Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Frasier Rewatch podcast, where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we're covering Season 9, Episode 17, Three Blind Dates, which originally aired on March 5th, 2002. Is this when C.J. Craig is renamed C.J. Crazy? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curtis Jack. Joining me as always, it's our resident Upside Downer, it's Ryan Sansone. I like the energy. I didn't like your intro, though. It was a little weak. I like the energy, though. I mean, they're not all winners. This one was not. Speaking of not all winners, also with us is our bowling alley artist, it's Bradley Kirkston. Bow, bow, bow. Hey, Curtis, I have one question for you. Yeah. What's next? Oh, boy. This is going to be a strong recourse. I didn't get that at all. You watched the West Wing. It's a West Wing joke. I saw all of West Wing. I don't get it at all. It's like the catchphrase from the West Wing. That President Bartlett would say, what's next? What's next? Here's the problem. Here's the problem, Brad. He didn't listen to all the episodes of the West Wing Weekly like we did. What's next? And watch the show. I think I've watched it through three times. I don't know about you, Curtis. Oh, gosh. I've probably done at least three. Is that a significant thing President Bartlett says? Because I don't remember him saying it one time. What's next? What's next? What's next? And I'm saying, what's next? Almost every episode. He says it a lot, but there's one episode in particular. It's like a flashback to when he was in the original campaign. And he makes a point of saying to all of his new staff, when I tell you what's next, it means I'm ready to move on. So what the fuck is next? He doesn't use the word fuck because it's on NBC, but that would have been fun, though. All right. Well, that was very interesting for our audience. Don't ever do it again. Oh, wait. Oh, Curt, Curt. What's next? There is no next,

Someone brought rules.

Brad Behavior ↗

Curtis and Ryan coach Brad through a hypothetical blind date with an age-appropriate woman, stopping him when they see a misstep. They ask him to answer as he actually would behave. This is a single continuing walkthrough, with revisions and reactions, rather than a points contest. No participant winner is declared.

RESULT STATUS

This one was not a competition.

The source establishes a noncompetitive structured exchange or performance; no whole-game participant winner is inferred.

One date, from meeting to goodbye

The setup settles on meeting at the venue without exchanging contact information unless the date goes well. The coaching proceeds through venue, drinks, conversation, a possible after-dinner activity and the goodbye.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Bowling → Italian restaurant → Abbey Burger

Brad first proposes bowling. The coaches ask him to be serious, and he changes to an Italian restaurant, excluding the Vegas restaurant and Olive Garden. Asked for another cuisine, he chooses a traditional American burger place and names Abbey Burger. The group approves the unusual meats as a talking point; Brad notes tofu burgers for a vegetarian. Whether bowling was a joke remains disputed in the conversation, but the burger venue supersedes it. Ryan says, “That’s a good pick for a blind date.”

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Match the date’s choice about alcohol

Brad would order alcohol only if his date does. At a burger place he would get beer, probably an IPA; any alcoholic drink from her would count. If she orders a nonalcoholic drink he chooses iced tea; if she orders water he probably chooses water too. The coaches call these answers appropriate.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan jokes about dictating the pace

Ryan says he would dictate the pace. Challenged about also ordering dinner for her, he jokes that she would not need to look at the menu because he would take care of everything and she would be charmed. This is Ryan’s counterpoint, not a revision of Brad’s plan.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Curtis on drinking and beer

Curtis agrees that he would not drink alone if his date abstained. Asked about IPAs, he says he dislikes hoppy beer and prefers darker beers such as stout or porter.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Work, Baltimore sports, Kent State—and a redirection

Brad expects his work to come up within two minutes; the coaches object. His next topics are Baltimore sports and Kent State sports, including a deliberately boring sports history and Kent State’s football struggles. Curtis redirects him to movies or TV that his date might relate to. Brad proposes the Menendez brothers. A tangent follows when Ryan confuses them with Aaron Hernandez, before the coaches move on because the conversation has not gone well.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Mini golf if the date keeps going well

After recalling a walk following an earlier date, Brad chooses mini golf. He imagines being terrible, breaking a car window with his putter, or somehow being charming, and says he has never stormed off a mini-golf course. The group initially calls mini golf a solid choice, then questions committing to such a long first date. Curtis suggests drink → dinner → mini golf only as each stage goes well. The advice is to avoid a fixed itinerary.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

A hug, despite the awkwardness

Asked about a welcome romantic gesture, Brad first makes a proposal joke, then chooses a hug. He describes being uncoordinated and uncomfortable with touch. Curtis questions why he would initiate something awkward; Ryan supports his attempt to make a move. Asked what he hopes for, Brad says he wants the hug reciprocated.

There is no next, sir. So in this episode, there is a storyline we're going to get to about a woman who basically has a million dude friends at a bar and she's supposed to be on a date with Frazier, but he just feels completely alienated because it's just her hanging out with her friends, basically. That's part of it. Part of the problem. I have a story that I thought was reminiscent of this experience a few years back when I was still a dating man. You're married now, right? I'm married now. You're no longer dating? No longer dating. Sorry, fellas. I went on this date and this guy brought me to his favorite bar and basically, this is the first date, basically introduced me to all of his closest friends. And we just sort of hung out at this bar with all of us. It was very weird. This episode's implying that she's sleeping with all these guys. Almost outright says it. Yeah, sure. Essentially. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think that was the case here. I think they were just friends, but it was very uncomfortable to be on a date like that. But there was a date too. And on the second day, I jumped to date too. Why was there a date too? You clearly had no fun. Great question. The answer is I was lonely. I don't know. One of those cases was like, eh, I'll give him another try. What would you have rated the date? Like out of 10? A zero? A one? Four? His friends, they weren't like alienating. I would put it like a six. Like it was, oh my God, Curt, what? This isn't the same at all. I was not expecting that. Well, let's see part two. I mean, on a real true scale, one to 10. So like a five would be perfectly mediocre. Like not bad at all, but not good at all. This was like, eh, kind of a fun time, but mostly meh. Yeah. I would say that Frasier did not have kind of a fun time. Well, let's see part two. Maybe it connects. I don't think it will. I'll tell you what, part two is not going to connect to Frasier. I don't think Curt even really watched the episode, if we're going to be honest. I think it's worth telling the story because of the part two. All right. It better be. R1 didn't do it. It is a fit enough connection to Frasier that I felt like I could shoehorn it in here. Really pulling up Brad with these storytelling techniques. We're loving it. If this was Brad telling it, he would have just been done. So date two, we had made plans to watch a movie at my place. You're like, I'm going to make sure none of his friends can be there at all. Well, exactly. That was literally the premise. Like I need to have like a one-on-one date. So he did not have a car. Of course not. The first thing we had to do was pick a movie and he had a bunch of DVDs. So I met at his house to pick out a movie he had on DVD. This is a really weird start to a date at your house. You went to his house. I know. To pick him up and to pick up a DVD. The reason that I didn't just watch it at his house is because he lived with his father. Why didn't you just make him cab over or whatever? Like why? You shouldn't have picked him up. This was a while ago. I don't think Uber was as prevalent that I said cab. You're talking DVDs. I assume this was in the early, early 2000s. Anyway, we get the DVD. We picked Black Swan. Oh, well, it's not a second date night movie, is it? I just heard it was good. I just wanted to say like friends with benefits or something. Yeah, that makes sense. Now Black Swan psychopath. We're going to go back to my place, but he needed to ask his dad for permission. Drop something off with his friend. Oh. We went back to the bar. You went out of your way to make sure this didn't happen and he went out of his way to get you back into that bar. Well, we park and he's like, I just need to drop this off my friend. I was like, great. I'll wait here. And he's like, you can come in. And I was like, you know what? I don't need to come in. You're just doing an errand with them right now. It's super weird. Yeah, it was ridiculous. So he goes inside by himself and I'm thinking this is a run in, drop it off and come back situation. No, it was like a while. Now, why I didn't just drive away at this point, I don't know. Wait, how long is a while? Are we talking like 15 or are we talking like an hour? It felt like an hour. It was probably more like five to 10 minutes or something. Probably six minutes, yeah. But still too long for someone who's on a date with somebody. It was clear he was just hanging out at that point. If you're past the three minute mark, yeah, it's upsetting. I honestly think I had to call him. I called him and was like, hey, are you coming back? On the phone, he's like, you should come inside. And I'm like, I'm not doing that. So I basically, I don't know why, again, I probably should have just bailed. But I think at that point I had like his DVDs in my car and I felt like I couldn't just steal it. You couldn't steal blacks, go on. This whole thing is already just completely off the rails. So we finally get back to my place. Did you have to go in there? No, I did not go back in. Didn't do it. What time? Like, was this like 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock? Good question. Yeah. I feel like it was still a little bit light out. Okay. It was getting dark if I was parked in the parking lot of a bar. Was this weird? Like, was his friend just always there? You know, it really had a cheersy vibe in those, not in the sense that it was cool or funny, but in the sense that he could just show up and know they would be there, which I've never had that situation in my life. And you finally made a connection from the story to Fraser. Good job. Yes, tenuous though it is. So anyway, we finally get back to my place. We put on the movie, turn out the lights. He falls fast asleep. Well, yeah, because all his responsibility was done. So yeah, he had nothing to worry about. At that point, I was grateful. I was like, okay, I can just watch this movie. Like, this doesn't have, there's no pressure to like make out or any of those things. I can just enjoy this movie I've been wanting to see and not deal with whoever this crazy person is that I picked up off the street. It does help that you wanted to see it. Because otherwise, if it was something that you were like, I'll just agree because he was really pushing it, that'd be tough. Was it good? Um, it was interesting. I don't think I'd ever want to watch it again, but I'm not mad that I watched it. I don't think I've ever seen it either. Have you seen it, Ryan? No, it looked fine at best. Here's the end of the story. Well, you had to wake him up. I did, but before I could drive him home, which I had to do. I don't think you had to. You just had to get him out of your house. When he left the apartment, you then go, oh, I got to run back in and grab something. And then you just stay in there. And then he'll leave eventually because he's not you. Instead, what happened was he needed to use the restroom before we left. So I said, it's right there, pointed to it. And he went inside and he sat down on the toilet. Now, why he needed to sit down, I don't know. I didn't investigate that closely. You might be wondering, how do I even know that he sat down? Well, it's because he did not close the door when he went in there. I was like, did you not close the door? And he said, why? Oh, this is not a critiquette. I mean, this is a weird move for anyone on a date. I don't know. Let's say a second. I mean, clearly he knew it was over. But still, if you're not very comfortable with a person, why is an aggressive response? Anyway, fast forward five to 10 years. I'm happily married. You finally learned what you didn't want that night. That's the story. Yeah, it related to Frasier almost none. But it was fun. We appreciate the storytelling. Should we find out what this story is about? Hopefully it's about Frasier. We open with balloons rising over Seattle. Daphne asks Roz to be her maid of honor. Frasier is running off to a date with himself. Daphne, Roz, and Marty scheme to set up blind dates for Frasier and convince Niles to get on board. I thought the premise here was so weird, right? It's because they come out the gate swinging. They're like, we really got to give Frasier a date. It's like, these two ladies are his boss. Like, why is Roz and Daphne want this so badly without like undercutting him in any way? They're just like, we really got to hook Frasier up. I mean, it'll be interesting to see the episodes that precede this because the premise is that he's been on a real dry spell, which I feel like a lot of the last few seasons just hammer on about how he keeps going on these long dry spells where he's not really excited about anybody. Do we see him in a significant relationship other than I think the gym teacher was the only one I could remember until obviously Laura Linney. Nothing significant besides the two you just mentioned. Like they barely take a crack at it in 10 in the front of 11. It rarely comes up at all, which I thought was really weird. Yeah, it is very light at the end of the series on that. But like this episode, they make a big point that like, oh, yeah, he really needs someone. Niles like kind of throws out the idea that he's good and happy and then gets convinced, okay, maybe he isn't. We just don't really explore that too much again until season 11. Well, I'm hesitant to jump to the very end of this episode, but I guess I will because we're talking about it. It is really strange how this whole premise is about we got to get Frasier hooked up with somebody. And the end of this episode implies that it's working out like he does have a connection with a woman. And we never see or hear from her again. Nope. Never gets mentioned. It's really weird. What happened off screen that not only ended that relationship, but ended all of his friends and family's attempts at even trying to get him with somebody? Speaking of things that they talk about, and I'm not sure they ever talk about again. Did we know that Roz was Daphne's maid of honor? No, definitely didn't know that. The wedding happened in a hurry, right? Roz wasn't there. We can presume she would have been, but it wasn't mentioned. Yeah, I was going to say it wasn't mentioned, right? I think the premise that Roz is the call they make to explain like they did it, they got married. I think that makes a little more sense knowing that she was the maid of honor. Oh, look at that connection. It doesn't make sense from the rest of the time we've seen them interact, though. Like I think we talked about it then, like they do not have a lot of on-screen time 10 and 11. I think Roz and Daphne, the only significant scene I can think of that was just the two of them and nobody else in these two and a half seasons we've watched is the scene where Roz is talking about liking the Santa Claus and Daphne kind of making fun of her for it. Yes. Speaking of Roz as maid of honor, I think it's really honestly tragic for Daphne because, again, we've established it doesn't seem like they're that close of friends really. But also when asked to be maid of honor, all Roz can think about is, I was really planning to make some potato salad that day. Like, what the fuck? That was a crazy response. So much potato salad talk. And she doesn't seem solid even at the end of it. I'll make the potato salad the night before and I'll just get some of it. I'll figure it out. Yeah. She's not even like, oh, I'm not going to go to that party. I'm going to your wedding. Like, it doesn't matter. Like, I'm so excited for you. It's literally like, well, I'll figure out the logistics of the potato salad. I won't burden you, the bride, with it. I promise you I will handle this one on my own. But I will need to sort out the potato salad. What's the best potato salad you ever had? Yeah, that silence is correct. There's not like, never is it that amazing. My favorite part about that whole potato salad conversation was Niles' facial reactions the whole time. Like, he did not know how to react. And he was really good acting on his part. It was really great. I didn't notice his facial reactions. Yeah, because you're busy also not knowing how to react. Like, what's wrong with you, Roz? Basically, he just looked at her like he did not know what to say. And like, there would be a couple of times where he went to talk and Roz kept talking about potato salad. Did you imagine if you invited us to your wedding and the first thing either one of us said was like, well, I do a potato salad thing every year on that date. You'd be like, what the fuck? We didn't have a wedding party. We didn't have like a best man or anything. But any of the people I invited to the wedding, if their reaction was, ah, that day, huh? I'd love to come. But gosh, I was planning to make some mediocre white people food. I would be like, oh, OK. Maybe we're not friends. I think you're no longer invited. Yeah, but to be fair to the Frasier universe, Roz is a girl and it's the only one Daphne knows. So obviously maid of honor. Regardless of potato. I think if she would have really stuck to her guns on the potato salad, they would have moved the wedding. Yeah, I think you're right. I don't think we have a choice. Who else does she have in her life? Their hands would be tied. It would be that of Gertrude. So at one point, you know, Frasier's talking about how he's going on a date with himself and he calls himself a terrific date about himself. Would you guys describe me as a terrific date? I know you've never gone on a date with me. We have gone on a date with you, though, because do you remember when we went to Vegas with Brad and he took us to a date night place? And we're like, what is wrong with you? Oh, my God. You did take us on a date. I did. That's true. And I was an excellent date. We traveled to Vegas. Brad, who had been there before, had this great recommendation for us. This is where I'm going to take you. Now, the food at this Italian restaurant was not that great. Might be the worst food we had in Vegas. Correct. The vibe. The vibe was pure date night. We might have been the only three-person table. Under Versa. They're like, oh, you have more than one person. OK, yeah, we can. We'll find an extra chair. So I got a little sleuthing for you, Curt. Ooh, we love a sleuth. Do we have a sleuth drop? We need a sleuth drop. That's on you, bud. A case is rarely elementary, but always evidentiary. Another Crane Boys mystery solved. Yeah, so I guess Frasier was instrumental in Niles and Daphne hooking up. She went out of her way to express that. We've not really heard about it since, but I forget the exact line she says, but she's like, she says pretty explicitly, like, Frasier's the reason we're together. Interesting. Yeah. OK. And it's probably going to happen fairly, you know, in the next two or three seasons, right? We can't answer that question. If we go from Crocktails, like, I think we're, like, pretty close. I'd be shocked if it was four seasons from now when they got together. I forgot you had that whole outline of the show from Crocktails. They laid out a lot of stuff. I just don't, thankfully, I don't go back and reference it often. I don't remember it too well, but, like, they laid out a lot of things pretty well for us. Like, we know for a couple of seasons that Niles and Daphne aren't together. In fact, he's with Maris. We know that. We pretty well panned that episode. And I got to say, as a backwards rewatch podcast, we probably should have been a lot more appreciative. It was helpful. It was very helpful, but it was stupid to do them. It made no sense for the Frasier universe, but for me, it was helpful. Daphne runs out of friends. She does run out of friends because she had to cut off Roz. Daphne runs out of friends eligible for the blind date. Niles has a former patient who would be perfect, but he is concerned about an ethical dilemma. More sleuthin'. Another Crane Boy's mystery solved. Frasier went out with Jennifer. Who's Jennifer? I don't remember, but we know he went out with her. Niles says, here, he went out on a date with your friend Jennifer. I assume it'll be on camera. I don't know. Yeah. Okay. Good luck. All right. Niles is really judgy. Every girl he had a reaction to, and it wasn't nice. Well, there were some reactions that were also not nice, but not judgy so much as ogly. And I do think the way he sort of starts to say he finds these women attractive and then quickly backtracks to, I do not remember them, was quite sly and funny. I mean, it wasn't sly because nobody was fooled by it, but it was funny the way he did it. I'm sorry. I'm trying to remember from a minute. Where are we? They're in the apartment. They're talking about who can we set him up with. And he says, I do have this date. And Niles is like, well, I can't set him up with her because ethical dilemma. And she's like, what if you introduce him to me and all set him up with Frazier? And he's like, yeah, but once you meet Frazier, it's an ethical dilemma again. And then they settle on, uh, I'll just go to her, the bookstore she owns and hope he runs into her. This is a weird plan. Yeah. Like why didn't Roz just go and help quarterback it? That plan was so complicated. Yeah. It was really, really goofy. What I don't understand how the ethical dilemma is solved. I get why him introducing a former patient to Frazier, he would consider a dilemma. He also considers it a dilemma to indirectly introduce them by scheming to have his wife introduce her. But why is it not an ethical dilemma to lead him to a bookstore? Like as soon as I just, I just don't understand how this eliminates the dilemma. He did the mental hurdles and they were, they were tough to listen to in the moment where you're just like, oh yeah, you're really, you're really trying too hard here, Niles. Yes. You might as well just go up and say like, oh, hey, you're my patient. Frazier needs a woman. Did he say former patient or current patient? Former. It was former. Former, right? Yeah. So he has no idea that she's even single. Right. That's a good point. Is it even an ethical dilemma if it's former? Like he doesn't know what's going on with her right now. He just knows some weird stuff about her past. If he was to pounce on that, that would be a problem. We are not ethicists. We do not know what is or is not ethical, but I will say this. It is pretty clear to me that the writers just were trying desperately to set up the scene we get next where he's trying to get Frazier to meet this woman and it keeps not happening. I feel like you should transition on that note. Niles takes Frazier to Lisa's bookstore. He sends Frazier down multiple aisles to push him and Lisa together, but they never successfully cross paths. You know, it was a visual bet. It was fine. It's the old cat and mouse. It's Niles being bad at sports, right? Because you know you got to lead the person. You don't send him to the aisle she's in. You send him to the next aisle. We can. He wasn't talking about sports. He was talking about NASCAR. First off, it's the heroes of NASCAR. That was, I think, maybe my favorite line of the episode. Oh, I really enjoyed the Plantagenes plantains joke. Which I remember, but if I don't, maybe remind me. Frazier wants to get a book about the English Civil War and wants one that goes more depth about the Plantagenets. And he asked the clerk, do you have any books about the Plantagenets? And he says, those are bananas, right? Mm. Mm. Ryan is clearly very whelmed by that joke. You're retelling of it? I kind of got lost in the weeds. You guys started to wander. I think that joke may not be if you may. Right when he walks in, you think it's going to not go well because Frazier's first reaction is not much of a selection. It was a very small bookstore. Wait, I have a question. He doesn't know that he's meeting a girl, does he? No, he has no idea why they're there. Yeah, he's like, Niles, why did you drive me across town for a small bookstore? This is weird. Right. Yeah, I'm just saying, like, you as the audience know this is not getting off on the right side. Got it. That's what you're saying. You're agreeing with this. You're saying it does seem like a small bookstore. I thought it was a pretty decent sized bookstore. Have you ever been in a bookstore? Yes. It's not big. I'm not saying it's big. I'm not saying it's massive, but it didn't seem tiny. Maybe this is big for an outside bodega or something, but what are you talking about? This is a tiny bookstore. There's four aisles and they're small. They're not deep. I gas. What do you gas? You've been in one. You know they're much bigger than this normally. English maker. I felt like it was perfectly normal sized bookstore. If you walked into someone's house and they had this many books, you'd be like, that's, you know, that's a good collection, certainly, but like, it's a reasonable amount of books in one person's house. Again, you know what? At this point, if you were to see the bookstore, please go watch the episode. It's all of our listeners. If you own more books than this bookstore, write to us. Tell Curtis he's an idiot. It's a good one. Reversepsychpod at gmail.com. I also am wondering when he goes to pay, he whips out so many bookseller memberships. Oh, I have book lovers discount. Ah, we don't accept that. Independent booksellers? No. Bibliophiles? Dewey Decimal discount? Dust Jacket gang? Are there so many book member memberships? There's definitely not like conglomerate, but where it's like, oh, this book membership applies to multiple bookstores. First of all, there's only Barnes and Nobles anymore. Correct. I think the first one he said was like independent booksellers. Of America, yeah. It made sense that there might be like some kind of a pact between independent booksellers and they agree to have some kind of shared card. I could buy that. But then he goes about naming like five others in the same vein. And that's very confusing to me. It's very clearly not a thing, but I did think it was funny. It was better than your plantain joke. Not really, no. The worker. Wildly incompetent. Okay. That's a bad sign for, uh, I don't remember if the character has a name, but I know her smelly melly from Scandal. I don't think we get a name. Yeah. I mean, it's a, it's a bad knock on her character because he is a terrible hire for a bookstore or anywhere. First of all, her name is Lisa. I said it in my intro. Did you really? I have referred to her as Lisa multiple times in this conversation. You still do the intros for every scene. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's interesting. I usually just give you a bunch of blocking time so that you know how to edit it. Oh, that's, oh, you talk. Oh, that's crazy. Here's the thing. Scandal. That's where I know her from. She was so familiar, but I couldn't place her. It's weird. This is, I think, two characters within three eps that are from the Scandal and I think even like the Shondaland universe. Yeah. Does Frasier exist in Shondaland? Shonda Rhimes didn't work on Frasier, so I don't know. They're just pulling from the same talent pool, I guess. Then she's dead to me. All right. Yeah. Fair enough. I liked, you know, Frasier's outrage at that point. He's storming off and I liked his threat of, you have an alphabetical misfire, but I'm not telling you where. I thought that was a great thing to yell to a butcher. That is a fantastic, ridiculous, petty-ass bit. And I'm not telling you where. Yeah, it's a very curt move. We get a title card. Bachelorette number two. An overzealous Roz brings Frasier an artist who shows off her portfolio. When Frasier compares her to Benjamin Locklear, she freaks out that he is an art thief and Frasier a dilettante. Marty consoles him over pie and sets him up with a hot lawyer. CJ time. CJ Craig, Allison Janney in this house. Brad, why are you not excited? Are you dizzy again? No, because you ruined my joke. I was a little mad about that. I was about to introduce the character's name and say she was played by former White House Chief of Staff, CJ Craig, but you guys ruined my joke. So, sorry. What was that? Were you moving a desk? I didn't make a Balrog sound. When I say something aggressively or mad, as you guys know, I talk with my hands. So when I said it, I hid my whole computer setup because I was talking with my hands as I was yelling at you two. Was your idea of a joke just acknowledging the biggest role that this actress had? Do you know what jokes are? No, because I always introduce a good answer. You were right in the first time. No is the correct answer. Just keep going. Just ignore Brad. But we get more weird energy from Roz this episode as she goes on and on about Frasier's tight ass. Oh, wait. We got another Roger mention, so he's not out of the picture yet. But also not in the picture because he is still not visible in this episode. Ryan, at this point, do you think we're ever actually going to see Roger? At this point, it'd be really surprising. Okay. I mean, we've had, what, like six mentions of him now with no haven't seen him? In fairness, most of those mentions were post-breakup. This one isn't. Yeah. They're still together. They're not that fair. Actually, it kind of makes sense because I believe the next time that he's referenced, it's they broke up. But this time, he's supposed to be on a date with her, like a double date with her, and he's nowhere to be seen. He is checked out. Oh, do you think they're really trying to do like a big storyline in the background? No, I think if there is an actor who played him, they couldn't get him. But. Oh, fun. Okay. But I do think that it works. From the upside down, it works. I agree there. Unlike Roz in this episode. I don't think she, in this scene, I don't think she works at all. I hate, this is, we've seen this like once or twice before. This, this Roz energy, I hate. I don't think it works for her character at all. I don't disagree with you, Ryan, but think of it this way. This is the most Roz we've seen in an episode since, what, the second episode of the season? Third episode? I don't even get the motivation, like why is she so desperate to have Frasier hook up with this friend? I've got it. I've got it because she, she doesn't know it explicitly, but she is sensing the pull away Roger's doing. And she, instead of focusing on her own failing relationship, is hyper focusing on Frasier and getting him into a love life. She's doing that. That makes sense. I like that theory, but I still don't get why she would push CJ Craig so hard. Because she was trying to prove to Daphne that she could pick a better person for Frasier than she could. Yeah, I think they're trying to do this like competitive thing, but like they don't lean into it much though. Yeah. And why do they care so much about making Frasier happy? Because they could make that the real beeline of the show. Like that could be the real driving force. The competition. Yeah. They only set it up in that early scene and then never revisit that. Yeah. That's a good point. Well, you have to understand if that was in any way, shape or form of focus of the episode, it would require more screen time for the women. So they made the right call. We could have Niles talk about it. They brought a key lime pie. Did Roz bring any potato salad, do you think? I can say key lime pie to the start of a date. I mean, compared to Curtis's weird black swan story, like this is CJ's off to a great start. Stellar start. Just don't talk to her about art and then you're fine. Although, you know what? Similar to Curtis's stupid story. We do see Frasier's dad way too early in the date. Well, that and he says something that kind of surprised me. Not really that excited about key lime pie. Like his reaction is, I can live with that. Like he isn't going to eat it because it's there. I can defend Marty there. He's just saying, like, you know, that's not my top pie. Yeah. He asked for other pies. Yeah. Yeah. He's not saying it's a bad pie. One of the top pies. That's all I'm saying. One of the top pies. It isn't, Curt. Stop. Guess we're starting a pie podcast. Nothing's better than hearing three guys talk about eating pies. That did not sound the way I wanted to. You're not invited to that podcast, Fred. I shouldn't be. I shouldn't be. I do enjoy when they start to fight because, you know, she's offended that he likes this artist that she thinks is stealing her stuff. You're delusional. Dilettante. Forger. Elitist Harvard fascist missed the dean's list two semesters in a row. Yankee jackass. I love when she is insulting him by calling him. Man who uses the word duvet. When she flips, she flips quickly. And that was fun because we don't see that much out of CJ and West Wing. And I haven't watched the mom show she's in, whatever that one's called. It's just called mom. It's called mom. So you got it right. Nailed it. So that flip is not something I'm used to seeing out of her. And it was a little jarring. I had to like step back for a second. But her attack is correct. Yeah. What man would say duvet? I don't even know what a duvet is. I know it's vaguely a blanket. You never saw I, Tonya? She was in I, Tonya. I didn't see I, Tonya. I don't know how to tell you. Poor fucking you. Yeah, she was good at night time. Okay. Here's something that's really embarrassing for a 35-year-old man to admit. That's real. I explained to my mother, like within the last couple weeks, what a duvet is. That is embarrassing. That's not what I thought we were going to say. No, not at all. Huh. How'd you explain it for us that clearly don't know? I said it was a comforter, but you have to get like a giant pillowcase for it. Yeah, essentially. What a nightmare. I hate pillowcases. Putting a pillowcase on a pillow is an absolute terrible time. I got you covered. Next time I'm at your house, I'm going to show you how to put it on. No, I'm really good at it. I can, I'll come over your house right now. Brad, you're not good at doing almost anything in the physical world. I'll put cases on your pillows in a heartbeat. It's a skill of mine. I'll be at your house in two hours. Don't believe you. I'll run. I believe Curtis can do it very well, and it won't translate when I try. I am willing to bet right now that you have two pillows on your bed. Neither one of them has a case on it. The exact opposite. I have like 15 pillows in my bed because I sleep alone because, you know, I'm Brad. You do not have to throw in the alone bed. Real quick, since we've already kind of opened the door to my sad, pathetic love life where I met my husband. Yes, please. The reason I know how to do a pillowcase correctly is I went out with a guy who you met, Ryan. This was the guy who said, oh, that's cute, over and over and over again. Yeah, he was tough. That was like the only thing he said. He was a tough hang. Heard about this. I think I'd be best friends with this guy. You would absolutely hit him. The way I had always done it was just take the pillowcase, try to desperately stuff the pillow in, and shake it until it kind of gets in there. That's the only way. That's the only way to do it. It is not. It turns out there's a much better way, which is that you turn the pillowcase inside out first, grab one end of the pillow with it, and just wrap the pillowcase around the pillow. Works amazing. Doesn't sound right. Yeah, Martha Stewart told me that. I'm like looking around for pillows right now. I think he had two pillows or something, and I was putting on one, and he was putting a pillowcase on one. And I think he watched me desperately try to get this pillow in this case, and he literally said to me, you do not know how to put a pillowcase on? He was very judgy about it. What he did is not the standard. It might work, but it's not the standard move. He treated me like a stone-cold moron, and that was before I introduced him to you. All right. You want to go back to the scene? Are we talking about Frasier? Is the pod still on? We're only on scene four. We're doing a bad job. The art was really mediocre, right? Oh, very much so. I thought that was just implied, but yes. Yeah. All right, next scene. Chris meets Frasier at her favorite dive, where every hot guy knows her name, and she ignores him to play pool. She asks Frasier to get her quarters at the dry cleaners. Is she somebody? I feel like I recognized her. No idea. No idea. Brad, this is your whole job. Just pretend like I know the answer, and I'll get there soon. I'm trying to remember. How did they meet? Because I just wrote a really weird way to meet up. Marty sets him up because she works in the office he's a security guard at. He thinks she's a lawyer. Yeah. Yeah, it turns out she's a legal secretary, I think. It is funny if Marty's like, oh, she's so smart. Like, she's a lawyer. I think that's what he was implying to Frasier. Marty was making a lot of eyebrows. He was like, she is a, you gotta go for it, Frasier. Like, he does not care what she's saying. Yeah, truly. She does say that she is trying to go to law school, but Frasier makes a joke that I just don't understand the premise of the joke. He says to her, Paradoxically, you'll have to pass the bar if you expect to pass the bar. Chris is played by American actress Bridget Wilson Sampras, and the only thing she's really known for is being married to Pete Sampras. Okay. I don't know who that is. He's a tennis player. Oh, I thought rock and roll. Yikes. I think you were thinking Pete Wentz. No, I was thinking older. I was thinking, like, 80s hairband or something. Pete Sampras was an 80s tennis player. 80s and 90s. Yeah. There you go. Pass the bar if you expect to pass the bar. What does that mean? I want to know. Why are you the answer? They mean you can't walk past the bar until you go under the bar. Duh. You don't think they're making, like, a being at the bar joke? Yeah. My only thought is he's saying if you want to pass the bar exam to become a lawyer, you've got to stop going to the bar. But that's a really weird thing to say to somebody at the bar she brought you to. Definitely. The pool thing was weird. Frazier seemed like the awkward father watching his daughter get hit on by a bunch of dudes playing pool. Not quite the vibe I got. I think Chris knows what she's doing. Yeah. I know they kind of imply that she really is trying to be, like, sweet on him or whatever, like, try to engage with him. But I kind of felt like as soon as this old dude walked in, she had all of her buddies around just to be like, hey, man, like, this date doesn't, if I give you the signal, like, and I don't want to be on this date, just surround me with male energy and intimidate this guy till he leaves. Like, I feel like it's, like, a ploy she's employing. That was a fun theory, but it's definitely not how the episode is played. No. She very clearly just is, you know, easy breezy with guys, sleeps with them, and makes friends with them. Yep. Marty and Daphne lament how poorly this blind date scheme has gone. Niles suggests Frazier may be right to leave things to fate. We know that there's no payoff. It's just stupid. I hate to do that. Yeah, the language around fate and then the way the episode points to Lisa as somebody he's actually going to engage with really feels like setting up something bigger to come. But it presents. Frazier gets changed from the dry cleaner when Lisa shows up to get paint out of her jacket. They strike up a conversation and hit it off. I think it's exactly what you guys just said. This scene does not, like, we don't care because we know nothing happens. And I feel like the way this season ended, it would have been great. Wait, wait, wait. I finally looked up the bar line. Okay. That's what you were doing? Yeah, of course. I get the script up. He goes, paradoxically, you'll have to pass the bar if you expect to pass the bar. Exactly what Curtis said. No, it's slightly different. I don't get it. Can you explain it? Okay. I don't understand it at all. Are you on KACL780.net? Is it fucking weird for some reason on your phone? Oh, I don't use it on my phone, but yeah, it's an amazing resource. Yeah, I didn't know. This is really weird. It's got the whole script. This is crazy. Why didn't you just say you were reading the script? Also, you left out the paradoxically part. Again, I don't get any of it still, but like. So anyway, we've moved on. We're on scene seven. Yes. I'm trying to make heads or tails with a strip. I don't get it at all. This is a show called Frasier. It's supposed to be about Frasier, at least to some extent. The amount of like weak episodes we get at the end of this season, I feel like it really would have buoyed the show if they had focused at least a little bit of attention on whatever this relationship would have been. Like it would have been nice to have had her be the Frasier storyline for a few episodes at the end of the season instead of just giving all of the time to Niles and Daphne. Yeah, I mean, we fairly had space for it. I don't know why they didn't take a shot at it. The only other thing I do want to say about the scene that I liked is that they did wrap up the CJ Craig storyline of her going crazy, the scene. I actually didn't like that part because I get that it connects to the rest of the episode. She seemed upset, but in a kind of justifiable, this guy ripped me off and you are being condescending to me kind of a way. Like I got why she was angry to this douchebag on this date she didn't want to be on. But for her to go a step further and start spray painting other people's clothes is that makes her seem like a genuine crazy person. Why are we doing this off screen? Like, why can't I be watching the fun? Why am I watching some people play pool? I think both of you are right. I think I was just more excited to see a storyline have an ending. Well, they're doing like a fate thing for some reason. I don't know. I don't really get it. And they're like, oh yeah, look, the whole thing interweaves. Like, I don't. So what? Oh, you're right. I didn't make that connection that she's only there because of his date with CJ Craig and he's only there because of his date with Chris. I mean, they almost explicitly spelled it up. Sure. Okay. Yeah. I didn't. I just thought that I thought the whole fate point was just saying that he was going to meet her at the end on his own. No, no. I mean, they're tying it together. It's just, yeah, just in a dumb way. Fraser plays this out while going into the bookstore with Lisa and correcting that alphabetizing error. One of the better ones, I think. Right, Ryan? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, top five. It's still. Definitely. We don't need it, but better than some of the bits of the episode. 100%. All right, Brad, what do you think? Was this a good one? I think it's more like a medium one. Like, it wasn't great. It wasn't the worst episode I've seen. I'm never going to remember it. I'm going to give it a B minus. It was fine. Curtis, what do you think? Having this conversation with you both, I feel like that is a deeply appropriate answer. I went with an inappropriate answer. I ranked this 16 out of 66. Curtis, buddy. I really thought this was on the high end. He's been doing that thing lately. He once again is getting lazy. He's putting them all in the 14 to 16 zone now. Yeah. I just, while watching it, really enjoyed it. I feel like I thought, like, I got a real kick out of the banana bit. Brian obviously didn't. I thought it was funny. I thought it connected nice. You didn't even get the connection. What do you mean? You missed the entire point of it connecting. Yeah. No, you're right. I don't know. I just, I thought it was, uh, I enjoyed it while it was on, I guess. I don't know why I didn't consider the fact that this ends and like, it really should hurt the episode that this goes nowhere. This does not lead to anything. But nope, I put it pretty high. Better than Fathers and Sons, but worse than Bristle While You Were. Those are the last three episodes we watched, I assume. No, those are from season 10, I think. Ryan, what do you think? I'm with you, Brad. I think this was a humdrum episode, but I think this is, uh, like closer to the Frasier quality of humdrum than some of the stuff we've seen this season. It definitely wasn't their best punch. They left a lot on the table, but the general quality was good. We just, I don't, they just chose to focus on the wrong things, I think. And Roz was annoying. There was a lot of good in the episode. I think that's where I'm coming from. I think, I think once again, I'm being thrown off by, well, I was going to say the season being humdrum overall, but we had a pretty good run the last couple episodes. So I really have no excuse for being in a good mood about this one. It would have done fine. Like if you slotted in the middle of season 11, just be like, yeah, whatever. If this is the doldrums, it's not bad. Knowing that we're heading to a terrible place at the end of the season, it's, it's a little tougher to reconcile, but I gave it a five one. Yeah. Okay. I agree with your raking, Ryan. Yeah. Like normally, like when I give War of the Words a number one slot and you're all like, that's an insane choice. I defend it. I don't care that you disagree with me. I think I made the right choice. This is one where as I read it, I was like, oh boy, I'm going to have to defend this 16 out of 66. That's, that's a bad spot to be in. Yeah. At least you know. The focus of this episode is a blind date, but we've already covered this topic in our discussion of Frasier 2023 episode six called Blind Date. And there was also another Frasier episode with a blind date. Season 11 had a blind date episode. Are you talking about the MASHmaker episode where he has a bunch of dates? Yeah. And they're all blind dates. I guess that counts. They call them that. All right. There's more than one. It wasn't a blind date, but sure. That was this. That was this. I guess this was also multiple blind dates. Absolute psychopath. Well, so since Frasier is retreading familiar ground, so will we. We are going to revive a segment that we would have otherwise left in the dustbin. It's a new edition of Brad Behavior. Yes. All right. So this, this is the bit that we did in episode 56 of the podcast, The Founders Society. What's going to happen? Brad is going to walk us through how he would act on a blind date with a beautiful age appropriate woman. Oh, I'm genuinely excited. Yeah. What are we saying is age appropriate just for the listeners? Oh, Brad. Tough start. Really? Add five to whatever you're going to say. Whatever your instinct is, add half a decade. Yeah. They're in their third decade, Brad. Got it. Okay. Maybe they're fourth. Oh, okay. All right. I'm still comfortable with the add five rule. While Brad walks us through his approach to the date, Ryan and I are going to jump in and whistle and stop him whenever he makes a misstep, and we're going to coach him on how to adjust. We're not going to whistle, are we? Um, we, I think we should just stop him. Yeah. Brad, take it away. We'll start from, you know, like me asking her on the date. How about that? Hold on. Hold on. Is that how blind dates work? You start by asking a girl out? I don't think the blind dates are set up. We'll be communicating with her. Okay. And I would, I'll have a number, but I wouldn't have a name or a picture. Okay. Actually. Yeah. Before we get into this, how do blind dates usually work? You get set up by a friend. Yeah. But sometimes you get connected. In the modern world, absolutely. You would get some kind of contact info. So I feel like in the tradition of a Frasier blind date, you are meeting at a restaurant or you, in fact, you should tell us where the meeting place is, but I think you just meet. There is no exchange of contact info unless the date goes well. Yeah. So that's easy answer. Being a true American, where do you go on your first date? You don't go to a restaurant. You don't need to feed the person. You're going to go bowling. You're going to go bowling. Stop. Stop. I want to say play this seriously, but I don't. Is that your serious answer? I do not. You guys wanted me to be more funny on the show. No, no, no. We want you to say it exactly how you would actually do it. I don't think it's going to be as funny. I do. Try it. Yeah. I'd go to a nice restaurant, probably an Italian restaurant. We'd sit down. I'm going to stop you right there. Is it that horrible Italian restaurant in Vegas you took us to? It would not be. It would be, and it would not be an Olive Garden. It wouldn't be an Olive Garden? You have to specify that? Yeah. I don't like that you threw that in there. No one was thinking that. I do not trust your taste in Italian restaurants. Pick a different genre of restaurant. That's a good call. Carrabba's is not off the table. Carrabba's is off the table. If I have to change, I'll go just your traditional American burger joint. Do you mean McDonald's? No, I've taken you guys to nice burger places. No, you haven't. Abbey Burger was good. You like Abbey Burger? I don't know what you're talking about. Is that the Australian place? You did get Australian meat there, yes. I don't remember this at all. They have exotic meats. Yeah. What was it? Kangaroo. Kangaroo. Kangaroo Burger. Okay, you know what? I like that. That's a good pick for a blind date. Yeah. Because then you got a talking point no matter what, right? Well, especially if she turns out to be a vegetarian, then you got a real talking point. They got tofu burgers. Isn't it bad? I feel like I remember it being not as, like it was fun that you get any meat. I think we had a good time. I feel like it just tasted like a burger. It didn't really taste like anything different or special. Okay. But there was a novelty to it. I think it was a strong pick. Yeah. Worst case, you get a vegetarian. Whatever. You're doing fine on that. Yeah. Go ahead and keep going. If the date orders alcohol, I'll order alcohol. But if she does not, I probably will not order alcohol. Ooh, that's an interesting move. That is a shockingly appropriate thing for Brad to say. But Ryan, you seem shocked as if it was a bad move. So tell me more. I think I'm dictating pace, you know? I mean, I don't know. I guess they would ask her first. She could be a recovering alcoholic. It's a blind date. You don't know anything. We're going to rip that bit off right away. Maybe I should do this. Hold on. Hold on, Ryan. I'm upset by your premise there. You're saying that you're going to set the pace on what we're drinking? Are you also going to order her dinner for her too? The lady will have a salad. Yeah, of course. I'll be like, you don't even need to look at the menu. I'll take care of everything. And she'll be charmed. Brad, should we be having Ryan run through this scenario instead? Is he the one that needs coached? I never went on dates, right? Like, I am fascinated to get into this world, you know? All right. We're going to keep going, Brad. But we might have to circle back and try Ryan's hand at this. So wait, Curt, do you agree with this move? Do you only order alcohol if the other person does? Absolutely. Yeah. I'm not going to be solo drinking. If I did order a drink at a burger restaurant, I would probably get a IPA. That's a weird specification. Do you like IPAs? I do like IPAs. I'm an IPA guy. I like IPAs, but it's weird to call that out. If it meant getting that weird noise that Curtis just made anytime you and I said IPA, then it's worth it. Curt, do you like IPAs? No, I do not like hoppy beer. It's a beer. Primary ingredient hops. I like the darker beers, like a stout or a porter. I do too. I'm just playing. But it's a tough with the burger move. So I think that's what you're trying to go for here, Brad. Yeah. Is it if she orders beer or if she orders any alcohol? Any alcohol. Any alcohol. But I would just get beer at a burger place. I think that's fine. Here's my question. So let's say she orders a non-alcoholic drink, like a soda or a mocktail. What are you getting? I love iced tea. So I'm probably going iced tea. I'm a big iced tea guy. That seems appropriate. Okay. She gets a water. If your first move is a mocktail, I'm out. I'm leaving. Probably water as well. Oh my God. Ryan, he's doing shockingly well. And I'm concerned this will not be fruitful. He seems to be doing okay. But let's keep going. Maybe we should do a blind second date because we know they don't last. I wanted to give a crazy bowling answers. You're doing like a parody thing here and I don't believe it. I'm not sure I'm buying this. We know something's wrong with Brad. And we have to find out what. The things you're saying is okay, which is surprising. Let's talk about the conversation. What are the kinds of topics you would want to kind of lean into or bring up? It's a good question. I mean, just knowing me two minutes into the date, my work's going to come up. So I'll get that as an example. Oh, stop. First of all, your work, not interesting. Let's start there. You should avoid that at all costs for a while. And you sound really inappropriate when you talk about work a lot. You do. Then why is it the first thing your mind goes to? Here's nothing else. Thank you. I would rather you go into sports, personally. And I don't think it's a good move. Second thing, Baltimore sports. This is what we're looking for, Curt. This is it. Baltimore sports. What is like the rival team for, say, the Ravens? It is, Brad. So he's talking to a Baltimore person about Baltimore sports. But, you know, whether or not she's interested. Yeah, you're right. There won't be any chance at it being a non-Baltimore person. It would be funny if Brad was just mansplaining Baltimore sports teams to this lady. Like, that would be kind of funny. But what do you even say? That's not what I would do. I would give a boring history of Baltimore sports that nobody cares about. In 1950. Why? In the Baltimore Orioles moved here from Milwaukee. I mean, despite your accent, I think this is genuine. Yeah, I don't think this is like the bowling alley. I think this is a real attempt at an honest answer. I think the bowling alley was a real attempt for the record. I think that was a real first thing he was thinking. In 1996, the Ravens moved here. Ever since my wedding in a bowling alley, he associates it as a romantic place. I could have had a whole bit, but you guys took that away from me. Could you have, though? Sure. I guess the third topic. This is probably actually the first topic because, again, like Curtis pointed out, what else do I have to talk about? And Curtis and Ryan will 100% agree with me. Kent State University sports. Dude, you gotta... What the fuck? You gotta move on, man. We graduated 15 years ago. Also, there's nothing interesting. Like, it wasn't interesting then and not interesting now. What would you even say? First off, you know we were the worst team in college football this year. So how's that not interesting? Is that true? It's actually 100% true. Not a joke. Still not interesting. We lost to a Division II school, Ryan. Oh, boy. Stop talking about sports. I think you need some kind of a small talky, like, conversation starter. Like, talk about movies or TV shows you've been watching. Like, something that they have any chance at relating to. I mean, if they're into sports, fine. I got it. Just watch the Menendez Brothers talk. Everyone loves talking about the Menendez Brothers. Jesus Christ. Do you know who the Menendez are, Curt? Yeah. Do you? Why would I not know? They murdered their parents or whatever. He's not wrong. Is that right? What do you think they are? I mean, he was a sports guy. I didn't. They murdered their parents? I'm like, oh, my God, Ryan. Who are you talking about? Are we talking about Aaron? Oh, Hernandez. Oh, I don't know the Menendez Brothers. Sorry. I don't know who you're talking about. Oh. I thought you were talking about Aaron Hernandez. No. No, you're the worst. You're the worst. Who are the Menendez? Oh, my God, Ryan. Don't worry about it. Okay. We need to move on because the conversation has not gone well. So how about an activity? You talk about bowling, but would you have any kind of like post dinner, go for a walk? What would you do? What would be your like, let's go do something after dinner? Genuine question before he answers. It's normally just go for a walk, right? Like, do you really usually have activities lined up? I was trying to feed him an answer there. We'll see what he comes up with. I did once go on a walk with a girl, and you guys know this girl, and it did not go well. We went on a walk on the track after our date. That's a college thing, because otherwise walking on the track is so weird. Of course. Absolutely. If you're like in a dollar, you're like, oh, let's go to the high school track or college track. It'd be so weird. And what he would do. Too many I would go. I'm not the best at sports, but sometimes I'm good. We're going mini golfing. Oh. Mini golfing is a solid choice. No chance you're good at it, though. There is a version of Brad that could be charming in being bad at mini golf. I'm not saying that's the version of him that we'll get, but that is possible. What I was going to say is either two things will happen. I will be horrifically bad. I will end up breaking the car window with my putter. It will be bad. Not even break the girl's teeth. Yeah, it would be bad. Or I would be weirdly charming, for no reason. It's hard to picture. It's hard to draw. I think it's possible, but I think it's much more likely that you would just get really frustrated about being bad and take it way too seriously and get a little bit aggressive about how mad you are at this mini golf. Also could be true. Have you ever stormed off of a mini golf course? No. No. You're a stormer. You like to storm out of this. I do, but I know. No, never mini golf. I'll have to try it one time. No, no. No. This might be safe. This might be a good move. It might be a good move. Do you do the post-dinner mini golf? I feel like that's a pre-dinner activity. I don't know. I don't know either. I feel like, and Curtis, you can disagree, a lot of times first dates, at least that I've gone, tend to be lunch or more midday things. So I don't know. I think first date mini golf is aggressive because that could take a while, right? You could be there for a minute. I think this is like you probably would meet for a drink. If it goes well, you get dinner. If it goes well, you go to mini golf. Yeah, I think you're probably right. You don't go into the date with an itinerary. That's a long first date. Yeah. Going well. Yeah. Okay. Let's wrap the date up. Do you have any kind of, again, assuming you've read correctly the signals and it feels like it is going to be welcomed? Do you have a romantic gesture that, you know, a holding hands or a kiss or what would be your romantic gesture at the end of the date? Yeah. I would go down on one day. I'm just kidding. I'm here to stop it. Go down. I know. Obviously, you wouldn't propose to her. But like, I feel like you would make that joke because you're a psychopath. Okay. So what I would do is I would go in for the hug. But as you both know, I'm so uncoordinated. My hands look like two octopus limbs. You know what, though? Like, you don't like getting touched. I don't know if I've ever seen you hug anyone. I don't. I assume it's so awkward. It is very awkward. It is very, very awkward because I'm uncomfortable because I don't like the touch. Let's stop. Why? Why are you going in for a hug when you know you're going to be uncomfortable and awkward? He's trying to make a move, Curt. He's trying to go for the swim move. Thank you. Thank you, Ryan. I'm here for you, Brad. I got you. It's not going to go well. What is your endgame? For her to say she had a good time? Oh, no. Well, like when you go and awkwardly hug, she's going to be like, why is an octopus attacking me? Exactly. Reciprocate the, reciprocate the, reciprocate the hug. Okay. Recipro-what? Reciprocate the hug. So we've heard Brad's attempt at a blind date. It went surprisingly not as disastrous as we would have guessed. There's execution bits in there that we're like, I would have liked to have seen. I don't think it would have played out that way. This is the problem. This is the problem with this entire segment is like saying you're going to do something is very different from actually doing it. He would be bad at most of those sane sounding things. But, Ryan, why don't you tell us what to expect next week when we cover the previous episode of Season 9, Episode 16, Wheels of Fortune. Wheels of Fortune. Frasier meets Sajak or it's roulette as one of the two. That's all I got. Well, we'll find out next week. That's going to do it for us. Thanks to Kevin MacLeod for our theme music and thank you for listening. I suppose you don't really care if this podcast is successful. You would never take five minutes out of your precious day to go to Apple Podcasts and leave us a review. You don't use Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram, or TikTok. You aren't curious what happens if you search for Reverse Psych Pod. Lord knows you can't be bothered to shoot us an email at reversepsychpod at gmail.com. For myself, Ryan, and Brad, buenas noches a todos. Not just you as well, Curt. We need a sleuth drop. That's on you, bud. Actually, Brad, do you want to do an audio drop that Curt won't use? Here we go. Sleuth drop. What the? Oh, my gosh. Upsetting. Huge regret. Why did you go snake with that? Sleuth, snake is close. What? You could have gone sloth. I don't know what a sloth sounds like, but, you know, silence is fine. I'll try one more. Here we go. Okay, you're done.

                                      An awkward real date

Curtis recalls a first date at a bar among the other man’s friends. He rates that date six on a true one-to-ten scale, describing a partly fun but mostly mediocre experience, then recounts what followed. That six is a personal-date assessment, not his Frasier episode rating.

                                      The inside-out pillowcase method

A pillowcase tangent describes turning the case inside out, grasping one end of the pillow, and wrapping the case around it. The conversation returns to the episode without a measured task or winner.

                                      A bar-exam line remains puzzling

The hosts look up the line “paradoxically, you’ll have to pass the bar if you expect to pass the bar,” but end the tangent still not understanding it.

                                      Three different assessments

Brad gives B−: medium, fine and forgettable. Curtis ranks it #16 of 66, enjoying it while watching but conceding that the unresolved story should have hurt his ranking. He places it above Fathers and Sons and below the episode named in the transcript as “Bristle While You Were.” Ryan gives 5.1/10, describing a humdrum episode with generally good quality and missed opportunities. Curtis’s earlier six-out-of-ten date anecdote is not an episode score.

This is an episode assessment or ratings-history summary. Ratings and any accompanying Council/scale banter remain intact; the composite summary is not a separate recurring interruption or game.

                                      A surprisingly less disastrous plan

The coaches say Brad’s attempt was less disastrous than expected, while stressing that saying what he would do is different from executing it. This is qualitative coaching feedback, without a score or winner.

Native source ownership and the preserved excerpt locate this record within a question/activity, its contributions, wrap-up, or retrospective context. It supplies no independent recurring comic-bit occurrence.

Brad’s introduction leads to a West Wing catchphrase discussion. The group explains President Bartlet’s “What’s next?” as a signal to move on. This opening exchange is separate from the later date walkthrough.

After the outro, Brad is asked for an audio drop that Curtis will not use. He performs a “Sleuth drop,” provoking “Upsetting,” “Huge regret,” and Ryan’s “Why did you go snake with that?” Brad announces one more try, but no second vocal drop is audible before “Okay, you’re done.” This closing task is separate from Brad Behavior.

                                      Two sleuthing observations ↗

During the recap, Ryan makes two sleuthing observations: Daphne says Frasier is the reason she and Niles are together, and Frasier once dated Jennifer. The hosts discuss what these clues mean in their backwards watch. These are recap deductions, not competitive game turns.

                                      Ryan predicts Wheels of Fortune

Ryan offers two possibilities: Frasier meets Sajak, or the story involves roulette. “That’s all I got.” No outcome is verified here.
