Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Fraser Rewatch Podcast, where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we're covering Season 9, Episode 11, Bully for Martin, which originally aired on December 11th, 2001. Is this episode about a security guard and not a doctor? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curtis Sheck. Joining me as always, it's our resident upside downer. It's Ryan Sansone. Curtis, liking the fire there. I assume you're as excited as I am to bully an old. Let's do it. Let's bully a fucking old. And to help us do that today is our bodyguard. It's Bradley Kirkston. I'm pretty confident that is the nicest thing you've ever called me and I'd be such a good bodyguard. It'd be the worst case scenario for a bodyguard. You can't guard your own. I would serve and protect that person that no one would get through me. I would hire you as the bodyguard of my target, like whoever I was trying to take out. Oh, I thought you were going to say you'd hired me to be an assassin. I was like, that's really nice of you. Saying sick. Yeah. I would just tell you you're bodyguarding that person. If anybody needs security advice, it is me. I did, you know, much of my life oversee security companies. So I'm kind of an expert when it comes to security. So you genuinely were like the security team of your work, right? I supervise the security team. Yes. Really insane. Two companies that we use for both buildings. I oversaw the contracts and the relationship. Absolute negligence to whoever hired you. Well, before we go any further, I just want really quickly to wish my father a happy birthday. Today, when this is released, is his birthday. Happy birthday, dad. Happy birthday. It's not really part of the pod. He's just being nice to his dad. My mom will hear this in about six months when she catches up and then she will pass it along to him. When is this airing, Curtis? April what? April 8th. So you will already be 36. Happy 36th birthday, Curtis. Thank you. Yes. I would have celebrated my birthday just a week ago. Last up, you didn't give us the thing where you're like, oh, I'm having a birthday in a bunch of months. Excuse me. Last up was April Fool's Day. My birthday is the day after. So it would have been premature to mention my birthday on that episode. Insane. Well, guys, in this episode, we get this brief moment of tension between fancy, pretentious Frasier pizza and kind of simpler, normie, Marty pizza.

Someone brought rules.

The games, the premises, and what everyone brought to the table.

Curtis asks what lie Frasier should give Marty after the restaurant excuse fails. Brad, Curtis and Ryan each offer three lies. Together they place each in an unused slot from one to ten: ten is least plausible, and lower numbers are better excuses. The lie should explain whispering and end the call quickly; getting Marty out of the building can help too. These are ranks in an ordered list, not contestant points. After nine entries, all three propose a finalist for the remaining number-one slot.

Round 1: wine, whispering and rioters

Three owned proposals receive distinct, locked list positions.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: wine tasting with Seattle’s mayor — #8

Brad settles on being at a wine tasting with the mayor. The others question why that requires whispering or answering the call at all. Ranks seven and nine are proposed before eight is settled.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Curtis: a club devoted to whispering — #6

Curtis invents an exclusive social club practicing the art of whispering and says this is how he talks now. It explains the quiet voice but gives no reason to end the call. Six wins out over seven.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: rioters within earshot — #4

Ryan claims to have passed rioters, asks Marty to bring five friends and meet him at Fifth and Crane, and characterizes the crowd as meek and docile. The proposal could draw Marty out of the building. Its initially accepted five is revised to four.

Round 2: calories, police and a retreat

Three owned proposals receive distinct, locked list positions.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Curtis: whispering burns calories — #3

Curtis says he read that whispering burns more calories and is trying it. It explains the voice but could leave Frasier talking in the closet. With four already used, the group chooses three.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: pulled over by police — #2

Brad initially asks Marty to come help after a traffic stop. The discussion adopts the simpler interpretation that he cannot talk because a cop is there. One is proposed, but the group reserves it and assigns two. The unnamed restatement is not treated as a new owned submission.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: a “pray the gay away” retreat — #10

In a fictional excuse, Ryan says he is at a spa and retreat, in prayer and unable to talk, adding that he is staying on the straight and narrow as Marty taught him. The group calls it too long and likely to backfire. It takes ten.

Round 3: movie conspiracies, Gollum and basketball

Three owned proposals receive distinct, locked list positions.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: undercover because movies are real — #9

Ryan claims Marty’s theories that movies are documentaries are true, citing E.T., Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The others think it would provoke more questions and prolong the call. It takes nine.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Curtis: rehearsing Gollum — #7

Curtis claims to be rehearsing Gollum for a community production of The Hobbit. The others debate whether Marty would already know and whether hearing about a play would end the call. An audition variant is floated but not established as replacing the rehearsal, which survives in the recap. It takes seven.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: an extra Supersonics ticket — #5

Brad says he is at a Seattle Supersonics game, Niles cannot come and Marty should join him. The group likes the idea of getting Marty out, but calls the execution sloppy. With only one and five open, it takes five.

Final vote: the number-one slot

All three propose one final option. Curtis’s bet is eliminated. The decision favors Ryan’s request for a ride because it can move Marty out of the building, rather than merely quiet the call. Ryan wins this final selection. Curtis announces the final selection. A complete individual vote tally is not established.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Curtis: a whispering bet

Curtis says he bet Niles he could whisper for twenty-four hours and is winning. The group takes this option off the board.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: thrown out of a silent movie

Ryan says speaking got him thrown out of a silent movie and asks Marty to pick him up at Fifth and Crane. This becomes the number-one lie.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: a psychology lecture

Brad proposes being at a psychology lecture and needing to whisper. It is praised as plausible, but rejected in favor of a solution that gets Marty out.

Title: liar, liar, pants neatly folded in the closet Activity premise: When Marty asked a closeted Frasier why he was whispering, Frasier lied that he was at a restaurant. But what would Frasier's next lie be if Marty didn't accept it? Activity request: Each of us will go around presenting a lie to tell to Marty. Rules: We will then rank each of these based on the quality of the lies between the numbers 1 and 10. However, we cannot reuse any numbers. That means that we are locking in the order in which we will tell lies to Marty. Scoring method: 10 is like the least plausible. This is a power rank. And I want to know where you stand. Do you like basic bitch pizza or do you like that fancy, exotic pizza? I am very simple with my pizza. I really only like three toppings of my pizza. But my go to number one, I like pepperoni and banana peppers. I thought you were just going to say bananas. Wouldn't it surprise me? I don't think that it's too, like, pretentious or too fancy. Oh, yeah. Obviously, it's not too pretentious. And I don't even care what type of pepperoni. It can be thick pepperoni. It can be thin pepperoni. It can be large, you know, circular pepperoni. It can be whatever type of pepperoni you want. Hold on. What pepperoni are you getting that's not circular? Well, you know, like a perfect... Like classic square cut pepperoni. Yeah, square cut pepperoni. Whatever works. You've seen the pepperoni that turn into a little cup of grease. This is a pepperoni that turns into a little box. So that's like if we have a large group of people over and I don't want to ask everyone what they want, go through that rigmarole. Pepperoni, banana pepper is mostly a safe choice unless you have that one person who, like, sneezes whenever they get in your pepper. Like, they say, oh, my face is melting from this banana pepper. Or, you know, or if it's children. Or someone that just, like, overreacts to banana peppers and act like they're so spicy. It's like, come on, man. That's the same people that are like, oh, why'd you put too much pepper on that? Yeah, true. This surprises me because I love pepperoni and banana peppers. I think it's a great combo. But I feel like I come from a family that would look at that as some kind of spicy mistake. I think that's why I like it. You don't have to share it with the shucks. No, my parents are big pepperoni people and stuff. So I think that's why I love pepperoni and banana peppers. Like, because they didn't grow up with it. Your family didn't like pepperoni? Is that what you said? No. I've never heard anyone say that. My parents grew up kosher. So there's some things they've, like, continued. And so they don't eat a lot of pork products. You don't keep kosher, so what? No, I don't. How is pepperoni the one that didn't make the cut? Pepperoni's fantastic. Brad has already said he likes pepperoni. It's his parents that are... Like, do your parents do bacon? No, no, no, no. No, they don't do any pork stuff. That's what I just said. That helps what? Yeah, I said they don't eat any pork things. I think they said some. I don't know. I was only half listening. What do you want from me? I think they got to give it a shot, you know? So, Brad, you're kind of under the more simple, straightforward pizza. You're not going for, like... If pepperoni's exotic to you, then yeah, this is... Sure, you're getting a little wild here. Ryan, what about you? I feel like you would go for a really fancy pizza. I mean, if you think I'm turning down a pepperoni pizza, you'd be insane. I will eat most pizza. You'd have to really butcher it. How about this question, Ryan? Is there anything you don't want on your pizza? And this probably would be good, but if you've guessed inside out, they moved to California, San Francisco, and there's a pizza shop that only sells broccoli and cheese pizza? No. No, thank you. You say no, but, like, it's probably really good, right? Like, broccoli cheddar soup's fantastic. I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of veggie pizzas, because I think there's too much veggies on them, and I think it makes it too heavy. I think if you're not going to get meat, like, mushroom pizza's great. Yeah, I was going to go to that. Or even, like, green pepper. But, like, adding more than one vegetable is a recipe for disaster. If mushroom counts as vegetable, because that's, like, right in the dicey territory, then you can make mushrooms taste almost like steak. Like, I've had an incredible mushroom pizza. If you were to choose your favorite pizza to get, is it, like, a classic pepperoni, or is it, like, a fancy gruyere pizza or something? Something with, like, weird, unusual, like, high-end ingredients. If you've ever had, like, I think it's pear and brie, that's a really good pizza. But I think my go-to, if you ever go to, like, those make-your-own-pizza places, I like getting barbecue-based pepperoni, of course, like, your red onion, throw in some anchovy, which, for some reason, everyone hates. Anchovy. I don't understand. Anchovies are fantastic. I like anchovies. I don't know if I've ever had them on my pizza, but I do like anchovies. The only place most people have had them. Greek salad. Where? I own Greek salad sometimes at fancy Greek restaurants. Never once heard of that. What are you talking about? Have you ever gone to a fancy Greek restaurant? I don't think those exist. I have a drive-thru Greek restaurant. Are you talking about that? No. That's awesome, though. It is awesome. Will you answer the question, though? I was answering it. I think I answered it. Fancy. You're going to leave. Is that fancy? I don't know if it's fancy, right? Like, but it's good. Pear and brie is decidedly fancy. I just said that's good. I recommend, if you haven't had pear and brie, you see it on a menu, get it. It's going to be better than you're expecting. That's not my go-to. My go-to is the one with the anchovy barbecue sauce. I think that's also exotic. Yeah. Exotic, but not fancy. When I'm craving pizza, it is for a pepperoni or a sausage. It's for a classic style pizza. We all have garbage tastes. Like, we're not a fancy group. But also, if you meet someone and they say, I don't like pepperoni. Not I've never had it. That's a different thing. But if they say, I don't like pepperoni, I'd be like, what's wrong with you? Who hurt you? So, okay. We're all kind of on the closer to the regular plain Jane pizza. But what would you do to fancy up your kind of go-to order? I don't think I need to fancy up the banana peppers, but I think get rid of the pepperoni and I do prosciutto. That's what I think I would do. Love prosciutto. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good choice. Ryan? I thought we were doing the Frasier thing. I wrote confusing names so you guys would be confused. You've tried to obfuscate your regular ingredients by calling them something fancy. That's right. That works for Ryan because Ryan's was already fancy. So I think that's smart. Right. I have jambon with achuchet and peijon vidalia's with a saccharine tomato-based glaze. This is amazing because you're trying to fancify the pizza, but you're using the most, like, hillbilly American doesn't know how to say French words accent on me. I'm more Italian. Thank you very much. I'm sorry. I think your people call it I-Talian. So what do you think it was? Because I know you know middle America accent. Did I hear you say jamone? Is there ham on this thing? I didn't say that, but there is ham on this. It's a jambon. Yeah, I think you pronounced the J. I don't think you're supposed to. Oh, you're not at all. Jamb. Ja. I'm saying it with, like, a... You don't know what I'm saying. Ja. Give me the ingredients again real quick. Jambon achuchet with peijon vidalia's and a saccharine tomato-based glaze. You've got ham on a gay? What was that? Achuchet. You gave ham at that gay. Got it. Achuchet. Achuchet. There's been an Italian word and I'm really... It's really destroying. Much people would be upset with me. I don't know what that is. What... You said you had a... A sweet sauce? A saccharine tomato-based glaze, yes. Oh, oh. Is this, like, a Hawaiian pizza? No. There is ham on it, though. There was ham, anchovies, onion, and barbecue sauce. That's what Google told me I could say for all of these things. Oh, oh, gotcha, gotcha. All right. Well, that was good. Curtis? One of the pizzas I absolutely love, I don't think this qualifies as, like, fancy pizza, but it is unusual. I love a chicken bacon ranch pizza. Yeah. Maybe I should have done Ryan's thing and just given you the fancy version first. We also... That's what we're doing. I thought it was the whole thing, then. To recreate this in a fancy way, I think you would add smoked pheasant. Okay. Oh. Pancetta and a garlic chive creme fraiche. It does sound good. I would try it. It sounds pretty good. Chicken bacon ranch is definitely, like, the right default, but I... The last, like, ten times I've got it has been disappointing. So I gotta... Maybe I gotta try it with smoked pheasant. Well, should we try this episode with smoked pheasant? That's not a transition, but... Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's do it with smoked pheasant. Yeah. Yeah. We open with the Seattle Skyline. Roz tries to cheer up a sad sack on the radio by rambling about Roger. Frazier pretends to be on the phone with Marty to get rid of her annoying ass. Frazier's at least 40. Roz at least isn't. Big news. Big update. Did they establish that? They did. I mean, they didn't explicitly say it. No. The way the conversation went. It certainly implies Frazier's in his 40s and that Roz is not. Roz is the more questionable one, but she implied he's significantly older. Yeah, significantly older, which could be a couple years. It's Roz and Frazier. But it all becomes because of Terrence, who's on the radio, who's played by American actor Andy Garcia. Oh, who is that? That's a name I definitely know and don't know the person. You ever seen Ocean's 11? Yeah. He plays the owner of the casino they're robbing. I'm only getting Al Pacino. That's the only one that's coming out. That's Ocean's 13. Yeah, yeah. I know it's the wrong movie. I'm just telling you what's happening right now. So Terrence says that he's almost 40 and single. Does that remind you of anyone? Yes. Okay. I'm not going to name names. I don't want to implicate anyone. Is he one of the co-hosts of this podcast? He's somebody I talk to too frequently. I'll tell you that. Got it. Did this resonate? Did you take all of Frazier's advice to heart? I immediately caught into a talk radio show. Why? I don't think Terrence was helped by this exchange. Instead of going into a psychiatrist on the radio, you just called into like the zoo crew. Started unloading your problems. I called Howard Stern. You should do that. I would listen to that for sure. I called into a sports show. I was like, I don't want to talk about the Eagles. I want to talk about my terrible dating life. Which sports show would you do? Just to annoy Curt. Oh, Stephen A. Smith. Obviously. Ah, there's a callback, Curt. You have to leave it in. Suck it. I'm not condoning it. How do you guys feel about all the Roz loves Roger talk? I'm over it. So you're in the plot of the episode. I think that before this episode, we knew he was a truck driver, right? Or was this when we found a garbage truck driver? Garbage truck driver. Yeah, we did. Because they went to Wisconsin. That's what I thought. Okay. I'm honestly shocked that we got this much of talk about Roger and never once have we seen the guy. At this point, I don't want to see him. The reverse storyline is so much better than the regular storyline, right? With Roger, yes. This building, him being so annoying. If we got to meet him as the last Roger act, that would be incredible. That'd be like a well-told story. So we're getting where the fuck this is. I don't know how you would stomach this right way around. The fact that they're annoyed by him here and then we get 10 more episodes of him is crazy. Did you see Roz's R necklace? I didn't catch that until this episode. And it took me a second to watch. But do you see she's wearing an R around her neck? Like some bling? Yes. I've seen it in other episodes, actually. I never really thought of anything of it. It's very blingy. I think presumably it stands for Roger, I'm guessing. But if it stands for Roz, that's also crazy. Like it's a bad look either way. Well, I think it's because, you know, this episode, not that we have a lot. We have more Roz than we usually get the last couple episodes. So you probably did see the R a little more in this episode. I noticed it right here in the first scene when we're in the studio. And it's just like, oh, that's a crazy thing to have. Regardless of whether it's for Roz or Roger. Just insane. Well, I mean, we can talk about it throughout the episode, but Ryan, you've talked a lot this season about when you get the Roz you like and the Roz you don't, when the writers seem to be keyed into what Roz the character is best at and when they just kind of lose the plot. Where would you place this version of Roz? I was OK. I'm OK with this Roz. I it's definitely an annoying version of her, but I think it's I could see it being on brand with the Roz. I like she's just infatuated. That's OK. OK. And I think some of the clapback she hits later on, I think really are the Roz I'm looking for. Well, so this whole Marty conversation is interesting to me because Frazier's really trying to schedule some time to have dinner with his father. They live together. Don't they constantly eat together? Like, why is this meal so special? They don't really understand or explain it. So well, try to guess. Like, what could it possibly be? Because it doesn't make any sense. Is it maybe like the 10th anniversary of the mom dying or something like that? I thought it was more just because they live together. They don't actually spend time together. I don't know. They spend time together all the time, unless that starts here. They only spend half an hour once a week together. Oh, we just catch all of it? Yeah. How unfortunate that would be. There's no special occasion. It would add to the urgency of the plot if there was a reason. It can't be the mom thing because Niles would be involved and he isn't. Yeah. It's just nonsense, right? Yeah. Well, and even weirder, I don't feel like it's in his wheelhouse, but Frazier, very quick to pivot to just, I'll bring a pizza. Does that seem like Frazier to either of you? Even when he said the line, like, I'll just bring a pizza, his voice changed. He became like a Midwesterner. It was really weird. I made a reservation for 730, so I'll pick you up around 715, all right? Oh, dear. Hey, you know what? Why don't I stop by with a pizza? You know what it is? I think that he's used to his father being in his space, being in his way, being a nuisance. But now that his dad's got this job, he's away. Now Marty's playing hard to get and Frazier is trying to woo him back. He wants what he can't have. Oh, I love that. Even when we see him holding the pizza box in the next, I think it's the next scene, he looks so, it looks so out of character. I love, I love him trying to woo Marty. He's like, I just want to hang out with my dad, but dad's stuck on the show. Frazier witnesses Marty's supervisor chewing him out. He also gets mistaken for some kind of high-powered businessman. Is there a better office name than Babs? I don't think there is. I think there is. I've never been in an office with a Babs, but right away you'd feel comfortable. No, me either. But I am hiring a new staff member, so maybe I should hire someone named Babs. Let's try to get a Babs. Or just call them Babs on the first day. My name is Jason. Yeah, I mean, so he just brings his papa some pizza. Really insane. Because he says prosciutto infantina, and then Marty says, oh, I wanted ham and cheese. And then Marty gets excited when it's ham and cheese. And I couldn't tell the way they played this. Was it a fancy pizza that those ingredients just happened to also be versions of ham and cheese? Or was it a regular ham and cheese pizza and Frazier was messing with him by pretending it was fancy? I don't think we actually get to see the pizza, but in my mind, I imagine it's just like a Domino's style, like ham and cheese pizza that he's calling prosciutto and blah, blah, blah. Okay, can we stop calling it ham and cheese? It's just a ham pizza. You don't just say pepperoni and cheese, right? The cheese is implied. You have to specify if it's not cheese. It would be weird if it just said ham, so he's got to do it. It would. It would be, and it should have been. We should have sat in it. I think ham and cheese, like as a sandwich, is a pretty common combo. It implies a non-pizza. I feel like if you were to get a ham pizza, that would, to me, that would be different than a ham and cheese pizza. Would it? That's the Salty Curbist who used to work at Subway, who would just follow everything to the letter of the law. No, it was anyway. I think a ham pizza would be just regular mozzarella, red sauce, and some ham on top. I think a ham and cheese to me implies some kind of a cheddar or American cheese mixed in. Oh, that'd be disgusting. Yeah, Marty's disgusting. So what did you gentlemen think of his boss? Ryan, I assume you're a big fan. You know, it was interesting. I liked the guff he was giving Marty, who was violating the rules. Like, everything he says in the first scene is fairly on point, right? Like, you obviously can't just eat a large pizza while you're working at the desk. He's also one of those guys that I'm pretty sure has been on, like, 75 different TV shows. Like, I've just seen him in a bunch of things. Definitely. But, like, all of the rules that he's going over, it's like, yeah, like, it is kind of weird. Of all the people, I thought it was really out of character that Marty's top button was unbuttoned. That felt out of place. It did. Well, and I do think it's interesting because he does chew them out. He does give them a hard time. But the pizza thing, he's actually kind of soft about it. He's not like, like, he just kind of says, oh, you can't have that on the desk. Like, he's very calm about the pizza. And he does want the pizza, so that may be part of that. I like that. I did like that. You can't eat pizza here, but I'll take a slice. And then, yeah, he chews them out for fixing a camera, which is like, I don't, it definitely isn't Marty's place to fix the camera. But, like, I don't know. Maybe he should get a medal for that, too. That was really confusing. I don't know what security guard life is like. But that was a weird thing he did and then got reprimanded for. We don't get much insight into what their working relationship was like before. Like, for all we know, Marty's been a constant screw up. And this is just like, how many times do I tell you, don't leave the fucking desk? Like, you're driving me crazy, Marty. But I think the episode is trying to make us feel like this guy is kind of just a power hungry asshole. Like, he just, he's chewing him out to chew him out. And we'll do that later. But we know Marty, like, it's probably like a financial institution. And he, like, moved it away from the bank vault to look at the stairs because he's an idiot, you know? Yeah, I buy that. How about this bonus guy? This bonus bit of just some random business guy just like, hey, Frasier, you should ask questions so you can get answers and stuff. Like, what the, what is going on with this guy? This guy's weird. Yeah. They don't name the companies. They just give abbreviations. But I found it interesting. The one company he works for is UCB, which is like the Upright Citizen Brigade. Yep. It's like a comedy thing. He thinks Frasier works for DNR, which means do not resuscitate. I was a little disappointed that we never saw, like, a part two of this. Like, it was funny. He messed with the dude. Well, we do see a part two. We just don't get a payoff. Yeah. Well, true. Don't they ever cc you guys on this stuff? Such a weird throw-in. Like, it should set up something. I think normally we would. I really thought we were going to see it at the end. Toss salads. Like, it would come back up. It's going to be easily worked in it. Or in the closet bit. I don't know. But we just don't. I don't know how you would communicate it, but I could see a version where, like, Frasier comes out of the closet and that guy sees him and it seems like he's just the janitor now. Yeah, that would have been fine, too. It just ends the scene. Oh, that would be really funny. Yeah. This is Frasier at his best for both these two scenes. That lead to nothing. It's so weird. We never see Frasier like this. We never see him just having fun. Yeah. Calm, cool, one-upping people from just out of chaos. It doesn't feel well connected to this character or their show or even this episode, really. Yeah. But it's fun. It's good stuff. This scene was just written by someone who'd never heard of Frasier. It was like, I don't know. This is what I would do as a psychiatrist with a weird dad, I guess. I don't know. We get a title card. They had to close the express line. Frasier complains to Daphne and Niles about the abuse Marty received. But when Marty demands everyone leave it, Niles takes Dad's side. We're locking in this episode that he served in Korea. Yes. Kind of seems like something we already knew. I think you guys have yelled at me for not knowing it. I don't know. It doesn't matter. This is at least the third reference to it. Yes. I mean, it's the third time you guys have, we've talked about it, but that's just because you guys forget these things. We do learn in the scene that Niles is mean to bag boys, which no one was surprised by. Totally fit. Didn't bat an eye at that? No. The only thing I bat an eye was that Niles took any offense to it. Like, why? You know yourself, Niles. Come on. Even his retort. That young man was on drugs and everyone in the store knew it. Like, yeah, dude, have you ever been a bag boy? Like, it's terribly dull. You were a bag boy. I forgot about that. I wasn't. I didn't get, I wasn't that good in the grocery store. That's like the big rigs. I was the guy that kept breaking jellies. My first minute that I was hired to work at a grocery store, the first thing I did was break four cans of jelly. Jars. It's still brand. And then didn't clean it up because, you know, I was too new. I didn't know where any of the stuff was. Did you just walk away and hope nobody noticed? The boss who had hired me looks over. I was just like, I'm so sorry. My fire is like, oh, no, this will happen. He just waved me on through. I don't even know if I got cleaned up, honestly. Some say the stains are still there. I mean, they're stained in my mind. I'll tell you that. So something I'm noticing about this episode is we've given Niles so much shit for how he sort of the way he treats Daphne is just making decisions for her and doing things that he wants for her, not like listening to what she wants. But interestingly, in this episode, Frazier is doing that exact thing to Marty. And it's Niles who comes to Marty's defense like, do what he asks you. Don't do things for him. Don't worry, the Niles balance sheet will get righted eventually. We do find out from Marty that Rich, who's his boss, his son is the one who owns the company. Yeah, I'm not sure why he knows that. I guess it's just so later we can get a, my dad is, you know, going to get hurt by your dad, like some kind of weird schoolyard thing. I don't really know why they have to be related. I mean, the next scene really starts it off. Yeah, let's get into it. Frazier summons the owner of Kechner Securities to lodge a complaint about Supervisor Rich. He hesitates to take action until Frazier agrees to purchase their services. As soon as Marty says, that's enough of this. We're not talking about this again. It's done. I think we all knew Frazier was getting involved. Yes. I didn't think he was getting the CEO of the company or the owner, whoever it is. That was a surprise move. I didn't think he would lie about it. I thought he would just straight up call him and just be like, yo, this is happening. But of course, Frazier has to connive and lie to get him to meet him at his home turf, aka the coffee shop. Why? Why didn't you think he would connive and lie? Well, sorry, I shouldn't say that. A normal person would have connive or lie. Frazier would, you're right. Yeah, I feel like this whole episode could have been like one email. Yeah. If we're thinking about it, it is super weird to have this in a coffee shop of all places. A hundred percent. Wait, why? To have a, I want to hire his personal security guard. Let's talk about it in this very public space. Like, obviously we could go to the security office. Obviously we could do it in my apartment. Nope. Let's meet at a coffee shop. This isn't like a casual first date. Like this is a big thing you're trying to hire. I get what you're saying about it being security related specifically, but I also do think that like potential clients meeting, you know, business people at a coffee shop is not that unusual. You're right. That is true. I've had coffee meetings at a Starbucks or a different coffee place. Not about getting a bodyguard. Let me think about that. Have I ever hired a bodyguard for myself or anyone? I can see Ryan, like there would be circumstances where you would want like some privacy around those discussions. I feel like if you were going to talk to the owner of the company to complain about his father's being mean to your father, you would not want to do that in a public setting because it's insane. You would want to do that in a more private setting. What's another matter? I think I would have set this up. I would have had the meat in a park. And they would have the kid thing going on at the park. Other parents would have thought it was like about kids. Yes, I feel like that's more normal in this setting. But I can't wait to say, Curtis. But that sounds more like a date to me. So? This is an intimate detail that we're trying to go for here, Curt. Brad, I feel like you have not introduced a fairly sizable actor in this scene. I don't mean he's fat. I mean, he's been in things. Oh, I thought that's what you meant. I thought this is 100% what you meant. Are you not talking about Sanchez? No, Sanchez is in this scene. He's in the next one. We're talking about the owner of the company. You didn't prep this? I didn't even think he was famous. He looks vaguely familiar. Who is it? Who did I miss? This is Robert Picardo, who played the doctor on a Star Trek. Oh, I never watched Star Trek. I used to make a Star Trek joke. That's so annoying. I think I probably did look him up and don't watch Star Trek. So I didn't even think about it. Your eyes glazed over. Yeah, right? He was the captain of the Enterprise for a little bit, right? Sure. Jean-Luc Ricardo. I'm a doctor, not a barber. Did you believe that the Enterprise guy, when he said that he doesn't believe that his dad would be a bully, did you believe him? Or did you think he was lying? I mean, he runs a security company. I think he probably is a bully. Like, he probably, he doesn't read his father's behavior as a bully because he's a bully. This is a weird stereotype you're adopting. You think people that own security companies are bullies by nature. Because of why? I'm not saying they're bullies, but I will say owners of security companies all think they are experts at security. And some are not. That's totally different. I'm not saying that by definition, if you're in security, you're a bully. I'm just saying, I do not think he's trying to cover up that his dad's a bully. I think he genuinely doesn't think of him that way. And I don't think it's because he doesn't see that side of him. I think it's because he doesn't perceive that kind of behavior as a problem. Got it. That actually makes sense. That's not how I read it. We all don't see some of the shortcomings of our parents. And in the professional context where he's hired his dad, you presume everyone would be on their best behavior around the CEO anyway. He probably never has seen this behavior. And even if he has seen his dad be weird to like, you know, someone at a drive-thru, he would probably discard it as like, oh, he had a bad day. I'm not buying anything. Okay. Okay. Agree to disagree. That said, it got very campy very quickly. Maybe my dad was just defending himself. Did your dad provoke him? No, no, no. I can assure you that your dad started it. It was just too hacked to me. I do think that this might've been a miscast because while it was fun to see a Star Trek actor, he comes off as like nerd vibes, not like security vibes. Yeah, yeah. He does. Yeah, definitely. But at the end, when they're making the deal, that's when I feel like he shines. When he's like, I can help you, but you just gotta, you know, pay. He clearly is on the business end, not the actual security end. This is where I think Frasier shines. Yeah. Well, Frasier does love a good brochure. I loved that line. Now that a complaint has been lodged, Rich enlists passive aggression while Marty tries to remain cordial. So weird bit here is that we now see why Marty is in the graveyard shift like 30 episodes from now or something. I don't remember when we delved into that, but it's been a long time. He's been doing the graveyard stuff. Yeah. No mention of it between the two episodes, but. I felt like the passive aggressive by Rich at first was so bad. It was like, clearly even Marty can see through this passive aggressive bullshit. Well, I think Marty handles himself well because he doesn't take the obvious bait. You know what's great? I thought Marty was, came off really good in this scene because I was like, oh, he clearly knows that Frasier did something. And then when we find out later, he has no idea. I was like, oh yeah, that's classic Marty. No, he had no idea it was Frasier at this point. He didn't have a clue. He's like, yeah, it could be anyone. All of the guards hit you. We do find out in this scene that Rich got drawn up by his son. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which again, I don't know how he would think anyone else was involved. I know you said this is a good scene for Marty, but I do think it's a little bit like lame for him to say, I'll do any graveyard shift. I don't mind doing graveyard shifts. And then the minute he gives him a day, he's like, well, I can't do Tuesday. I did like that. We didn't dive into what it was. Probably like, oh, he's having kip surgery because he's so old. Yeah. But it's just weird to put on the front of I'm flexible. I'll do whatever you asked me to do. You can't hurt me. And then immediately be like, well, actually, I really don't want to do that. You're right. We don't know what day it is. Like that could be tomorrow where you'd be like, yeah, I have something for tomorrow, but I could do two days from now. It does lead to a real fun line. And how's Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday? Better. Niles escapes Roz's boring Roger talk, but leaves Daphne behind. When Frazier finds out his strategy has backfired, he convinces Niles to join him in confronting Rich. All is right in Niles' world again. He immediately ditches his wife as soon as he can. I think you would, too, if you had to hear Roz talk about Roger for the 80th time. I gotta tell you, there was something very painful for me in this scene, because as a person in the process of purchasing his first home, to hear Niles say, this is in the news, interest rates are coming down again. I'm just like, oh man, that'd be nice. Was that really hard for you? It really struck a chord. You wish you were living in 2001? I really do. You wish you were in a coffee shop in Seattle, hearing about Roz talk. If I could go to 2001 Seattle, I would buy so much property. I mean, you'd be, you know, 12, but whatever. I don't know why I have to be 12 in this scenario where I have a time machine. Oh, you would, oh, okay. Fair enough. Conceded. I don't understand why we're not being like, shut the fuck up about Roger. Why is that so hard for everyone to say, especially Frazier, who's like her boss? Well, what I don't understand is how Roz is not picking up on the fact that nobody wants to hear about him. She said she's not picking up on it. It doesn't seem like she is. You know how we tell you not to talk about stuff and you do anyway? I pick up on it. I respect it for about, you know, 25 minutes. She can't even respect it for about five minutes. I don't think you do the 25 minute bet. I think what might be happening here, because we've seen lots of instances of Frazier or Niles or even Daphne sort of teasing Roz and giving her a hard time. So it might seem odd that they're not doing that to her here to kind of get her to lay off the Roger talk. But I think the problem is usually it's in good, it's like in good fun. Like they're all in on the joke, including Roz. I feel like in this case, they really hate Roger and they really don't want to talk about him anymore. And it feels too cruel to say so because they can't do it in a fun way. It's going to be mean. Do you think they hate Roger or they hate the Roger talk? It's the Roger talk. Yes. I don't think there's any evidence they hate the man. Just like Roz not shutting up about him. I think you can tell your friend, especially Niles, who's like, you know, not even friends with her. Just be like, what? Stop. Stop with this Roger business. You don't have to like ditch her. And you're totally trying to stick your wife on her. Or sorry, girlfriend. Path of least resistance, Ryan. I guess. Did you notice the bodyguard before Niles acknowledged him? Yeah, it was hard not to. They focused in on him three times. Okay, okay. Sanchez. I do like that once Niles goes over to Frazier, Frazier really believes like he saved the day and he's the good guy. He does have this sort of sense of accomplishment. Like he did the deed and now everything's back to normal. Yes. Until Marty shows up and is like, yep, my boss still hates me and now he thinks I'm a snitch. How do you think this all played out like with Sanchez? Like we know he stays through the scrambled egg scene, but like Marty's situation got way worse. Like don't you just terminate the contract? Like way before getting in the closet. I think he liked having Sanchez because at one point I think Marty, when he gets aggressive, Sanchez gets up and Frazier gets to like have sit down, like makes that movement. I think he liked having Sanchez. The follow up question. Why didn't we get Sanchez at all the rest of the season? I thought that would have been super fun. I haven't seen season two of new Frazier. I'm hoping he makes an appearance. Plausible. I think I think what's happening is he does cancel the contract because he's only hired Sanchez as a way to get Marty's boss off his back. And now that at the end that we're in jump ahead to the end of the episode now, Marty and Rich seem to be kind of bonding and a little bit buddy buddy. There's no longer an issue that needs solving so he can safely discard Sanchez. But then we see Sanchez after that. We also know that Marty works graveyard shifts to the point that he wants to quit later. So we know the problem isn't resolved. Well, I mean, I'm sorry. I mean, again, jumping ahead. You say we see Sanchez after that. That's true. But clearly he's been employed for other purposes. He's being put to good use. Which again, he should be in the other episodes. Oh, God. He should be fielding all the Roger talk. But the Roger talk dies down after this episode. Not enough. Not enough for my money. You say that, but I think there's got to be at least, what, five to eight episodes where they talk about Roger after this? I think we're in the double digit. Yeah, possibly. The way the scene ends is really weird but delightful. You know what Roger says is the most erotic organ? The mind? No. I really enjoyed that. Yeah, Roz gets cut off well this episode. We get a title card. It's confirmed. They're in the closet. Fraser and Niles prepare to confront Rich. But when Marty shows up to work, they hide in the closet. Marty and Rich see them on the security camera and finally bond over their stupid as fuck kids. I love Fraser's bit where he's like, I am not a violent man, but I will page Sanchez. Yeah, that's a good bit. Strike an old guy. And then Niles immediately gets scared of the old guy once we see him. I was a little surprised that he didn't bring Sanchez with him. Why isn't Sanchez on the detail? I would have brought Sanchez. Maybe they left him back to talk to Roz. Okay, so let's talk about the logistics of the scene because it doesn't make a lot of sense. They're all at the coffee shop, including Sanchez, who's guarding Fraser. But by the time they get to the security lobby, Sanchez is gone. And Marty supposedly went off to take a nap before his shift. But somehow Marty is coming in minutes after Fraser and Niles get there. What is the timeline here? Why is Marty coming in also? Well, Curtis, we did see them leave the coffee shop. So they might have stayed at the coffee shop longer. I mean, that does track. They knocked down like three espressos. Like, what do you think happened? Yeah, to prepare for their confrontation. They went back and forth to talk about it. That's why Fraser's blood was boiling. Yeah. Too much caffeine. Angry Fraser. Although it wasn't that angry. We're going to be real. Yeah, so Marty shows up early, right? Like, he's having a miserable time. And then he's like, oh, I just showed up early so I could check the time cards or whatever. I don't know what the hell he said. But it was stupid. It was like, you're already miserable at work. Don't show up early. That's weird. It doesn't make a lot of sense. And then if his boss gets mad at him, I would definitely just leave it. You're saying if you were Marty? Yeah. Oh, okay. I guess I'll show up when my shift starts at the least, if not quit. I feel like what does it say about Marty's life overall? That he's got this miserable work life. It's not going well at work. And he thought, I'm just going to go in early. He's going to hang out at work that I hate. He doesn't need the job. Like, he can definitely go get another security job. I get that he wants to, like, fill his time or whatever. But, like, he has room and board and food. Like, just go find a better security job. What are you doing? This aired before Christmas. I was just trying to think, is it possible that he's already sort of lusting after Peg? Like, is that why he wants to keep this job? Oh, that's interesting. Because of her? That's a good theory. This could plausibly be around the time of the holiday party. Either it just happened or it's about to happen. Like, maybe there was some kind of preamble to the party that led to the makeout. Did we? We didn't have a Christmas episode, did we? No. No. Which is even weirder. Normally we would about. Every season has had a Christmas episode so far. I don't know. I haven't looked to see when the first episode of the season aired. But I suspect a lot of episodes they had already planned and started shooting probably got pushed back because of 9-11. Ew. So I think they probably didn't get to do a Christmas episode because the episodes that were supposed to air in, like, early November got pushed to the December slot. Oh, interesting. That's a guess. I don't know if that's true. That's a guess. I'm locking that in. It makes sense. That leaves the Christmas party in play. So I'm locking it in. What do you mean he keeps it in play? What are you talking about? It's the opposite. If we start out in December, why can't we have a Christmas party to start, like, the season? No, he's saying the opposite. No, no. This aired on December 11th. I'm saying that the episode that was supposed to air, you know, in November got pushed back because they started the season late, potentially. So they may never win in a Christmas episode. Yeah. Why can't a Christmas episode happen in December? I don't understand. Why does it have to happen in November? This is December 11th. The next episode we're going to watch is December, like, 3rd. And then on November. We're doing it backwards, Ryan. Did you forget? You guys are really into, like, the logistics of when seasons air. I don't know these things. Do Christmas episodes have to happen on Christmas? Is that what you're implying or something? Almost universally. Especially back then when shows were from September to May, the Christmas episode would be around Christmas. It may not be on Christmas Day, but they would air, like, the last episode of the year would be a Christmas episode, usually. All right. Well, sorry. I don't know stuff like that. I'm hoping for a Christmas party still. Why can't I be, why can't we have a Christmas party on December 1st then or whatever? That's what Curtis just said. I'm confused. Why don't we move on to the closet? Are we, aren't we already there? To talk about it is what he's saying. What? What is up with you today, Ryan? I don't know. He's just talking about December. He's telling you to talk about the closet. Will you talk about the closet? Oh, right. We're Paige Sanchez. Right. We didn't get into the closet yet. Right. Got it. Jesus Christ. Will you get in the closet then? Get in the game. Get in the closet. Yeah. Marty shows up. His kids get scared. They run into the closet. And then almost immediately, Frasier admits that this whole thing is actually about him, which I thought was interesting. Again, interesting. Not on character Frasier move. I mean, I couldn't even really follow this little moment of, of self-realization. Self-realization about it being about him. What was the point of it? What were they saying about Frasier? Okay. So, Frasier's dad is getting bullied at work. That's obviously hard for Frasier to process. And they're saying because their whole life, Frasier's dad made the calls. It's weird to see him in like a subservient position. And it's uncomfortable. And Frasier acknowledges that. What do you mean? What's unclear about that? Nothing anymore. You've cleared it all up. Thank you. Good job, Ryan. What didn't you get in context? I think my problem is that this premise of Frasier having some kind of vague psychological situation with his dad just seemed too generic. And I just didn't, I didn't care enough. And it was, it was hard to focus and just keep track of what they were saying. Interesting. I don't think it fit his character, if that helps. But I, again, I thought it was pretty plain as that. Okay. Okay. We do get a great moment where they're fighting about that and saying that they're, I did not write this down right. What I wrote down was you're a grown man hiding from you, child. Yeah. That's what Niall said in his usual eloquent way. But, but yeah. So we'll just drop in the line here. You're a grown man. You're still scared of him. You're a grown man. You're still scared of him too. Yeah. Well, at least I have a girlfriend. Shut up. I did like that line. That line was helpful because it re-centered me. It was like, oh yeah, that's not his, you know, betrothed. That's not his wife. We're not at any of that yet. We see the proposal later. So that was actually very helpful. I would have liked to have seen the rich confrontation with Frasier Niles. Because like, he's very bullheaded, but like, he's only, he's only dealing with people that I guess have to answer to him of some sort. It would have been nice to see how Frasier handled it. But Marty puts the kibosh on it. And then they have a lot of fun with it, especially when Niles starts panicking. I loved that bit about the like, there's ammonia in here? Like, what are we going to do? He starts breathing under the door. I thought it was weird how quickly Marty and Rich like, bonded. It's like two lines and they're best friends. You have to understand, like, old people can bond quickly. They don't want to because they think they've met all their friends, but like, plenty to, you know, relate to. Remember that, old people. If you see another old person, you could be best friends very quickly. It's like a bell curve. Everybody says in, you know, adulthood, it's hard to make new friends. But when you're a kid, it's easy. And when you're a old person, it's easy. The story that Marty's telling about something falling from the 19th floor. I assume we're going to see that, right? Because Marty didn't live in a, we know the house that Marty had the kids growing up in. This sounds like it's the Frasier apartment. I wonder if that's as bad continuity, though, because it did sound like a, this is my kid doing this. Not, this is my adult son. I mean, still your kid. And sometimes they're still idiots. Frasier especially. Oh, yeah. It would be funny if Frasier's like, oh, yeah, I'm glad he grew out of that. And Marty's like, this was two years ago. My guess is it's a season one joke. It's referring to something that happened earlier. So Marty calls Frasier and he's just like, oh, hey, Frasier, what you up to? And Frasier pulls out this insane line where he's like, I'm in a very quiet restaurant. And then proceeds to order, not that quietly. And then, yeah, it goes back to having the conversation, like, super weird line to go with. Especially when you're Frasier and you like, you love books, you love bookstores. Presumably you go to libraries from time to time. You can pull that one out. Nope. Right away. He's like, I'm in a quiet restaurant. Does that exist? I don't know. When Niles tries to chime in and he like shushes him, like the noise they must have made in that moment. Like, I know that obviously Marty already knows he's in there, like, but that Frasier doesn't realize he's being really loud. I don't know why he thinks he would pull that off. Or what the hell the lie is even supposed to be. What's the quietest restaurant you've ever been in? I think it was in a restaurant once that it wasn't quiet for any reason other than nobody else was there and it was very uncomfortable. What do you mean? Do you mean you were the only, it was just you dining by yourself? It was just me. Laugh after that? Yes. Tell me more. I want to hear more. I'm not remembering a specific instance. It's more of a sense memory I'm having. Like, I feel it in my bones, but I don't remember any details. How often does this come up? No, not often. Oh, there's one. Okay, sorry. Anyway, let me ask you. Do you think that they actually left Niles and Frasier in there for five full hours? Or do you think after, like, 20 minutes, they're, like, jig is up, like, ha, we know you're here. Get out of here, you idiots. I don't think it was full five hours. I think they would have let them go five hours. I think, I assume Frasier came out pretty quickly. And I don't think it was 20 minutes. I think it was, like, six. Yeah, I think Niles would start hyperventilating after about four minutes. Well, that's probably true. Yeah, the real question is who would break first of the two of them. And it probably would be Niles next to a jug of ammonia. The only thing that would keep them in for any length of time would be the competition between who's going to break first. And that could have been a bit of fun. Hey, there are lots of opportunities in this episode for fun. They didn't choose them, but there were lots of opportunities. And sometimes they created fun out of nowhere with something they didn't follow up on. So this is a weird episode. Top to bottom. It's very weird. Well, Frasier plays this out with Raw's boring Sanchez with stories of Roger. This was good. Continuing on with good ones. It's a hell of a run for the scrambled eggs in. Serviceable scrambled eggs. Well, Brad, what do you think? Was this any good? It was, like, so weird that it was good. There's not a lot of, like, bad things to say. It's just odd. So I'm going to give it, I think, a B. A solid B. I just feel like this episode was, like, entertaining. But, like, nothing crazy, good or bad. We do not agree. I put this at 51 out of 72. I thought this was, even talking about it, sometimes I get to my score and I'm like, oh, I kind of liked it, but I rated it low. Not here. I feel like the more we talked, the more I was annoyed at this episode. I think it was mostly boring. It had a few good bits, a few good lines. But I just, it was incoherent and pointless. I would say this did not rate as highly as Frasier has Spokane, but it is better than Proxy Prexy. See, I like that it was so incoherent. Of course you did, though. Did you guys do a rewatch of this episode? I did, yeah. Because we paused. We were supposed to do this a week earlier. When I went to go rewatch it, I was not looking forward to it. Like, I was dreading it. And then when I started remembering what the episode was about, I got excited again. And then, like, towards the end, I kind of got annoyed again. But then the last scene, again, I kind of liked it. Not scrambled eggs, the closet scene. So, like, very mixed results, like, even in my own brain about how I feel about this episode. I think that's fair. Ultimately, I gave it a six. You would think bullying Marty would be, like, amazing. Like, oh, this is the best thing ever. But it's not that fun. It's a little fun. It's like another sad old guy. So it's, like, not that fun. I don't know. Ultimately landed on a six. It was, again, for this season, pretty good. It was humdrum, but, like, belongs maybe in a different season. So, I don't know. All over the place. When Marty asked a closeted Frasier why he was whispering, Frasier lied that he was at a restaurant. But what would Frasier's next lie be if Marty didn't accept it? We're going to find out in a game of liar, liar, pants neatly folded in the closet. Curtis finally cracking a joke tonight. Here's how this is going to go. Each of us will go around presenting a lie to tell to Marty. We will then rank each of these based on the quality of the lies between the numbers 1 and 10. However, we cannot reuse any numbers. That means that we are locking in the order in which we will tell lies to Marty. I just want to say, whoever's idea this was, genius. Really smart guy. All right, Brad. I think you love the idea. Do you want to go first or last? You know what? I think we should change the order each round. Very bad idea. Weird enough. Limited auctions with three people, but sure. Well, there's three rounds. It all makes sense. So I'll go first this round. And I'm going to say that, Brad, are you going to do this like you're on the phone with Marty? How are you going to perform this? Oh, yeah, yeah. What up, big Marty? It's Frazier. Yeah, I can't talk right now. I'm at a wine tasting with the mayor of Seattle. Is that it? You weren't really whispering. It's my only note. Sorry. Pretty loud. Which you would have to be at a wine tasting, probably. I'm sorry. I'm at a wine tasting with the mayor of Seattle. I don't like the ASMR quality that landed in. Right? I heard it too. So that's what my voice is perfect for, AMSR. But no, I'm going to say wine tasting with the mayor of Seattle. I mean, I think that that's a plausible why for Frazier, but I don't know why you would need to be whispering. It's a plausible text. It's not a plausible phone call. 2001. Well, this is before the texting era. 2001. It texted, I think, probably. 2001. Whatever. I'm saying it's still not a plausible phone call. Regardless of year. You can call a landline. It's still not plausible. Would have been an A message. Is that what you mean, Ryan? There you go. I feel like he would not answer. Like, if that was the lie, you would just, you would screen the call. Yeah. Yeah. I think I agree with that. You went too far with the mayor. If it was just like a wine tasting, that would have been plenty. But I think you went with, it's too prestigious. So I'm going to make this lower. I'm going to say like, it's, I don't know what we're going to come up with. This is hard. I would rank this, Ryan, at like maybe a seven. What are we, sorry, are we saying 10 is the least believable or the most believable? If Marty calls us, we're going to go through lie one, two, three, four. We're going to get all the way to lie 10. 10 is like the least plausible. This is a power rank. Oh, okay. Yeah. You put this at a seven? I think so. I don't think this is because he wouldn't answer. It's not very good. This would be like a really bad start. I'd put this at like a nine. Frazier would be at such a thing, which is why I would say it's not quite a good. How about an eight? Should we, should we come? I'll settle with an eight. Should we average it out? Okay. We're locking it in eight and then I guess I can go. Father, I have joined an exclusive new social club that practices the art of whisper. This is how I talk now. I hear it. I hear what you're doing. It's slightly more believable than going to the wine with the mayor. Back to why wine with the mayor is not believable. Frazier would have talked about it way before it happened. Right. Exclusive club we know is a check mark in the Frazier bucket. Whispering's tough. Whispering's tough. Maybe he can last like a day. And that this call would be part of that. I don't know. I just, I think he would, someone else would know. There's no way he keeps that a secret. I feel like he would brag about going to the club to his dad. So I don't know. Is the goal just to be quiet on the call or is the goal to end the call? Because there's a problem here. Oh, that's a good point. Yeah. You want the call to end quickly, but you also need to be quiet on the call. It's multiple things. It's all of the things. So there's no reason to end the call just because he whispers now. Right. That's a good, I didn't think of that. That's a good point. But it's better than wine with a mayor, right? What are you thinking, Ryan? I'm thinking, I'm thinking six for this one. I think it's seven. Six. It's hard to tell the quality. The quality's looking a little rough right now. So yeah, maybe, maybe six is fine. I think six is fine. All right. Go with six. Locking it in. I believe I'm up. Yeah. Yep. Papa, I've just passed a group of rioters on the streets. I can't be loud. They're just within earshot. They have peaceably assembled. They look meek and docile. I think a five to six man unit could come and squash them immediately. Get five of your best buds and meet me on Fifth and Crane. Fifth and Crane. A known intersection in Seattle. Did you look that up? Or is this just you not knowing what fake name to give? I don't know. I just feel like Frasier would go right home. And would it help? Yeah, I'm torn on this one because I see what you're doing. You're trying to like not just get off the phone, but get Marty out of the building so they can bail, which is clever. I think that you're a little too aggressive on your attempts at the cop talk. But then again, maybe that's what Frasier would do. Marty's cop instincts get those to kick in. I think this is a higher quality than we did, Brad. What do you think? Yeah, but not by much. I was going to give it four or five. Yeah, let's go. I don't know what we're going to get. I feel like five. I want to go five. It doesn't feel like a four. Okay. I'll allow it. Are you weighing that against the past two examples? Are you really stepping it up? I want to fight a little bit for a four because I do think this is a clever angle to try to get Marty out and I don't know if it'll work, but it's at least trying something. Okay, fine. Mine's way better. Curtis, do you want to go first this time? Sure. I've read somewhere that whispering burns more calories than talking, so I'm trying it out. It's so sad how actual believable and how smart that actually would be for Frasier to do. I hate that so much. Yeah, but we're in the same family of like, yeah, you've now got him quiet. To what end? It's hard to tell. I think it's the best one so far. You're more believably quiet. I don't, again, I don't know what you're doing with that info, but you're now just going to talk in the closet for a while. What are you thinking, Ryan? I mean, it's definitely better than yours. Obviously, Marty wants to riot, to suppress a riot way more than he cares about Frasier whispering. I want to go three with this, but I am worried about the quality of what we have to come. So it's comfortably between three and five. You feel strong? Four is taken. That's what I'm saying. The small reason it is. How bad are your next two? All right, fine. Yeah, let's do it. Three's fine. I should go next? It's not based on the way you've laid out the format, but you can. I should go next, and then you should go last, and then you go first. We've done this in the most sensible way. Yes, for sure. Hello, Papa. I've been pulled over by the police, and I need you to come and help me. Oh. Why are you doing your P's this way? Papa, Papa, that's how Frasier talks. I think you're just coming a little bit off mic. That's the problem. I think your P gets a little too high. Say it again. Papa, I've been pulled over. That's it. Just, you've been pulled over. By the police. By the police. First of all, he's going to ask questions. He's going to want to know more about why he's pulled over. A white wealthy man being pulled over is not cause for alarm. So, like, there's no reason Marty's going to feel like he needs to leap to action to go do anything about it. He's just going to want to hear what happened. You're steamrolling right now. I want to count to the first point, though. Frasier's a terrible driver. He should have been pulled over at least half the times we've seen him drive. At least. Tannon that he's a terrible driver. That's fine. I'm not saying it's implausible that he would be pulled over. I'm saying Marty wouldn't do anything about it or care. Well, he's probably calling Marty to get his cop friends involved. But he's not. Marty calls him. Oh, yeah. That is confusing. I guess he could say, like, I can't talk because there's a cop here. I've been pulled over. That could work. I'm not. I feel like being like, oh, my cop dad just called me. Helps, though. First of all, if you're on the phone, they're not going to like that. But second of all, if you're on the phone, there's a police officer on the other end of his phone. I don't think that's going to win you any papers either. That would dramatically help the situation. I do. I genuinely think it would help. Well, you think it would help, which means more talking. I think it wouldn't, which would mean get off the phone because I can't be on the phone because I've been pulled over. So I think it's a high level of success if it's my perspective. But I think it's a lower level of success if it's your perspective. Yeah, because then he'd probably get involved in the conversation with the cop. I also would have to pretend to be the cop. It's a mess. Yeah, that is a mess. Well, Brad, you're the author. Which version would you say is this? What are you hoping for? Curtis is my dream. It's your dream? Take it easy. Where does that leave us? I don't remember. Just, I can't talk. I've been pulled over. Okay. Which I really do think is a very effective way to just get off the phone. The only hindrance to that is it's possible ex-cop Marty would want to be like suddenly giving a bunch of advice or something. Maybe there's some protocol. Like get his badge number, blah, blah, blah. I don't know. I think that's going to be mostly Marty talking at Frasier, not Frasier having to talk. So I think all of these work. I think this is a good one. I think this might be the number one. Let's leave one open. I'll settle for two. Okay. Ryan? Papa. I'm at a pray the gay. Why have we settled on Papa? Can anybody explain that to me? That's what Frasier says in every episode. What are you talking about? Papa. I'm at a pray the gay away spa and retreat and we're in prayer right now. I cannot talk. There's a number of men around me that, you know, the queer agenda you've always been fighting. They're trying to make a, you know, a queer image of themselves. Not anymore. I'm keeping on the straight and narrow like you've always taught me, Marty. I've got to go. Way too long. Very long. You're also- Let's Frasier. You be long. Your premise is that Frasier is praying the gay away? Yeah. Because you know Marty hates the gays. I think this is what this stretch. You're thinking in your mind, Ryan, that Marty will like this because finally his son's going to play sports or whatever. Yes. But what Marty is instead going to think is you're fucking gay? Like he's going to go ballistic because- No, he's praying the gay away. So it's fine. It's being taken care of. No. Yeah. I don't think this would work. Yeah. I think this will backfire or anything. What are you thinking? Nine or ten, Curtis? I think we should go for ten. I don't think it could be worse than that. And I'm saying that knowing Brad's got another one holstered. You guys are really banking on the fact that you think Marty likes gays, I think. I think that's what you guys think. And it's incorrect. No, it's the opposite. I think that he currently perceives his son to be a heterosexual. If suddenly he's told that his son is not a heterosexual, he's going to freak him out. If he found out either of his sons was gay, he'd go, yeah, that makes sense. And then he's going to pray to the gay away camp. He's like, oh, good for you. You know what the best part about this is? What's that? Ryan gets to go again. Wait, wait, wait. Did we settle on- Ten. I said ten. Do you- Okay, okay. I 100% agree. Mistakes. I can't wait to hear Brad's last one. Go ahead, Ryan. Papa, I'm keep undercover. All of the theories you've had that most movies are actually documentaries are real. E.T. really did walk the earth. Jaws really is a bad guy. Then Raiders of the Lost Ark, they really did find the Ark of the Covenant. I've got to go. I don't think Marty would understand anything he said. Those were all movies he likes, probably. First of all, I don't know why you think Marty is- I don't know why you would think that. Why? Why would I not think- He likes cartoons. I guess- Are you saying these movies are too advanced? I feel like he likes war movies from the 40s. Oh, you- No, you like AIDS movies. If you had picked Rambo or something, it'd be one thing. Yes. You picked, like, science fiction things. Science fiction, yes. I'm saying we're action movies. Remember, Marty is the guy who said zombies aren't real. Yes. If Rambo was real, though, like, that wouldn't mean anything to us. Like, okay, one guy went and tore up a different country. Like, who cares? Let's even accept your premise, Ryan, that Marty would be super into this. If he's into it, then he's going to have questions. It's going to prolong the conversation. It's not going to shut it short. He's deep undercover. Nobody's going to believe Frazier is deep under anything. Yeah. Curtis, what are you thinking? What are our options? I'm really disappointed. I thought Ryan- I thought Ryan would be better, too. I think this is number nine. In his defense, I'm not sure he understood the game. In my defense, I think you're both incorrect. I think you're both incorrect. Before I agree with you, Curtis, what are our open numbers right now? We've got one, five, seven, and nine. Yeah, I guess nine. I was thinking about seven, but I think nine. You guys better bring it. I think my last one's good. Curtis? Both of yours have been nonsense so far, despite what you're saying about Mary. Papa? There you go. Now you're getting the spirit order. I can't talk right now. I'm rehearsing for the role of Gollum in the community production of The Hobbit. No fucking chance. If Frazier was Gollum, everyone in the world would know about it. Zero percent chance. Also, why does it matter if he's rehearsing for it? Well, he's method about it, you know? Gollum's not quiet. Yeah, he whispers. He whisper talks. That's why I picked him. He wouldn't be like, I can't talk right now. Unless you're like, I can't talk. I'm trying to go get the ring. Like, what are you talking about? I think you'd be very method. That's all. You 100% would know that he was going to be Gollum before he was rehearsing for it. He would be so upset. Well, maybe he's rehearsing for his audition. He would never audition for Gollum. Are you out of your mind? I don't think it's as terrible as some of yours, Ryan. What? Why? Why don't you think that? You're not regretting the 9 and 10 being taken? Not at all. On a single point, what do you think is better? Because I don't think any of them are, other than he might be in a play. He would hear the word play, and then he would hang up. Oh, that's interesting. If you just cut out the rest of what Curt said, then maybe. I still want to go more than 7. No, absolutely not. Unless yours are terrible, you've got to go 7. I think mine's going to be great. Yeah, it's 7. Do you want to hear it now? No. Well, that's been a great episode. Okay. Pa, sorry, I can't talk right now. I'm in a Seattle Supersonics game, and Niles cannot come. Would you like to join me? Oh. If you would have played this a little different, where he didn't know the Supersonics, he said like the wrong thing or something, I'm a little on board. Or if instead of saying I'm at the game and Niles won't come, if it was like, I got these tickets, the station was giving them out, but I don't want them. Do you want to go to the game? I think that makes more sense. That's the only thing stopping me from putting that at the number one slot. You were so close. You were on the doorstep, and I think you did it stupid. Want to make it clear, still way better at this game than both of you. What are you giving me, a one or a three? It's one or five. Ooh. Five feels low for this, to be honest, but I don't know. Do we want to give away the one slot? You just didn't button down the details right, Brad. I think the rough idea is pretty good. The execution was so sloppy, it's got to be five. You just wanted to say supersonic also, which is kind of annoying. You know, supersonics? Yeah. This is very exciting. We have saved the number one slot. This is the first excuse after a restaurant we would be giving to Marty. And the way we're going to do this, because there's only one slot left, we're each going to name our final option, and then the three of us will vote on which of these three is going to make it in. And this is going to the number one slot, so they better be good. I'll go first, because mine isn't. I'll be honest, the only prompt about this that I even considered at all was making the whispering plausible. I didn't really think through other angles at all. So my submission for your consideration. Papa, I made a bet with Niles that I could whisper for 24 hours straight. And I'm winning. Okay. Ryan, do you want to give your idea? I'll go next. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Papa. I'm at a silent movie, and now that I've talked, I've gotten thrown out. Please come pick me up immediately. I'm at the corner of Fifth and Crane. I went much simpler than you guys with this one. Papa, I'm at a psychology lecture. I can't talk. I have to whisper. Oh, shit. Yeah, that's probably it. That's really good. I was all for you, Ryan. I was about to vote for you, because that seemed good. But again, it requires Marty to do something. Well, I guess, actually, that gets Marty out, which is helpful, because then they can just leave, whereas Brad's just gets the phone hung up. True. Maybe I do want to vote for Ryan's. This is what I'm going to say. I think Ryan's is probably better. Mine's more logical than he would use next. Can we all agree Curt's out? Let's just take him off the board. Oh, 100%. I would agree with Ryan's if it wasn't fighting for number one. But because we're fighting for number one, I feel like mine is the most likely of him to say. Does that make sense? No. Okay. I mean, if you're saying you think you'd come up with it first, but that's not the game we're playing. We're not trying to get into Fraser's head about what he would come up with. We're trying to think, what would we feed him? Look, I know that. I'm trying to win. So whatever I'm going to do to try to convince you guys to pick me, it's how it's going to be. Would you want to revisit the Prey the Gateway spot? Maybe you guys were sleeping on it. So terrible, Ryan. So terrible. This is one of those cases where we've saved these two actually really good options that should be both on the board, maybe high on the board, but we've only got one slot left. I'm just kidding. It being better than we thought. Actually, I really like the format of this. Thank you. I think, Brad, you did a stellar effort. It was a great option, but all that it gets you is a quiet five hours in a closet. I feel like the real solution to the problem is I need a ride. Come pick me up. So, Ryan. Congratulations. Suck it, everyone. I will see you on Fifth and Crane. You got the number one and number 10 slot. And nine. Just so we're clear, this is how the conversation with Marty goes. It starts with the restaurant. He's like, you're not at a restaurant. He's like, well, I need a ride. No, I don't think that's true. Well, I got pulled over by a cop. Well, I was whispering to burn calories. A mob of yous. Come save me. Come with me. I've got tickets to the Supersonics. How about I'm part of a new social club and I practice the art of whisper now. I'm rehearsing for Gollum. I'm at a wine tasting with the mayor. Movies are real now. And I'm undercover. You know what, Dad? I'm praying the gay away. Great job, Curtis. That was awesome. I think that sounds exactly how that would go. Well, Ryan, will you tell us if Frasier's going to do a good job of delivering a fun episode next week when we cover the previous episode? It's season nine, episode 10, Junior Agent. It's the return of the Crane Boys Mystery Club. And this time they've recruited Alice, the only kid on the show. Oh my God. First of all, not the only kid on the show, but sure. Freddy. Freddy's a child. Yeah. I forgot about him. So do the Frasier writers most of the seasons. We've had the Freddy episode. Come on. Yeah. No, I think that's actually a brilliant... I mean, it's weird that I'm pretty sure we got introduced to the Crane Boys Mysteries after this. So I'm not sure why they would bring it back, but it's still a great idea. I don't know that we got introduced to it. It felt like it could have gone either way when we talked about it before. I'm not trying to reveal anything. I'm just saying that my perception of the way they introduced it, it seemed like new information. I'll tell you this. It's a tough combo of words, junior agent, you presume it's about a kid, right? And we know Marty's not an active cop, so it's tough to work with those words. There's no agents in the show. Oh shit, it's probably about Bebe. I was waiting for that. She hasn't been in for like ever. I haven't seen her for a long time. I'm just impressed you remembered her name. I totally forgot he had an agent until I was saying it out loud right here. I was like, there's no agents on the show. I was like, ah shit. We'll find out next week if that's what we're getting. That'll do it for us. Thanks to Kevin MacLeod for our theme music and thank you for listening. I suppose you don't really care if this podcast is successful. Sorry, I feel like I was being like a robot. Let me try that again. Frazier summons the owner of Kechner Securities to lodge a complaint about Supervisor Rich. Question. Do you think you did that any differently? Do you think your voice changed one iota between the two reads? Spoiler alert. It did not. You might have been more robotic the second read. I think he was. I thought it felt better. I'm happy with it. Why?

Brad’s go-to pizza has pepperoni and banana peppers. Ryan says he will eat most pizza and describes barbecue sauce, pepperoni, red onion and anchovy, calling it exotic but not fancy. Curtis favors classic pepperoni or sausage. Brad complains about vegetable-heavy pizzas.

Brad gives a solid B, finding it oddly entertaining without anything exceptionally good or bad. Curtis ranks it #51 of 72, below Frasier Has Spokane but above Proxy Prexy, calling it incoherent and pointless.
