The recording confirms Ryan’s proposal.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Brad proposes a deviled egg inside the sandwich, Curtis proposes turkey over deviled ham used as a spread, and Ryan proposes grilled pineapple. Ryan admits picturing ordinary ham and not having looked up deviled ham. Turkey wins the round, but the later standings retain fried pickle. A question about avoiding a tiebreaker does not establish an extra tiebreak round or numerical tally.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Ryan proposes very thin jerky; Curtis offers a charcuterie board on which the fish can be ignored; Brad adds tartar sauce. The initial choices produce a reported tie. Curtis switches allegiance to Ryan, making thin jerky the round winner, but fried pickle remains champion.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Ryan adds dips, such as smoked chipotle or mustard. Curtis proposes a hog in a sleeping bag: a full-size brat dipped in bacon-pancake batter and fried. Brad retains the original pig-in-a-blanket pastry, wraps it in an already-cooked pancake and deep-fries it. Initial votes favor Brad. After Curtis clarifies that his batter is fried, Ryan switches to him and Curtis wins the round.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
Only Ryan votes because he has neither remaining contender. He rejects the fried pickle and chooses the hog in a sleeping bag; the group explicitly names Curtis the winner. The final comparison is separate from the sixth food round, without an invented point total.
This round boundary is recorded; no separately attributable answers are available inside it.
The segment is recorded; individual answers are not available in this archive entry.

That's you. Well, speaking of food, in this episode, we get a lot of talk about food, in particular breakfast. And there is specifically a touted great improvement on the pancake in the form of putting bacon directly into the batter. So what I want to know is, have either of you ever innovated on pancakes? And or do you have an idea you'd like to try? I don't know what's going on, but in like TikTok now, I feel like every fifth video is someone making like a stuffed waffle or a stuffed pancake. I don't know what this is. I'm not for it. I think I've gotten too old. No, I agree with you. I watch a guy that lives in Alaska and he goes to this stuffed pancake place all the time and it's too much. It's just too much. When have you ever eaten a pancake and been like, I wish there was more crap in here? Never once has that ever come up in my head. Yeah. People put like whole sandwiches and stuff and then surrounded by a waffle. Like, why are we doing that? I don't need that at all. They make like a sandwich and use pancakes as the buns. Too much. Well, I don't know if I've even seen that. They had that at Sam's Club once and we got it and no one in my house ate it because they thought it was disgusting. So I had to eat them all. And it was fine. Isn't this the exact concept of the McGriddle though? No. Yes. Yes. Do not. No. McGriddle's a whole, McGriddle's a great item. Please explain the difference. I fucking love a McGriddle. Great. So there's no difference. You just love a McGriddle. Okay. That's fair. No. What the McGriddle does that everything else doesn't do is it's got those little pockets of syrup, which work really well. And also there's only one meat item you can do with a McGriddle and it's bacon. If you do anything else, it's blasphemy. Curtis, going back, what is the question we're supposed to answer right now? Is it this? Am I nailing it? What have you innovated with pancakes? And if you haven't ever innovated on pancakes, what would you want? My innovation is I want to stop the kids from innovating on pancakes. Knock it off. Eat pancakes like normal. You asked a moment ago, have you ever wanted more stuff in the pancakes? And I've ordered them in the past where they do come with some kind of a flavor of some kind. And inevitably I lose interest in all of the rigmarole and just want syrup. So I think you're right about that. I've never had a quote unquote pancake innovation that's been worthwhile. We have a place here that does pancake balls and it's fun for about two seconds. Then you're like, you know what? I would rather just have pancakes though. I do have an innovation because I want to put dry chicken in my pancake. Yeah, we know. When we were moving, we had a box of pancake mix that we needed to get through and get, you know, get rid of, we were going to move that. And we also had some applesauce that we were going to move. I'm not liking this direction. I'm not liking where we're at. Now, admittedly, I did look it up. I looked up online. Is there a way to make like an apple-y pancake thing? And I found a recipe and I used applesauce, which was part of the recipe. It was, it was what the recipe called for. And the pancake mix and I made apple pancakes and they were so bland and so bad. They were not good. But my, my husband is a talented cook when he is inspired either by eating something really good or something that should be good, but it was terrible because I made it. He will go. So he actually like baked an apple and turned it into like the batter to make much better pancakes with apple flavor. It was fucking amazing. It was so fucking good. It's kind of hard to picture. So he baked an apple and then quote unquote, how do we mean, turned it into batter to cook it down? So it was something that would mix into the batter. Oh, what happens when you bake an apple? I've never really done that. I'm going to be honest with you. I don't have the recipe for you. He made it. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm grasping at straws as to how he did this. I'm so confused actually. He might've sauteed them. I don't know. I, I just know that he somehow infused wonderful, thoroughly tasty apple flavor into pancakes and it was fantastic. Ryan, why don't you start a podcast with Curtis's husband where you can ask him about all his cooking skills. Okay. We might have to, I'm very confused. Also, I, I don't know anything about cooking like Curt. So I would, I would love to learn from him via podcast. Well, should we learn what the fuck's going on with Frazier this week? Might as well. Yes. Yes, I think we should. We open with fireworks over Seattle. We get a title card one week later in Belize. The family is enjoying breakfast with Claire before their flight home from Belize. Frazier confides in Niles that he thinks maybe he'd rather be with Lana. Um, excuse me, you left out your intro that there's a previously on to start the season. What are we doing, Frazier? First of all, I don't think it's that unusual for a television show to have some kind of a cliffhanger. They have to recap at the beginning of the season. Correct. I didn't think that was weird at all, right? If you either do a previously on every episode or you don't, you don't do it for like the way they do it where they just do random ones whenever they feel like you don't do that to start a season. Yes, you do. No, you don't. If the season ended on a cliffhanger, which we don't know, but we have to assume there's no chance that then the cliffhanger resolve is some people eating breakfast. Like what, what could that cliffhanger possibly did? It's pretty clear at the breakfast that Frazier is now officially conflicted about his relationship. So presumably the last season must have ended on him realizing his conflict. Ryan, you're also forgetting there was a week between it. It said one week later in Belize. That's exactly why it's a weird cliffhanger move. Okay. Before we get into the scene, because we're still talking about the previously on, what, what platforms did you watch the song? Oh, I watched it on Hulu. I watched it on Paramount Plus. Thank God I watched it on Hulu because trying to get through with Paramount Plus would have been a nightmare. Okay. I'm glad you watched on Hulu because I, I went to our favorite website, KACL.net, where they have transcripts of every episode. To my great confusion, the transcript has a scene of Diane and Lilith in that car from the episode we covered last week, where they're sort of fighting with Frazier in a car. And then we get a title card that says one week earlier in Belize. So it's like, it starts from later in the episode and flashes back to the, the Caribbean. What, where is that scene? And why is it not in the episode anymore? Why did they change the title card? Is this a function of it being a hour long episode that got split into two episodes? I think that's an issue with that website. Cause I watched some Paramount Plus and that did not exist. Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about. Yeah. Really weird. I can't imagine they just invented that scene further as fan fiction. I think they did. I think they did. I looked everywhere. I looked high and while I tried to find any evidence that the original run episode and like the later reruns were different. I looked for anything I could find and found no. So if anybody listening has some, some Intel on this, I would be fascinated to know what happened here. I think the infallible KACL.net might've just, they might've just jumbled one. Might be okay. Hey Curtis, I think sometimes you can't trust everything you see on the internet, buddy. Take this as a loss. I simply won't live that way, Brad. Take a breath. Yep. All right. Talking about the episode now, here we go again, doing this, the wraparound arc where it's like we, we started something last season. We bring it one to three episodes into the next season. I find it very annoying. What are you talking about? I did not follow that at all. We're clearly mid story arc, right? Where there's a love triangle between Frasier, Claire and Lana, whatever it is. Right. That's how we're starting it. We know it's going into the next two episodes and this isn't the first time they've done that. I see what you're saying. You're saying that in season nine and 10, we had season 10 kind of starting with let's wrap up and get rid of Julia. And then this season, they're wrapping up and getting rid of Lana and Claire. Got it. Right. And it's really, it's really weird. It is weird. Like a season nine only did one episode of this story arc and wrapped it right there, but this is two with Julia. It was like eight or whatever or three. I still, I don't remember, but it was a lot. I feel like a lot of shows will cliffhanger a season and what they're ending the season on is setting up the whole next season. Everything in the next season is going to be all about what we're dropping now. And Frasier does the opposite where they spend a whole season on a plot line and then rather than wrapping it up at the end of the season, they try to make it a cliffhanger. And then at the beginning of the next season, they're just like, I guess we don't care about that anymore. Let's do something new. Yeah. I find it very, very off putting. We'll see if it gets better in some of the earlier seasons or if they stopped doing it entirely. But this is at least the second time we've done this. I can't remember if we've done it for, if we did it going into season 11. Now I hope it's just one of those Frasier tropes. I hope every season ends with some kind of a love situation that's going to peter out at the beginning of the next season. That would make sense. It's just so far it annoys me. I can't believe you didn't start this by talking about Niles's beard. I loved it. Big fan of Niles's beard. Obviously we'll be talking a lot about Island Niles this whole episode. That should have been your first thing. Okay. Yeah. Goatee Niles was pretty shocking. I will say that. Island Niles was pretty shocking, but I liked it. You know, you just talked about how some storylines go forever. This, this one should have lasted the whole season. Just Island Niles. It would have been great. I wish Island Niles would have popped back up. What like they referenced him having a baby for Christmas. That would have been great. I'm asking this because it might be obvious. I don't know. I couldn't really tell. Did you think that this was an actual beard he grew out over the summer or is this a, what do you call it? Beard wig? Aesthetic. Aesthetic. That doesn't sound right. Is that, is that the word? No, definitely not. Isn't it called like a gherkin or something like that? I think merkin is the word you're thinking of. What's that? And it is not for the face, my friend. Oh, okay. Is it a face merkin? I don't think it was real. Okay. You think it's a face merkin? I do think it's a face merkin. I think it's real. It did seem like something that they could have done. Like he would have had time to grow out a beard over the summer just for this bit. Like it is doable. Theoretically. He doesn't look like someone that can grow that kind of beard though. Yeah, he doesn't. As Ethan's pointed out, his arms can absolutely grow a beard, but maybe not his face. Ethan would totally support this. I forgot. I forgot how into looking at people's wrists Ethan is. I love when Claire leaves the scene and we've already established Marty is in love with the pancakes she made. She made the bacon pancakes. He's really into them. And fishing together. And they went fishing together. But I love that when she leaves, he, without missing a beat, just takes her leftover pancake. Yes. What I thought you were going to say is you kind of knew this relationship was going to work when Frazier made them retake the photo without her. Yeah. I think that was a very clear indicator. And we know where it's headed. So that, that helps. Yeah. It's weird that the, the family wasn't like, oh boy, there's no way she was that far away. She probably could have turned around and seen it. Okay. Well, I will get more into that in the next scene for sure. Got it. Yeah, definitely. Regardless, why, why is it so imperative that they get a photo without her? Yeah. It's not like they take photos of themselves all the time. That's a good point, right? Like it doesn't matter. Initially, did you guys know that was Claire? She looked old enough as like, maybe she's with Marty. It's hard for me to say, cause I've seen every episode. So it wasn't like I knew who Claire was, but I don't, Curtis, how about you? I recognize the actress. I don't remember Claire in this series, but I definitely recognize the actress. Um, I think it was pretty obvious to me right away. It was Claire just because it was so evident that there was going to be a Claire in the show and there's a new woman sitting at the table. Yeah, but her and Marty really hit it off. Like really hit it off. I get why he's upset. No, I get it. We'll see if Grazier and her have any chemistry because obviously we didn't see it in this episode. Brad, do you want to talk about who's playing Claire? Isn't that your whole job? I kind of stopped doing that cause no one seemed to Claire care when I did that. Claire? Yeah, I didn't even mean to do that, but I can. Give me one second. What do you mean no one cared? We never said that. You just always picked the random person that wasn't the interesting one. Okay. I'm Ryan. I sound like a goldfish. Is that your impression of me? I thought that was Curt. It's Patricia Clarkson. What's she from? She's one of those big character actors, but I will say the thing that I most recognize her from is being Ron Swanson's first wife. Sit up straight. You're not doing your breasts any favors. Correct. I know her from the Green Mile. Okay, those are two huge things. Wait, she was Tammy one? Tammy one, yeah. Oh, she was on Six Feet Under. I always forget about that. Ever watched that one? Oh, it's a good one. Looked good. Yeah, you ever seen The Maze Runner? I mean, I have it, but she was in that. No, I've read The Maze Runner. Was she in the book? It's funny. There's almost no adults in the book. She played the villain, I think? Eva Page. In a book with mostly children, was the villain just an adult? Yes. First of all, yes. I don't think she shows up in the first book. This is a weird book series. And a weird conversation. We should probably just go to the next scene, huh? I think that's a good idea. Wait, you don't want to talk about hypnotizing a lobster? It's like your whole thing, Brad. We can talk about it. We'll talk about it now. Don't you guys think I'd be good at hypnotizing a lobster? No. Is this why you wanted to talk about it? Just hear me out. Just listen, okay? Pretend like you're lobsters. Okay. Yeah, I can do that. I put up little antennas to make me know I'm a lobster. Thank you. This is what I would do. Lobster. It's time to sleep right now. Lobster. You know what hypnotism is. Excuse me, lobsters don't talk. Lobster. It's time to float. Lobster. Listen to my voice. Lobster. Stop flippity floppy. Ryan, you lose 10 points because you didn't need to bring this up. You didn't need to bring this up. We were clear to move on. Brad, I'm waiting for a hypnotized command. When I say the magic word, you're going to wake up. Okay? On the count of three. One, two, three. Beetlejuice. See, it worked, Curtis. This is definitely going to be a good bit that stays in. I'm not going to lie. I kind of got into it. I was annoyed when he started singing and then I was like, you know what? I'm kind of, as a lobster, I'm kind of floating through this. I'm really annoyed because you're saying you were into it, but then when he gave you an opening to say something or do something or participate in any way, you just made a weird noise. He told me I wasn't allowed to talk because lobsters don't talk. Oh, yeah. Okay. That's Brad's fault. Yeah, just play Brad. Yeah, I was following commands. Thank you very much. On the flight home, Fraser brazenly consults anyone who will listen about his poly problems. Man. All right. We're on the plane. And first of all, what decade is this? Did we ever give full teacups on planes? That looked crazy. Well, one interesting point. I don't think this affects the size of the plane, but this would have been aired post 9-11, but almost certainly filmed pre 9-11. Absolutely. I don't think that the cutoff for full-blown breakable teacups was terrorism. I can't imagine like, they're like, okay, we got to get rid of all of the china. I'm more referring to Fraser hanging out on the plane after everybody's left. I mean, there is a lot of hanging around this airplane. Also, this must have been a really big plane that she didn't even notice that he was going around talking about her. Okay. She's sleeping next to him. That's how we start the thing. Yeah. Really crazy. Marty and Fraser are discussing Fraser's desire to leave Claire for Lana. Well, not his desire to, his ambivalence, his uncertainty. But he's saying it at like full volume across the aisle to Marty when Claire is just next to him. They're not trying to whisper it and they're even kind of getting yelly and she's just hardcore out. She must be very drugged up. It was a very deep sleep. Because Marty was getting upset because he's like, you should be with Claire because Claire is the best. And he doesn't even say like, hey, Marty, keep it down. Like she's right here. Both of them are just full volume. I think she got hit with a horse tranquilizer or something like she is out, which is like, it's hard to sleep halfway decent on a plane. She is out. Those were big seats, though. And Marty didn't even have anybody next to him. I know they're going to show up later in the scene, but where were Niles and Daphne sitting? Because I did not see them. So confusing. Yeah. They just cut to them chatting in the back of the plane. They're just having a hang back near the bathrooms. It's a very wide plane, clearly. But then also it seemed like they were in first class, which I would believe. But then when they go to the back of the plane, it seems like the back of the plane is like, I don't know, 10 feet from the front of the plane. It's just a very bizarre plane set. Insane plane set. So we're doing weird airplane chats all over. Then we cut to everyone's off the plane and the friendliest airplane janitor ever. Lana has a good point. And don't underestimate the crush she had on her in 11th grade. Claire can give you sophisticated conversation and she leaves a clean area. But he does tell him to lift his feet up so that he can then scrub underneath. And they're both having a great time with it. Well, and I think this is the scene where we get a little bit of sleuthing about his relationship with Lana. Yes, I did no sleuthing. This was his 11th grade crush. Lana was. Yes, yes. I didn't hear that at all. What? Yeah, they knew each other since high school. Yes, that we do find that out. I think I was just like weirded out about where they're having airplane chats. I didn't listen to any of it, apparently. It wasn't that short of a scene, but every conversation was so short. So I don't blame you for missing something, Ryan. They ran through like the 30 people he talked to in a two minute scene. Yeah. If this is his 11th grade crush, though, that does change things a lot. It's weird that they kind of just say it as like a one-off comment and don't really address it at all. Again. It makes more sense why this is weighing on him. Yeah. Because we watched these as two distinct episodes and not as one long episode, I didn't think about it till just now. But it is kind of funny. The first half is Frasier going to anybody he knows in like contemporary life to hash out what should I do about this. And the second half is him doing the same thing, but with women from his past in his head. Yeah. He's really having a tough time with us once. We meet Tropical Niles, goatee and all. Roz encourages him to relive his nude beach dreams at a place she knows in Seattle. Lana arrives with invitations to Kirby's graduation party. Excuse me, sir. Who is Tropical Niles? How dare you? What? Is that not his name? Island Niles. Island Niles. Oh, how did that get miscommunicated in my notes? Did you get hit on the head by a coconut? I thought Island Niles would be annoying. I really enjoyed Island Niles. If he was there the rest of the time, it would have been fine. He wasn't overbearing in a way I would have expected. As much as I would have loved to see more of him, it was the perfect amount of time for Island Niles. Maybe the difference is when we see Niles in these little obsessive moments, he's often sort of pushing it on others. He really is putting it in their face. I think Island Niles, he's just living his best life. It's not for anybody but him. Yeah, definitely. And the funny thing is we have to, at this point, realize that we're probably never actually going to see Island Niles on the island. Because if the episode jumps one week later, we're probably never going to see him actually on the island. I would love to see how he enjoyed it. It's a really strong point, actually. I hope we're not deprived of a clearly indoor set made to look like a beach. I think we are because it says one week later in Belize. So my guess is we don't get to see the week in Belize. Can you Belize it? Nice. Maybe it's a two-week vacation. Maybe. All right, so Kirby and his mom enter the scene. And we guessed this, but it's clear now that we are going to get Kirby at some point in season eight. The Kirby count is at four episodes so far of Kirby. It's high. Higher than I expected. Yeah, we're probably looking at over five at this point is my guess. Given your feelings about Kirby in general and the suggestion of an amount of Kirby we're going to be getting in season eight. You said at the top of this you're excited to be out of season nine. I'm worried it's going to be out of the pot into the fire kind of a situation. Well, I stand by it. Every time we see Kirby going, like every time we see him again, it's a better usage of him. Like they got worse at using him every time he showed up. And this is another case of that, I think. And Ryan, you find out something interesting in this scene. Roswell's is property. We already knew that. Yeah, we knew that. We knew that ages ago. We already knew that. Okay. Frasier meets a fan who asks for advice on his love life. Frasier tricks him into answering his own question and then borrows the answer to pick Lana. So I didn't pick up on this last time, but Kirby's dad's definitely somebody, right? So I looked him up. I can tell you his name. You looked up this guy, but not the other one? You looked up this guy, but not Patricia Clarkson? That was like 10 minutes ago. I had enough time to look him up. Oh, okay. Okay. His name is Brian Kerwin. He has been in 10,000 things, but very, very like small roles. Like he was on an episode of West Wing, an episode of Nip Tuck, an episode of Big Love, a murder she wrote. You don't have to just read it if he was on a thing. That's fine. I don't think he was in something more than one episode. His list of things is massively long. He wasn't in anything significant. Were you big into Law and Order? He was on a bunch of Law and Order episodes. No. No, not at all. He was on three episodes of the West Wing and you recently watched that. Which season? Season five, I think. The good one. Yeah, I don't remember. All right. I have a bit of a bone to pick with both of you and I'm expecting repentance, but I'm not holding my breath. So. You were getting none. Last episode, I got quite a lot of shit for suggesting maybe Lana's husband isn't good for her. And maybe it's crazy for both her and, well, Frasier to sort of encourage going back to him. In this episode, we get a little more detail about his whole deal. And am I not correct in saying this guy's kind of a sleazebag? Like his whole thing is like, ah, I kind of think I should go back to my wife. And even when Frasier is like saying he's a good guy, he's like, I'm kind of not. I'm kind of an asshole. Refresh us. Was that exactly what he said? Who are you picking? My ex. I mean, if I'm really honest with myself, she's the one I love. As long as I stay with Kathy, I'm just being a jerk. No, well, to be fair, you have struggled with these issues. No, I've really just been trying to have my cake and eat it too. Yes, Curtis. We'll admit this guy is terrible and we are wrong for defending him. Is that what you would hear? Yes. I wasn't going to listen to that. You didn't even have to be sincere. I just want to hear that I'm right. I wasn't going to say that at all. I'm talking for both Ryan and I. We don't accept. No repentance, Curt. Ryan, you've been spoken for. Yes. You know, fair enough. Daphne is jealous of the universally loved Claire. Regular Niles explains that Roz murdered Island Niles by sending him to a regular beach to get nude at. What is deviled ham? Is it a thing? I misheard this the first time. I thought they said deviled egg sandwich and I was trying to figure out, is that different from like just an egg salad sandwich? Like what would be a deviled egg sandwich? I would try a deviled egg sandwich. You know what? Someone make one. Send it to us. It seems like it'd be hard to eat. Like it would just fall apart. No, you get a bread that accommodates it fine. I suppose. Anyway, when I rewound and found out it was deviled ham, I had to look it up because I wasn't very familiar. It's very similar to any other kind of egg salad or potato salad. It's like a mayonnaise-y chopped ham sandwich. But here's the thing. They bring out the sandwich and I'm telling you, I looked at this thing. It just looks like regular sliced ham on the sandwich. There's nothing deviled about it. It bedeviled me. I was really bothered by this. It bedeviled me. I didn't even remember seeing it. Claire brings it out to Marty. We don't get a great look at it because he sets it on his lap and it's kind of out of view for most of the scene. And that really annoyed me because I really wanted to see this thing. And no, when he gave it to her, he goes, thanks, toots. Oops. Call someone a toots in 2001. Old people and you also. I think it really speaks to the familiarity they've bred together. No, yes, I agree with you. But also Marty would say that's somebody he doesn't know. Why is she so into serving and catering to Marty? You're right, Ryan. The whole episode really seems like they're flirting with each other. They have tons of chemistry, but it's so weird. Yeah, we don't get really any scenes with her with Frasier except for the breakups. The next one, yeah. Incredibly abrupt breakup. They pass by each other at breakfast. She's asleep on the plane and then they break up. So we have no sense of their chemistry. We know Daphne up until this point is very kind of annoyed at her for being misattention. Niles seems to like her, but he's not. He's not really in this episode. He's in his own episode. This one. We should have gotten the Island Niles episode. Yeah, definitely. The next episode where they're like, where all three of them are obsessed with Claire doesn't really track in this episode. I didn't think so at first because it's clear Daphne doesn't like her. And then in the next episode, she is as into her as anybody else. But I think in the next scene, they're going to make sense of that. I don't think we did enough to get there. Oh, I agree. Before that, though, the fish jerky joke she makes is one of the worst jokes we've had on the show. And Marty loves it. You know the secret to making fish jerky, don't you, Marty? No, I do. Feed them coffee. Feed them. That's terrific. You hear that, Daphne? I'm stunning right here. Can you explain that joke? Because I didn't even get it. You feed it coffee and it'll start jerking around. Horrible. Is that just a caffeine joke? It's a caffeine joke. It's a caffeine. It's not even funny. Yeah. It's a very, very Brad-ish joke. It is a Brad-ish joke. I think that's why I didn't like it. Because I was like, don't steal my humor. Don't shine a mirror up to what I said. I think the real mystery of this scene is everybody loves Claire. But she's actively in the process of making fish jerky. And I don't know how that is not just a deal breaker. Oh, fish jerky is great. They used to have salmon jerky at Trader Joe's. It was awesome. I don't know why they stopped having it, but really good stuff. Still, it's got to smell if you're going to make that at home. No? I don't know. I don't make things at home, Curt. I don't know how this works. Fair enough. I think you make jerky out in the woods somehow. Ryan, your entire sense of where jerky is made is based on Jacqueline's jerky ads from like 10 years ago. Yeah, you like find a Yeti and then you make jerky. I don't know. I don't know how it works. Um, so shave Niles. Yeah, Island Niles was very short-lived. Yeah, well, you know, that's what happens when he goes to a beach that's not really a nude beach. You have to have signs if it's a nude beach in Seattle. I was thinking that too. Well, no, no, wait a minute. I'm taking your clothes off on beaches, Curt. There has to be a sign. I'm saying that Roz told him explicitly that there is no like legit nude beach. This is like a on the down low nude beach. Any beach can be a nude beach on the down low. Sure. I actually live walking distance to a beach now. Okay. Yeah, you can go take your clothes off there. Just people will get mad if they see you if it's not a nude beach. Did we mention I think it's the end of the scene when he gets a phone call from Roz and Roz realizes he sent him to the wrong beach? Yeah, I kind of rolled my hands at that bit. I like that there was closure. Why? I don't know. It's funny. It's typical Roz. I think it works better if she intentionally sent him to the wrong beach that it turns out she just got the like a dress wrong is stupid. Yeah, that's fair. Oh, that. Yeah, I think that they. Yeah, I think they did worse with it. I agree. Or do you think that she's just like still doing part of the joke where she's like, oh, you know what? I got the dress wrong now. She wants to send him to a second non nude beach. Yeah, I think that's in play actually. And I hope that's how I'm choosing to take it. I much prefer that. Honestly, that should have been the scrambled egg scene, right? We should have gotten like the part where Roz like, no, it's actually a different location. And then you show him like just chest and above like going to a beach and getting chased off by a bunch of grandmas. And a Bible thrown at him would be great. With like him putting on a fake mustache and beard. What? To go with the Isle of Niles vibe because he already shaved. That might be a hat on a hat, Brad. Fair enough. Oh, weird. Maybe I'm pushing a little too far. Maybe. Frasier abruptly dumps Claire who kicks him. Daphne finally bonds with her in the hall post breakup and also kicks him. Marty kicks Frasier with his words. I think it would have been funny if your intro was just Frasier got kicked. Just pretty good summary of it. Yeah. I kind of wish Marty would have gave him a real kick. I think the only reason that he didn't is because it would have meant getting out of a chair. And he's old. Daphne's kick had some weight to it. Well, Claire's kicks clearly did no damage. Yeah. You're acting like a soccer player where he got really hurt. He's like, ah. How did you feel about the actual breakup? It was weird. It was weirdly abrupt. Yes. Frasier's really bad at breaking up. Is this the first breakup we've seen? The only other time I can remember a breakup is when he breaks up with Jean-Luc Picard. And he does a good job there. Oh, I like you so much. And I love our friendship. I'm afraid I can never really be more than friends. No! I mean, yeah. I guess he doesn't really break up with Nanette. He just kind of, like, walks away. They weren't together. Well, there's the breakup with Julia. That was pretty aggressive. Well, she was a monster, though. I don't remember actually how they broke up, though. Screaming at each other. It ended how they lived. You listen right there, though. She was being actually super crazy. Yeah. I think this is the first time where we've seen where it's been a very unjust breakup from Frasier's end. Agreed. But it was abrupt. And I felt uncomfortable with it. And I have known Claire for, like, one scene. So it was really weird. It was a weird headspace to be in while watching him break up poorly. Yeah. I mean, he did the courtesy of doing it in the total, utter privacy of that kitchen. But it is weird to... Like, there's something weird to me about breaking up with somebody in your own home. And then not only that, but when they go to leave, they have to, like, walk through your family to get out of there. And she didn't even say anything to them. She just ran right out, which was the right move. Why would she say anything to them? Your son's a dick. I could see that, actually. Yeah. Sure. Well, especially because her and Marty hit it off so well. Yeah. You think she said something to them. So, Ryan, you mentioned it before. How do you feel about the whole Daphne part of, like, becoming best friends with her so quickly? Nonsense. It is nonsense. I think that it's wild for Daphne to go from clearly annoyed at this person for getting all the attention to immediately feeling like they were destined to be sisters. Like, I don't think that worked at all. I get why she flipped like that. I thought that was fine. The thing I don't like is the next episode when she's waiting for Claire to call back. It's like you had one weird moment near an elevator. Like, you're not waiting for her to call. And she felt it necessary to kick Frazier based on that, too. She lost the sister she never had. That's fine. Like, so I can get that emotional rush that she went through. But I agree with Curtis. She, she, what, why did he become sister so quickly? I get what Ryan's coming from. Ryan is saying that she, in that moment, sort of saw, oh, like, I was only thinking about what I was losing in terms of attention from men. But I could have finally had something that would pass the Bechdel test if you had stuck around. And she basically realized she lost that. So she was there. I mean, obviously, the Bechdel thing would have never happened. But yes, definitely. Definitely. I can see why she was into it. Marty's reaction. I'm a little bit perplexed by because he kind of he accuses Frazier. You've been planning this since Belize, haven't you? Almost like that's a revelation. But like, Marty, did you forget the plane ride where he told you exactly this, that he was thinking about doing this? Yeah. Are you surprised? At the table when he asked to get the picture, doesn't he then already start asking questions? Or no? I don't think so. But I think like that that moment would have been a tip off the fact that he literally talked on the plane about it. Yeah. 100%. Why didn't Marty just go ask Claire out? Yes. That would have made sense. We know from future episodes that he liked younger women. So he should have. You know how in in moments where something happens, you like you walk away feeling like shit. And then you like think, oh, that's what I should have said. Yeah. Well, the jerk store called. They're running out of you. I think this explains Ronnie in a couple seasons. Oh. Now Marty knows what, like, I missed out on Claire. I'm not going to miss out on another one of my son's love interests. Oh, I love that. I think it totally tracks. We get a title card. Cheese and sympathy. At Kirby's party, Roz is called a slut by Kirby's other love interest. Frazier struggles to communicate his feelings for Lana before her ex shows up. Then we get another title card to be continued. I thought this whole scene was actually kind of fun. Yeah, I think so too. That's wild. I do not agree with that. I felt like this scene, the first thought I had was, gosh, this is a long scene with a whole lot of nothing. I like the bit when the other girl comes and calls Roz a slut. Like, that's funny. Yeah. And Kirby's doing his weird like, damn woman. You know, like I thought that stuff was fun. Yeah. I liked confident Kirby. Maybe you just got to lighten up a little bit, Curt. Yeah. Stop keeping Kirby down. Never. I will hold my ground on that. It was funny watching Kirby try to be cool because he's so corny. And I think I enjoyed that. Yeah. He does. He does play a corny, very interesting. Yeah. The damn girl. He says it in such a funny way. Damn baby, that's cold. I think because the hair waves and everything. That helps. The hair movement helps in this scene for sure. Yeah. Have we made the comparison to Sideshow Bob yet? No, but that's accurate. That's really accurate. If you are pod only and you've been trying to picture these characters and you don't know what Kirby looks like, it is Sideshow Bob. Damn baby, now that's cold. Which is a Kelsey Grammer character, interestingly. Is it really? Yeah, it is. I didn't know that. You didn't know that? Why would I know that? I'm not allowed to Google these things. That's like, that's not a Frasier thing. I'm from a generation that The Simpsons was long past by the time we were of TV watching age. What? What are you talking about? It was way past its prime. That's shocking. I'm really surprised to learn that. Anyway, you said there's nothing in this scene. We get sleuthin', Curt. Yes, lots of sleuthin'. Finally, you're gonna sleuth. Another Crane Boys mystery solved. Yeah, because Lana matched Frasier up with Claire somehow. Very confusing. That's what we, we don't know how or why. It's very confusing, however it's gonna go down. That's the thing that I can't quite wrap my head around. Like, okay, so he's thinking maybe Lana, maybe Claire. He's not sure which one to pick. But surely, he must have had at least an inkling that if Lana set him up with Claire, that means that if he doesn't pick Claire, he's definitely risking losing Lana just on that basis. Yeah. Right. It's weird that this does not come up in the future. Yeah, definitely. But like, the love triangle bit's really confusing, because you don't expect part of the triangle to have hooked the other part of the triangle up. I don't understand it at all. I don't know how we could get there. Well, it'll be fascinating to see how any of this comes together. I also, like, I get, maybe she's a matchmaker? Is this our second matchmaker we're getting on Frasier? Maybe? I don't know. I got the impression it was more like Claire was, like, a friend, or, like, somebody Lana is set them up with. But I would love if it's something ridiculous that they barely knew each other. She said that she's not mad about it, which, why would you be mad about it even if you hooked someone up? Like, if you hooked your two friends up, like, you wouldn't be mad that it didn't work out. I think it makes sense for Frasier to be kind of nervous that him dumping her friend would make her mad at Frasier. It would be weird if it's just a service she provided and it's essentially a stranger to Lana. Then it would be really weird as a business thing for her to be mad about it. That's true. If anything, that's just repeat business. Yeah, true. I'm intrigued for the previous episode. I'll say that. I don't get it. I don't get how we got here. Before Frasier plays this out, we get a sizzle reel of scenes from part two. Once he starts singing, all we get is a dark, empty, apart. What is this? You can't do it next time and then give away? They have a major spoiler thing. Is this because of the two-parter? What is this? I think this is a kind of weird artifact of the way this was released. This was released as a single hour-long episode. And so when they had to split it up for syndication and make it two episodes, they had never filmed a second toss salad scene. So that's why it's just an empty apartment because they don't have anything else to put. And the sizzle reel must have been like, we can't just have an empty. We have to do something at the end of the episode. They didn't have to have the scrambled egg bit. I think they could have just done his song while doing the next time thing. Yeah. Or say to be continued. Yeah. With the song on. That's true. The empty apartment was so weird. Yeah. And also, why'd they film that? Why was that what they went with? I don't even think they filmed it. I think they just had like, they caught a still of the apartment when it was dark and just sort of Ken Burns did. It was all editing. There was no filming. Hey, why did they have that be? Why don't you just do a still of like Frasier's face or whatever? I'm like, what is this? If they went full like 80s freeze frame for this one episode, that would be funny. But I'll tell you what wasn't funny. Just seeing the dark apartment. I don't know what the hell was. Yeah. I think they could have done either the sizzle reel or just like black background with credits and the song. Like there was never a reason to include the empty apartment. I have real beef with the sizzle reel too, though. I would be very disappointed if I saw the sizzle reel and then we saw what they actually did in that episode. But what they actually did in the episode is really interesting. So like the spoilers they give and how they give them makes it look like it's going to be something totally different in a way that you would have weird expectations for. I would have been so annoyed actually watching the episode, even though they're doing something really cool. It's a peculiar choice. Yeah, I don't I don't really understand the on the next Frasier episode thing they did. That's definitely not how I'd tee it up. I don't know what I would do because it was a it was a bonkers episode, but I wouldn't do that. Well, Brad, how bonkers is your take on this episode? Very bonkers because I had a really hard time deciding what to give it because it's not a good episode, but it's not like the worst episode ever. There's a couple of good bits that I actually like the last scene and that kind of saved my score. I'm still going to go B minus. I think it was I think it is worse than the next episode. It's just it was it. It's just was an episode. I don't know. Was it like it was definitely an episode. It was definitely an episode. How do you feel like contextually? Do you think this was an interesting or good way to start off the season? And then also when you factored as a two parter, how do you feel? I think it does do a good job of setting up the next episode. I mean, it speeds things up a little much, but like it's a weird for a season opener. Like I would have watched this episode and think, wow, this season is going to be fire. But you would have watched it as a two parter. So maybe that might change things. A hundred percent. But that's I can't rake it that way because I didn't do that. OK, Curtis. Yeah, I agree. I think that the first episode doesn't rise anywhere near the heights of the second part. And honestly, we talked about this last week. I almost feel like there isn't enough of the Diane Lilith Nanette interaction. I wish we had more of that. I almost wish because this whole episode is how can we just eliminate these characters in one fell swoop? How can we just be done with these this storyline? I almost wish the way they played it was like, Fraser has an impulsive on vacation, like before the flight home, I'm breaking up with you. And then an awkward flight home. And then he's just like, what have I done? And then it doesn't work out with Lana for any reason. Make any reason why it doesn't work out with Lana even after that. And now he's alone in a cabin for like 40 minutes of our runtime. Just like what? What have I done? Why have I done it? What is wrong with me? I think that would have been a much meatier episode than what we got. So I did not think this was particularly good. I put this one at 59 out of 82. See, that's fair. Better than Fraser has Spokane, but worse than Bully for Martin. Kafka. Ryan, where do you win? Pretty average. I like it as a standalone, actually, more than as a two-parter. So opposite of how you thought. Yeah. I don't think it did the things to set up for what we do in the next episode in part two of this. I think you could have done it way different. Some of the stuff you were laying out, Curt, makes sense. If it was just a slow descent into madness that leads to all the visions, that could have been fun. Not what we get. I think they're fairly disjointed ideas mashed up together. Very similar to what Kenny was saying last week. I think that bared out here. But the episode on it by itself, I thought it was fine. It certainly wasn't the worst we had in season nine. I don't think it's a good tone setter, but the two parts together, I think, is. It doesn't set the tone for what we actually get, but that's a different matter. So all in all, I gave it a five. Very average. I would give it lower as the part one of part two, though. There were a bunch of food items highlighted in this episode, but can we plus them up? We'll find out in a new game of Food Elevator. I like Food Elevator. What do you mean? Can we plus them up? It's not a phrase. It is. We are going to go around describing how we would improve each dish from the episode. And I think as we go, we're going to keep track of our running favorite. What do you mean? Like for each round? Yeah, what do you mean? Yeah. For the first round, we're each going to say what we do to make scones more exciting. And then we're going to vote on what the best option was. And we're going to compare that to each subsequent dish. And we're going to see if whatever we pick for scones wins the day and is the best dish overall, or if it gets replaced by something else down the line. Okay. Okay, sure. Let's just make this even more confusing. Got it. Okay, cool. That's my trademark. I think I get it. Yeah, I get it. I like it. Scones are first. We got to check in with Bradley first. I went really simple. Just make it chocolate. Just put some cocoa powder in the batter. Make it chocolate. Simple. I was with you on chocolate scone. You've lost me on cocoa powder as your delivery vehicle of chocolate. Scones are already so notoriously dry, and you want to improve it by putting some powder in there. Am I not? That's not my problem with it. When do you have a baked good where you're just like, I'll just make the whole thing chocolate, and that makes it better? I can't think of a single time where you would do that. Look, my whole key audience is just white women. So I think it will work. I really do. They do love their cocoa powder. I'll give you that. I'll go next, because mine's very similar. Scones are basically just a weird-shaped cookie. I've had two great scones. I've talked about this in the past. One of them, just their chocolate chips in there, instantly upgrades it. It's a similar idea to Brad's, but infinitely better. I similarly thought, we don't get what kind of a scone it is. Maybe there are plain scones. That sounds terrible. There definitely are. There definitely are plain scones. I think plain scones like most of the scones out there. Yeah. I think an obvious improvement is a fixin. So, you know, something like a blueberry, for instance. But the real problem is how dry and sad and unpleasant scones are. They don't have to be. I'm just going to say that. They don't have to be at all. Well, they don't, because to plus this up, my solution is it's going to be blueberry and it's going to be a muffin. Oh. Okay. Well, Curtis doesn't know how games work. It is better. It's true. It's different. Yeah. It's like, you might as well just said like a steak. You know, that wouldn't be better. How about we count to three and then we're going to each at the same time say the name of the person that you would pick. Why don't we say the idea? Sure. One, two, three, chocolate chip scones. Jumpery muffin? What do you say, Brad? Chocolate chip scones. Chocolate chip scones is the winner. Yeah. Okay, next up, cornichon. A what? Uh, it's basically a pickle, a cornichon. Curtis called me. Are you, first of all, are you pronouncing it right? I think it's pronounced cornish-en, right? No, that's a cornish game head. What is he, what did Curtis say? Cornish-en. And what'd I say? Cornish game head. If you throw a game in the middle, that's different, but I think it's the same word. Have you guys had pickled daikon? Stop using words no one's heard of. It's like a Japanese, I don't know if it's a root vegetable. I'm not really sure what it is, but it's really delicious. You've figured out that you've had it. It's a bright yellow. What does it taste like? What is it? What are you talking about? It tastes like a pickled vegetable. What are you on about? So that's your upgrade? Yeah, a daikon's way better than a cucumber. Oh, is this whole game you're just swapping out? Are you just picking different fruits? Yeah. How is that elevating the item? Can I go next to type a real answer? I think so, yeah. It's really hard because you pick something no one's ever had to know if you've even done better. As we have said on this show, I am from the South. So I'm going to do what we do best in the South, and that's just fry it. Fry that baby up. So deep fry that. Make it a fried pickle, a fried cornichon. Fry that baby. That's a pretty good answer. That is a really good answer. Ryan, can you beat it? As an adult, what's the best use of a pickle? On a sandwich? No. Try again. Frying it. It obviously is part of a Bloody Mary. We know this. Okay. It's been proven time after time. So what am I going to do? You said this is a big pickle, right? Yeah. Big ass pickle. You've had pickles dipped in Bloody Mary. This is going to be Bloody Mary in the pickle. I'm going to get it like in the center somehow. Inject it in there. So everybody, you get a little Bloody Mary and pickle. This is going to be so hard for me because that's a terrible idea, but Curtis didn't really have an idea. That was a terrible idea. You like Bloody Marys. It's going to be so good. I'm revolutionizing the game. I don't want to drink something out of a pickle. No, you wouldn't drink it. You would hold it upright and then you'd slowly bite it. You'd get a little bit of pickle, a little bit of Bloody Mary. That sounds so messy. No, you're holding it upright. A pickle can already, like if you bite into a pickle that's really juicy, it can have like a little squirt that happens, which is unpleasant. I feel like you're injecting more liquid inside. It's just going to be a mess. This is the hardest vote for me. This is really difficult. Because you hate both answers so much. Oh, because yours wasn't a real answer. I just don't think you get your own game, which is really confusing because I don't think we get it, but you're definitely doing it wrong. One, two, three, fried pickle. A pickle. Yeah. What would you pick, Brad? You do have to pick one. I would pick yours, Ryan, because Curtis doesn't know how to play the game. Because Curtis didn't play the game right. Yeah, definitely. All right. Chocolate chip scone or fried pickle? Oh. I think you have to vote because you haven't won. Oh, interesting. I'm definitely voting because chocolate chip scone is definitely better. It's the fried pickle. Right. Break the tie. Yeah. Fried pickle over the chocolate chip scone because scones can be so dry. All right. Bacon pancakes. I can go first. No, I want to hear Curt's just swapping out for a different item. You poo-pooed it earlier, the idea of making sandwiches out of pancakes, but I think an egg and cheese sandwich with bacon infused pancakes is the bread. It would be delightful. That ran. I was going off. I watched a TikTok today where someone did it and it looked stupid. Look, Curtis, I'm actually happy that you learned how to play the game in our third round. So not a great answer, but at least you're moving forward. Agreed. I have a controversial move. More controversial than the thing you said you hate at the top of the show and I just said at the bottom of the show. Yes, I think so. To elevate the bacon pancake, I would just take out the bacon. I think adding bacon is a mistake that people do with a lot of dishes, especially the pancake. I don't think it's a good move at all. That's like addition by subtraction. If you had to have bacon in it, I would do like thicker chunks than you're expecting, but it's just not a good move. If you did like a breakfast sausage in the pancake, that would work great. But bacon doesn't feel like it works the same to me. I would take the bacon and I would candy it, put some brown sugar on it, have some candied bacon and also add some candy almonds. Put that in the pancake too. So you have bacon and almonds, nice treat in there. And that's what I would do with my pancakes. Flagging you for saying almonds wrong and flagging you for calling it a nice treat. But I do think you did a good job. So that's confusing. Thank you. That's a really clever job, actually. I was torn at first. I think you're right, Ryan. I think he lost us with almonds. It should have been pecans, candied pecans. It would have been the more obvious move. That's for sure. Yeah. Can you candy an almond? I don't know if that's a thing. I don't know why you would. Let's be honest. I meant to say pecans and then said the wrong thing and just wrote with it. You just kind of think all nuts are the same. To the fact that I actually wrote down pecans and somehow still said almonds. But we pretend like it's all good. To be fair, your handwriting is very difficult to read. I typed it. Oh, it's typed. Literacy gets you again. I won two, three regular pancakes. Brad's thing just because Curt picked the thing I hate. But I don't want almonds in my pancakes. I will say. And you just won. So now do we want fried pickles or do we want the plain pancakes? I think pickle over pancakes. That's my vote. Yeah, me too. I don't think that's correct. If you're like going to a place and you can order fried pickles or pancakes, you're probably picking pancakes, right? I don't know. No. I don't know. Yeah. I'm not sure I agree. I've been to many restaurants that have pancakes. I've ordered them maybe once or twice. And even then it was like for the table to share as like a dessert. It was never like for my meal. I'm sorry. When have you ever ordered fried pickle for your meal? Well, I will get it as an appetizer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You could do the same thing with a pancake like you just described. Wait, but I don't do it. I would get fried pickles much more often than I would get pancakes in that same context. That's fair. Yeah. You probably would. But Brad, I'm not buying this. I think you would get pancakes more. No, I love fried pickles. I'm French toast over pancakes and even a waffle over pancakes. I'm not like a huge pancake guy. I don't get why people like French toast. I don't get it at all. Fried pickles is still the reigning champ. But what about a deviled ham sandwich? How do you plus that up? So it's hard to do something you've never had before. And I've never had a ham sandwich. So keep that in mind. I'm sorry. What? What? Really, the only pork product I eat is bacon. I've never really like and a little bit of pepperoni. You've never had a ham and Swiss. You've never had a Cubano. No, I'm not a huge like ham guy. But I'm not going to pull a Curtis and I'm not just going to like switch it out with a completely different dish because that's not how you play the game. Okay. I'm just going to continue with the devil theme and put a deviled egg in my deviled ham sandwich to just make it even more devilish. That is a good move. I did think about that as an option. That's like the, if now that we know what deviled ham is, that's like the obvious move, but it's not a good move. My answer is much more elegant, beautiful, inspirational. I'm going to add turkey to the deviled ham sandwich. Are you doing deviled turkey or are you just slapping some turkey on top of the deviled ham? I'm treating the deviled ham almost like a spread. Like a, it's almost like the thin layer of mayonnaise, but there's some ham in there. And then I'm just pounds of turkey. I'd give this to you. It's on brand. I don't know if it's a bad answer though. I don't know how that would work together. I'm intrigued. It's an interesting way to cover up some turkey. Huh? Yeah. Huh? I don't know what to do with that. Let me ponder it some more. And I will throw you my idea. I didn't know what deviled ham was and I didn't look it up. Smart. I love ham and I'm one of those people that are correct in like Hawaiian pizzas. So I thought I would throw a pineapple onto my deviled ham sandwich, but it would be a nice grilled slice of pineapple. I get where you're coming from, like ham and pineapple, but gosh. It works. With that much mayonnaise, it just doesn't work. I think it would probably still be fine, but it's definitely not what I was envisioning. I was a little disappointed to find out what deviled ham was. Instead of the letter of the law in terms of what deviled ham is, you went with the spirit of what Frazier showed you, which is a ham sandwich that was just a ham sandwich. Yeah. And I think it would be better either way, but yeah, I would have been nice if it was regular ham. All right. One, two, three. The turkey? Turkey. Did you say that because you don't want to figure out a tiebreaker? No, I took a turkey before you. No, you didn't. Turkey won. Awesome. It's disappointing. A turkey sandwich with some deviled ham. Compare that to fried pickle. Fried pickle. Yeah, I would take the turkey sandwich. No, you just took it with the fried pickle to win, buddy. But I think it also, I would rather have that than just some fried pickle. I would have picked the turkey sandwich if it didn't have all that deviled ham on it. Yeah, you got it, Curtis. You're the man. That's funny. Next up, fish jerky. Ryan, why don't you go first? I love fish jerky. It is really hard to do anything with jerky. Jerky's a standalone item. It just is. It always has been. I'm just assuming that this isn't how it was prepared. The best jerky I ever had, it was super, super thin jerky. That's amazing. Really good. And I've never had anything like it. So I would make it really, really thin fish jerky. I do not like fish. My solution is I'm going to create a nice charcuterie board with all kinds of meats and cheeses. I feel like a little jerky on there would fit nicely. And that way I can promptly ignore the fish part. Have you ever had charcuterie that had jerky on it? I don't think that's ever happened. I feel like it's a dried meat next to a bunch of smoked meats. I feel like that's in the same ballpark. It may not be common, but doable. I'm couth. You would not be welcome back if you brought that over, I think. And it wouldn't be because it's fish jerky. If you brought any jerky as part of a charcuterie board, you would not be asked back. Brad? Yeah, I'm just going to treat the fish jerky like the fish that it is and just cover it with some tartar sauce. Just make it a fish dish. Put some tartar sauce on it. But you're just going to cover it. You trenched that baby. How are you picturing the jerky? You're going to have to lay the jerky down. You're going to have to put sauce on it. Then you're going to have to eat the jerky with a fork and knife. It's not going to be a fun dish to eat. You're going to have to put a lot of work into it. You definitely did this the worst way possible. I'm torn, actually. I feel like on the one hand, all that tartar sauce really drowning out the fish flavor appeals to me. But so does the idea that it's just really thin and probably not that much to eat. You've taken jerky, which is one of the best walking around foods, and you've made it a knife and fork dish. That was a really terrible move. Why didn't you just make it a dip? Hey, Ryan, I haven't lost yet. Is that true? One, two, three. Thin jerky. Tartar sauce. I think charcuterie. I don't like that you made. I don't like either of the answers for the record. We tied. Curtis, what's the plan for a tiebreaker? You know what? I was on the fence. I will pick Ryan's. I will switch my allegiance. And now Ryan is the winner for that round. But I think we're still at fried. Yeah, still picking the fried pickle. So it doesn't matter. Thin fish jerky would be so much better than fried pickle. I do like the idea of Ryan keep winning rounds and then losing to the pickle every single time. So annoyed at this fucking pickle. Final round, pigs in a blanket. I'll tell you what. Another overrated food. The pigs in the blanket. Disagree. I know. It's right in your wheelhouse of foods. It looks cool. The first time you see it, it's a real novelty. It's very, very mediocre. Almost universally. There is one restaurant in Columbus that does it well. We can't say their name because they haven't paid us yet. But if you're at a gastropub here in the Columbus area and you order pigs in the blanket as an appetizer, it might be good. That's the only time you'll ever have a halfway decent pigs in a blanket, though. Have you chased that ad, by the way? Have you asked? No, I didn't go to the restaurant. I'm going, hey, I'm going to talk about you on my podcast. Give me money. So wait, what's your answer? Just their pigs in a blanket? I don't remember why it was good. Just take any dip because almost never has pigs in a blanket come with a dip. But like a nice smoked chipotle dip is usually a good move. Or you can do like a mustard, but dip it. Don't just present me with a pigs in a blanket on the surface. I'm trying to think. Is that like the normal preparation? Is it just that by itself? I feel like it doesn't always have a dip. No, never. Always. Yeah. Sometimes it's just mustard. If you get in a restaurant, you may be. Most of the use case, you're going to go to like a potluck and someone made it and they're like, oh, look, I got pigs in a blanket. You're like, oh, great. And you have one. You're like, oh, this actually isn't that good. I want to really explode this thing. So what I'd like to do. So you're going to pick a new item. Wait, no. I would like to take the pigs in a blanket and turn it into a hog in a sleeping bag. Oh. By that, I mean. Well, I thought that should have just been your answer. Just put a pig in a sleeping bag. I'm in. I'm there. We're replacing the tiny little hot dog with a full size brat. Oh. We're wrapping that. We're wrapping that. In the bacon pancake batter, frying that up. I was there for a minute. I think you were right there. And then you screwed it up. How did I screw it up? The pancake batter. You're once again going for the thing that I said explicitly I don't enjoy. I think pancake batter actually works really well as a like corn dog style batter. Um, okay. It doesn't. Okay. Have you ever done it? Obviously, I've never done it. Have I ever had it? Yeah, it sucks. That's incorrect. Brad, what up? We're still in the game. Oh, that was your whole answer, Curtis? I thought you had more to add. I'm sorry. I mean, he did a big move. It's definitely a shade. Mine is similar to Curtis's, but way better. I just take a regular pig in a blanket. Okay. Clarify pig in a blanket. What? You're saying like the little appetizer or you're saying a regular pig in a regular blanket? No, no, no. Like, what the dishes? I don't understand what you're asking. After Curt introduced the idea of putting a pig in a sleeping bag, I got really excited. Oh, no, no, no, no. That was stupid. You take your pig in a blanket. Then you take a regular already cooked pancake. You wrap your pig in a blanket in the pancake. Then you deep fry that like a pickle. And so you get a deep fried pig in a blanket with a pancake. I feel like you did my thing, but worse. I don't know what a deep fried pancake batter does. That, I don't know if anyone, I don't know if anyone's ever done that. Exactly. I'd be intrigued to try it. I don't think it would be good, but I would be intrigued. We have to vote. We have to vote. Ryan, what was yours again? Uh, dips. Uh, okay. All right. Dips. Wait, we're going to try this thing. Brad's weird thing. I want to try Brad's weird thing. I really don't think it would be good, but I would like to try it. I do not understand Brad's thing. It seems like way too much bread to meat ratio. Yeah. I don't love that you kept the original blanket on. I don't think that was the right move. And I hear you, Curt. But again, we don't know what's going to happen with the fried batter. So who knows? First of all, mine had fried batter too. I'm confused then. I don't think Curt has finished saying his. It's a broth dipped in bacon pancake batter and then fried up. I think you'd never said fried up. You did say something about corn dogs though. Yes. And I think he jumped to corn dogs. Yeah, he did. I'll switch to Curt's answer then. Because I thought you were just wrapping a pancake around. I thought he was too. I would have voted. Yeah. Curtis, yeah, you win this round. All right. So now, final deal. Are we going with fried pickle or hogs in a sleeping bag? I think we only let Ryan vote because he's the one who doesn't have a contender. Oh, great. Oh, interesting. Definitely not the fucking pickle. Fried broth? Is that what it is? Basically, yeah. Deep fried broth versus deep fried pickle. Yeah, I'm actually okay with Ryan's decision. I think you win, Curtis, after me and Ryan shitting on all your other answers. It was nice when you played your own game. This has got to be the grossest county fair that you've ever walked through. Yeah, I think all of our options were pretty tough. Cross the board. I don't think we did a very good job. Are we sorry? I think we're sorry. But I like the concept that if there's ever another episode with 58,000 meals, we'll try it. I didn't even clock how much food there was in this. I feel like this is the normal amount of food they talk about. Well, Ryan, are we going to experience any food in the next season when we cover the previous episode? It's season eight, episode 24, The Cranes Go Caribbean. I'll be honest with you. I talked about it in the episode. I'm baffled of how we get here. I can't conceive of the way we get here. I think we're going to be in Belize for a little bit. I know, Brad, you don't think we're getting any of it, but I think we're going to have some Belize action. I guess Lana's going to do some saucy check-ins with Frasier to see how things are going while Claire and Marty's relationship slowly develops. I don't know. No idea. What if we just never, if this was Lana's only two episodes? That'd be amazing. I would love it. I don't see that happening, but it'd be interesting. Yeah, I think with the title Cranes Go Caribbean, it's going to be hard to imagine we don't get at least some Belize in the next episode. Or they just spend the whole time talking about it. Yeah. It could end with them heading there. That could technically happen. It could happen, yeah. I don't think we're getting the prom stuff here. I think that's going to happen earlier in season eight. Just a heads up, on Paramount+, they for some reason have the penultimate episode of season eight as the last episode listed. So definitely make sure you're clicking on Cranes Go Caribbean. Oh, interesting. Speaking of season eight, we've got a quick announcement. New Frasier was canceled. And while we still want to cover season two, given the quasi-cliffhanger ending of this season, we're going to go back and we're going to pick up with season eight. However, we're going to have to wait because Brad takes summer breaks and he's too busy and he can't podcast. So we'll just have to get back to it sometime in the fall. Let's also hold off on wrapping up season nine until we are ready to start releasing season eight. It'll be a little fresher for folks before the new season. Yeah, that's a good idea. Also, why don't we just do the show without Brad? You know, we could find someone else to take over for him. I could do it. Oh, Dani, have you been there the whole time? Yeah, I'm just not sure how to leave discord. That's good for us because we'd love to have you. However, I am thinking about it and I feel like you never watched Frasier the way Brad did. So I don't know, maybe we should, maybe we should do something over the summer that's more in your wheelhouse. What do you think? You know, I mean, I do have an idea. Ooh, hit us. I think you guys are gonna love this. I think we should do high school musical. Done. Isn't that for children? I'm not sure this is a good idea. Ryan, I said done. It's over. I hope all of you will join us in a few weeks for the premiere of Reverse Psychology Presents a summer movie marathon of high school musicals. That will do it for us. Thanks to Gavin McLeod for our theme music and thank you for listening. I suppose you don't really care if this podcast is successful. You would never take five minutes out of your precious day to go to Apple Podcasts and leave us a review. You don't use Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram, or TikTok. You aren't curious what happens if you search for Reverse Psych Pod. Lord knows you can't be bothered to shoot us an email at reversepsychpod at gmail.com. For myself, for Ryan, for Brad, and for Danny, good morning, Belize. I hate you. I thought it might be interesting to kind of do a very, very kind of lightning round of breakfast foods and just see what we as a group rank. Before we do this, sorry, you're saying that the discussion is going to be a list of food and the end game is going to be a list of food. Pispos, the idea you approved. We all said it was a bad idea and you were like, nope, that works. I was just talking about the one food item. Now you're like, let's do a whole list. We can do the pancake thing if you'd rather go back to the pancake thing. I think that would be better. I think the pancake thing would be better than doing a second food ranking listing thing. Yeah, I don't think we can list foods twice. I just don't think that could be the whole episode. This was your idea. This was not my idea. I approved the bacon pancake or whatever the pancake thing one was. I don't know if we ever got to your question. The question that you pre-approved to have an answer for. No, you went off book. You went to a different question. And then we went to the pre- okay, we can't do this. That's why I wanted to do the breakfast battle thing to start, but it's fine. And then you attacked me for trying to do it. No, that's not what I was saying. No, you wanted to list foods. We wanted to name an item and then we would say if it was better or worse than pancakes. Instead, you took it in a whole different adventure. Yeah, we hated it. Boo, Curt. Boo. You could have said that. I still had a list of breakfast items. I forgot what the original thing was that we were hyped about. We just wanted to yell at you and it was funny. And you did a bad job.
Preserved conversation context
Curtis asks about pancake innovations. Ryan wants people to stop innovating and eat ordinary pancakes. He also dismisses unsuccessful innovations and short-lived pancake-ball novelty, then makes the dry-chicken joke. Curtis tells his own story: applesauce produced bland pancakes, while his husband later made better apple pancakes. Curtis explicitly does not know the method or have a recipe. This opening conversation has no winner or points.

The hosts compare the episode they watched with a transcript describing a different opening. Curtis reports being unable to confirm the discrepancy through his research. Later they speculate about the split two-part release, the next-episode montage and empty-apartment credits. These remain reported observations and explanations, not independently established production facts.

Brad identifies Claire’s actor as Patricia Clarkson, then the hosts discuss her other roles. They enjoy Island Niles, question Frasier’s abrupt breakup and debate Daphne’s sudden attachment to Claire. Curtis revisits the previous discussion of Lana’s husband and asks for an admission that his behavior is poor. The conflicting interpretations remain discussion rather than adjudicated answers.

Brad gives B−, praising some bits and the last scene while finding it weaker than Part 2. Curtis ranks it #59 of 82, above Frasier Has Spokane and below Bully for Martin, and imagines spending more time on Frasier’s introspection in the cabin. Ryan gives five, calling it average and saying he prefers it as a standalone episode; he would rate it lower as Part 1 but supplies no different number. The /10 display follows the established convention.

In the closing announcement, Dani jokes that she has been unable to leave Discord and proposes High School Musical. The group accepts the idea for its summer programming while discussing a break and a later Season 9 wrap-up. This describes the recorded announcement; it does not launch another season, movie run or event.

The post-outro conversation disputes what pancake opening had been approved and describes a better-or-worse-than-pancakes format. The approving voice and which proposal was approved remain unresolved. No second food-ranking game is enacted in this passage.

Conversation excerpt
Brad asks the others to pretend to be lobsters and performs a mock hypnotism song, telling them to sleep and float. Ryan describes putting up little antennas. Brad forbids the lobsters to talk, then wakes them with “Beetlejuice.” The response about having made only a strange noise is defended as following that rule. The complaint that Ryan loses ten points is a joke about prolonging the bit, not a scored contest.
Good morning, Belize.
