Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Frasier Rewatch podcast where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight we're covering season 10, episode 1, The Ring Cycle, which originally aired on September 24th in the year of Brad's Marmitsva. Is this when Niles and Daphne marry? We'll find out. I'm your host Curtis Shuck. Joining me as always, it's our resident upside downer. It's Ryan. Curtis, we're ringing in the end of the season or the beginning, depends who you are. So excited. Very excited. Also with us today, it's our sleazy efficient, it's Bradley Kirkston. Oh, I'd be such a good sleazy efficient. Why are you doing a voice on purpose? Why is Batman want to be an efficient? Are you doing sleazy efficient voice? I didn't know you had that so quick. I think when someone wants me to do sleazy voice, it just, it jumps in without even me trying. The sleazy voice just comes out. What a creepy voice. I love that. Yeah, but I would be such a good sleepy as, not sleepy. You would definitely be a sleepy efficient. The sleepy efficient. That could definitely be a Reno gig too. I'd be such a good sleazy sleepy assistant, uh, efficient. God, I cannot speak tonight. It's going to be a long episode.

I would be such a good sleazy efficient. I'd be so good at it. In what way? What would be sleazy about you? I would have all the best qualities, you know, I'd be endearing. I'd be comical. I'd make them feel like they're waiting. How is that sleazy? I'm getting there. I'm getting there. When I think of a sleazy efficient, I think endearing. Well, I'm the killing endearing. You gotta be a little endearing to fish them in. I'm doing the fishing, the fishing. Yeah, to fish them into your, um, congregation. That's not how, that's not how that word is spelled. You know that, right? And then you get them in there and you wow them and you make them feel special. And then the sleaziness just kind of comes out. Did you say wail them? I said, you wow them. Oh, wow them. Okay. You do the fishing so that you can wail them. Like I did some weird nautical theme. Yeah, maybe, maybe everything I should say tonight should just be nautical themes. Maybe that would be. If you can get, if you can get your sleazy voice back, that could be like a grizzled semen type of voice. I think you could pull that off. Brad the semen. That's gone. Brad the semen. Oh, you've lost it. Don't do, don't do radio. Do, can't talk sleazy. Whatever that was. Sleepy sleazy. Pretend you're my boss. I'm a mob boss. Ha ha ha ha. What is that? Actual with it. F-boy, I'd do you hear some shit. Sorry, my Count Chocula voice came out there. I'm sorry about that. A little bit. Well, fellas, I'm proud to announce that this marks, this, this marks the one year of us doing this podcast. Wow. That's how you do it. That is how you do it. That's how you do it. And to a year in, we're still opening with whatever that was. No, it's gotten worse than that. We as a group have come so far in one year. You know, a year ago, I was living in Rwanda. Ryan was in Nova Scotia. Curtis was in Bangkok. And now we have all, you know, morphed to now. Ryan is in San Diego. Curtis is in Montana, Billings. And I'm in San Antonio. And just to see how we've changed in a year. I try to be clear. I am not in Billings, Montana. I'm, I'm got a new job where I'm working Billings for a company and I'm, I'm located somewhere in Montana. Okay. Fair enough. Yeah. Thank you for that clarification. I was on the Yellowstone Ranch. We know that. Yeah. But just think about how we've all changed so much in one year. Wow. I like that your idea of change is just physically distant. To him, the idea of moving anywhere seems like the greatest lifeboat you could achieve. Curtis, could you imagine? We moved. Oh, that's the whole thing. Okay. That's it. That's the whole idea. It's been quite an evolution. I think back to our first episodes where I was afraid of copyright issues as if anybody was going to report this. And I can't imagine going back and listening to those early episodes because I imagine her just very dull. Nah, they're probably fine. I don't know. I think it took Ryan, it took him a very long time to understand what the hell this show was. It took me a long time to figure out who Roz is. Yeah. Yeah. Still say Roz, but I mean Daphne a couple times. It took you most of that first season to even realize a dog was on the show as like a regular. No one knows who you're talking. That dog that was introduced in season 10? Oh, well, we're going to talk about a dog that was introduced in season 10. Yeah. Well, should we find out about that dog now? Look, we should. We should do it together as a team because teamwork makes the dream work. All the years I've known you, you've never come up with anything else to say. All right. How we do it? Look, we're all going to work together because as you guys know, the flower only blossoms with all of our politics. Hey, what? Now I know. Now I know why you don't change it up. Was that a sex thing? What is that? It's a flower thing. Yeah. Is it? You know that our audience loves when we pivot into the show and then just linger? Let's just linger on this for longer. Gotta be highlights about it. Brad wants to do some weird sex flower stuff. I don't know, man. I didn't think that was happening. I'm not ready for that.

segment type: episode recap and discussion Context outside the activity. reviewed full source context: We open with fireworks over Seattle. Daphne is mid-vows to Niles in Reno. Roz calls to brag about her apartment building's murder-suicide, but is interrupted by Daphne sharing about the wedding. These are all locations. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. This is my moment. What the actual fuck is happening? Oh, this really threw you for a loop. This baffled me beyond... Oh, my. I wish I could have got my reaction. I felt like I was hit by a shovel multiple times in this scene. I was just like, are you fucking kidding me? This is the wedding? This is when we're doing it? This is how we're doing it? Is there anything in the last... Let me do math for a second. 47 episodes that led you to believe this is how we got married? Not even the slightest bit. Okay. This is absolutely fucking baffling. I'm... God smacked. Honestly. What was the first thing that really, like, jarred you? Just the opening or just everything? Okay. First of all, we're doing an episode where we're starting with Daphne's face. That's literally never happened. Okay. And then we're like, oh, it's a wedding. Oh, oh, it's the wedding. Oh. Oh, they're doing it here in Reno. What the fuck is going on? Now there's a lot of questions of, like, are the birds coming back? Can we finish the bird storyline? I think the birds are done. I do wonder about the last season, season nine, because you would expect season nine to end, if not on a cliffhanger, then on some kind of big, you know, moment. And a wedding seems like an obvious thing to build towards for a season. So it is weird that they just kind of begin this season with it. I'll be very curious when we find out what the hell happened at the end of last season. They make it clear that it was a spur of the moment decision, too, this episode. Right. Which is just, yeah, it's the season nine. It better be cliffhanger, but it's still the pacing is going to be weird as always. Yeah. In the last episode of season nine, they hint at a character named Julia is going to be joining the show. They might handle it with like 30 seconds left before the scrambled egg. Like that, that might be how they handled it. So what do you think of the way? I mean, it's obviously not what you thought they would do, but. This is so, so, so out of character. I don't, it's absolutely bananas. In case you're wondering, because I actually did my job and looked it up. The officiant is played by actor Sam Johnson. He has been in nothing. That is the most boring meme I've ever heard. I definitely recognize him. He's like one of those, you know, character actors. Yeah. Nothing sustainable. Nothing that's going to win him an Oscar. Sustainable. A lot of people were texting me, Brad, that last week you forgot to do who was on the phone line. Who were the callers? Oh, it was Tito Jackson. And did you just combine a couple of UFC guys? No, no. Tito Jackson's the fifth Jackson brother or fourth Jackson brother. Something like that. Okay. And the other one was played by Tom Collins. The drink? Yes. I was trying to come up with something more creative, but I just went with the drink. We'll go with that. Nailed it. Thank you. I was going to say that the other caller was Arnold Palmer, but that is a real person. That'd be quite a get, too. Quite a get. I think he might be dead, but either way. The other caller was Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary, Cod. I feel like early 2000s TV, late 90s TV. The idea of the like Nevada drive-thru wedding was such a big trope. And I'm just curious if that was really that big of a thing, like these tacky weddings that happened like a fast food joint. And do you think they're still happening today? And how much do they cost? Asking for a friend. Asking for a friend. Of the three of us, I became the closest to once having a tacky wedding, even though I probably was not as close as I thought I was. Seeing how I almost had a tacky wedding, I could have put it off in Reno and been great at it. What do you mean pulled it off? What do you mean be great at it? Yeah, I'm the type of person that I would get into the gig. Like I gag. I'd be like super excited. I'd be really into it. I'd be excited to get married by some sleazy MC or an Elvis impersonator. I've never been to Reno, but I'm assuming everyone's real cool there. So I think I would have felt right in where I think Ryan, you would have probably got kicked out of the marriage house. The wedding chapel. Yeah, the wedding chapel. The whole thing, the only thing that you legally have to do to get married is repeat after somebody else exactly what they said. And I don't know that you have that in you. I don't think you have that move. Oh, because I'm a terrible listener. Yeah, that might be one spigot I have to jump over. What are the things you're coming up with? Why are you jumping over spigots? Are you like running along a house? And why is that an obstacle at a marriage house? I assume you mean metaphorical spigots and I'm so much more confused. It makes more sense if you're talking about literal ones. I'm just really good with the analogies today. I don't know what to tell you guys. Just make sure you don't slow them down. When we started this episode, I was like, is this a flashback? Am I watching the past? And it was eventually pretty clear that it wasn't the past. Eventually, but how long do you think it took you to understand exactly what was going on? You know, about halfway in. I was just like, I still don't know what's going on. I'm still not convinced this is old news or new news. It was by the time that we jumped into the next scene that I was like, I guess this is what we're doing. I feel like Frasier played this card every so often where they sort of start the episode off kind of mid-scene or mid-story and ask you to just kind of catch up. And it always feels to me like we're getting a previously on moment. And I'm always like checking to make sure that there wasn't like, this isn't just them recapping. This is actually them doing it. Does this one scene make you excited for the season nine finale, Ryan? I don't think that we're going to get much. I don't be surprised if we address this any more than 30 seconds of season nine. Okay. Because this is a reverse watch, I can't imagine you being excited about what's to come because we are getting the big climactic payoff here. The wedding is here. This is the big thing that you build towards. If this episode was just a regular episode with nothing impactful happening, Ryan would probably be going into season nine excited for the big wedding moment. And he's already seen it. He knows it's not coming. So what is there? Wrath by the dog? Also, in watching this in reverse, we know that the honeymoon scene we only get from that weird season 11 episode with the croc. Oh, did they have a honeymoon scene? No, I don't even remember the scene. They come back from the honeymoon in one of the flashbacks. So that is 100% of the honeymoon work we get. I don't know why you would remember this. But you happen to remember in that episode where they said the honeymoon was. Puerto Rico or something. Could it have been Bora Bora? Because Marty in this episode does mention that they're going to Bora Bora. And I just wonder if because we know that the season 11 writers didn't really care about season 10 or watch it. I just wonder if they've just picked a random honeymoon place and didn't even realize Bora Bora had been picked. Oh, you're lucky. I always wanted to go to Bora Bora. How was the honeymoon? Oh, Tahiti was absolute paradise. 90% sure that it was not Bora Bora. I think I would have remembered saying Bora Bora 40 times. I look forward to that later when we get to that scene. Getting back to this scene, the only other thing that I really bumped on and want to discuss is apparently as soon as you leave the chapel, it is to a topless buffet. Yes, I'm glad you brought it up and not me because I probably would have made it creepy. But yes, I don't think you were allowed to bring it up, man. Yeah, I was so happy Curtis brought it up. Thank you, buddy. You always have my back. Yeah, that sounds exciting to me. I was kind of excited to see it. I want to go on record. I am opposed to topless buffets. I think it is repugnant that there would be a topless buffet because part of a buffet is health risk, right? And the issue is when you don't put a cover or a top over the food, you know, you're not keeping the heat in. You know, that can create a really dangerous situation where bacteria can grow. Oh, is that what you think of Douglas? Oh, I thought it was just the staff. I thought you were going to be mad that you thought it was a tapas buffet. Aren't all buffets atop this buffet? Correct. Yeah, probably. We get a title card. Blame it on Reno. Before Daphne and I can share the news, Frazier and Martin express how heartbroken they would be to miss the wedding. Roz arrives and is let in on the lie that they will marry at the courthouse in three days. Can we all agree we don't know what a squash blossom is? So I was going to ask you, Ryan, I felt like if any of the three of us knew what one was, it would be you. I just assume it's not a thing. I assume it's one of those things that the Frazier writers made up. Because we don't have Hannah on this episode, nobody looked it up. Yeah. Yeah. Googling? Googling? Quickly, quickly. Oh, this is very, this is deeply confusing. Oh, weird. So, okay. It looks like it's a flower, but like, you know how a flower, when it's not completely open, it kind of folds up like a little bulb? Yeah. Yeah. It looks like they take the bulb version of it and roast it on like a grill. Oh. Oh, that's interesting. What maniac would think to do that? For the record, that was not me explaining what I looked up and researched and discovered. That is me describing the pictures I'm seeing on Google images. Honestly, really reshapes my view of that. I assume too is being annoying, but if people are roasting squash blossoms, like I'm in. I'll take a shot at it. I'm guessing that the flower they're roasting is like the flower that grows out of whatever a squash plant is. It'd be really weird if it was not that. I mean, Frazier very quickly made this whole thing about himself, about how he had to see his brother get married and how he wanted to take them out to eat. And it's just Frazier being Frazier. Okay. But don't you think if you went off in the middle of the night and got married, don't you think your parents would be a little devastated? All my life. I would have come, Francis. What? If you had invited me, I would have come. My parents, yes, not my brother. Your brother, no. Fine. You don't have the relationship with the Crane boys. That's fine. You are over each other's place every night, though. So I don't know. We do. We live near each other. But I mean, your parents would be devastated. Could you imagine telling your mom you're already married? I think it, well, here's the thing. Wrong way to bring this up to you. Because I think at this point, my parents would be so relieved that I was married. So 10 years ago, Brad, yes. 35-year-old Curt, Brad, they'd be more than happy. Okay. So that's interesting. Because you're right. Niles is probably 10 years older than that. Oh, absolutely. That's actually interesting perspective there. Yeah. Thank you. That's what I'm here for. He's also, this is at least his second marriage. Maybe third. I don't remember what we've learned. He neither. You're right. I don't think Frazier or Marty's reaction here is at all out of line. It's fun the way they kind of interrupt just in the nick of time to not find out that they're going to be really disappointed. But yeah, I think if my brother who recently got married, if he and Hannah went off and did it without including us at all, I don't know if I would be devastated. But I'd be a little confused and a little bit like, what? Why? You wouldn't handle it poorly. Wouldn't handle it great. Well, I've never had anything like that. I did once go to an engagement party that turned out to be a wedding. So that's kind of close to that. That did happen. That did happen. And in Curtis's defense, it was very confusing. I was very confused at first. Well, I mean, that's where you were told you were going to one event and discovered in the middle of the event that it was a different event entirely. Correct. A hundred percent. Well, we got to talk about the dog. She shows up with a dog and it's just like, you want to go for a dog walk. When did she get a Dalmatian? What? Where is this dog? I think this happened before. I think we've seen this dog already. Really? I think this is the second appearance and you guys told me I was insane for it, but I'm like 90% sure we've already seen that dog. Season 11, Frasier, Ryan is dog blind. Season 10, Frasier, I am. Ooh. And then Brad, your next season. That's going to be great. I'm just always fried. Just regular blind. Yeah. I do like the way that Roz comes in all excited and happy for them and they don't drag out the sort of sitcom trope of, you know, she doesn't know that they're lying about this thing and is going to give it away. They very deftly inform her like, no, no, I'll play along. We are not married yet. And she being, you know, Roz just gets it and does play along. Yeah. Isn't the first and last time we've captured Roz's proper voice in the seasons. Oh, insane that they get married in Reno. Like doesn't fit anything we know about Niles Crane, but whatever. Insane that this is, I guess, Daphne's been calling Frasier Dr. Crane and Mr. Crane. That's how you refer to Dr. Crane and Mr. Crane. Insane. We don't know exactly how long they've been a couple, but presumably there's been a few years of it. And even before that, clearly, I mean, this is 10 years into the show. She's been around the whole time. That would mean that she's been living with them for this long and still had to call them Mr. And Dr. Crane. Insane that she had to marry in to get any respect. Yeah. Like it's, you have to assume that they've been doing this for, for nine years, 10 years, right? Like that would be crazy to do with your employer after 10 years that you're going into their house every freaking day. But then to find out like, also you're married, you did have to marry into it. It's just bananas. Like this is crazy. And we have no hint of it going forward either. We have no hint of it in the future episodes. I can understand a, you know, Frasier having a new employee and being like, my name is Dr. Crane. Refer to me as my professional name. Like I can see him being stuffy like that. It's weird to imagine a version of Marty based on what we've seen here being Mr. Mr. Crane. Like I, I, I have a hard time picturing him insisting on that. Yeah. That, that doesn't fit at all. Does make his slave comment from a couple episodes ago a little, a little more sucked. Oh, maybe we don't know Marty very well. Maybe we don't. Like she's very comfortable calling them Mr. And Dr. Crane. She gets really uncomfortable calling them by their first names and kind of immediately reverts back to it. That I get. Like if you've been calling somebody that for basically a decade, it would be impossible to switch. It's insane that Marty hasn't pushed this sooner. Or maybe he has. Maybe, maybe that's what we'll see in the next couple of seasons, but I don't know. This just felt absolutely bananas. Every season opener, there's some way in which Daphne gets more integrated into the Crane family. And every, every season they start with, call me Martin. And she's just like, okay, Mr. Crane. At the end of the scene, there was some weird Roz, Daphne, Niles energy again. Sort of sexy having an anniversary only the two of us know about. Three of us. I still can't believe we're married. It's our one day anniversary. And we're the only ones who know. You know, we should celebrate. How about going to the dog park? That doesn't sound very romantic. I'm not talking to you. And this is such a, such a ridiculous lead into the next episode. The next episode is the Melange stuff, isn't it? Or is that two episodes from now? That's two episodes from now, but yeah. Just some weird energy to start this season, but somehow doesn't carry forward into, you know, even ep four. Yeah, they didn't really give the impression that there was any kind of callback happening in the Melange episodes. At the courthouse, Gert finds out that this wedding won't involve a minister and puts her foot down. They accept Gert's ultimatum until she leaves and then get married again anyway. Brad, I know what you were thinking. What a nice courthouse. I did like the courthouse. You know, I love a good courthouse. I know. Thank you. As the only person on this podcast that I've been sworn in to public office as a notary, I've been to a courthouse before and I got sworn in. So I know what it's like. I investigated a courthouse wedding and from everything I could see, at least in Chicago, the room they do it in looks much more like a sad waiting room than this did. This seemed quite nice to me. Well, this was in someone's office and the actor is played by American actor Ron Canada, who's been in a love show. Ron Canada. Ron Canada. Everything's from Ron since Ron Canada came along. Alice, we actually got to see her. Yeah. Ryan, you've got an opinion on this. I forgot who she was. When Roz mentions it, I think later, she's like, oh yeah, yeah, she's a person. Whatever. We don't see her again for 20 episodes. Can anyone explain to me why Roz is the one giving Gert a ride? No, that made no sense and no direction. Taffany was like, I know we live together, but I just don't even want to even put a car with you. So Roz is coming. Bye. This also did kind of, this means we got Gertrude probably next season too, which is, I think at the start of the season, very surprising. But as we're wrapping this up, it's not, she's got a lot of, it seems like she's got momentum. She might be in for all of next season. That is in play. She also, I figured out what her role is. She makes Marty look so much more tolerable. Like they must've realized they stepped in it with a Marty character like two seasons ago. And they're like, let's introduce Gertrude. Who's just so horrible. Pretty much every step of the way. Just to make him, you know, like she's the sugar of the Marty pill to swallow. I didn't follow that metaphor. Let's leave the metaphors to Brad, please. Brad, do you help me out here? Yeah. Um, what's a good one? It's... Why are metaphors so difficult tonight? Ripping, ripping the bandaid off of an open scar. It's kind of like that. It's kind of like that. I hate the interaction with Marty here, because he kind of runs to defend them and be like, I favor a church wedding too, but this is their day, not ours. Maybe we should just let them decide how it's going to be. If people got to decide things for themselves, no one would go to church. Does he seem like a church going man to any of you? Old fashioned matey, but... I think he's just, he looks old. He knows that he's just trying to manipulate Gert. Okay. I can buy that. There's no chance Marty would want to go to church for any stretch. Great line out of Gert though. If everyone had their way, no one would go to church. The woman speaks the truth. Is that normal for you as a Christian person? As a young Catholic, yeah, I would never have gone. You can tell, because as an old Catholic, I'm not gone. Okay, great. I can't prove this. I have no evidence to back this up. I don't want to say it anyway. I suspect most, even deeply religious people who are devout, probably as young kids, just didn't want to go. It's not fun, you know? It's not like a grooving time. It's a lot of people sitting... And what the heck are you from again? The one where we need sugar to help our medicine go. You know, it's a very mundane affair. It's very even keeled. The most excited you tend to get is when you go, ah. Now, okay. So getting back to the scene. I think that I'm assuming, Ryan, at this stage of the episode, you figured out what this episode is going to be, which is they're just being married over and over again, right? Yeah, because we are doing the thing, as discussed a couple times, we're following a very predictable path from this point onwards, right? We don't get really many swerves. Again, like season 11, they would have swerved us, but we don't. Whether or not this is going to turn out to be a good episode really hinges on the execution because the plot is fairly predictable from this point on. I think when you get the rings switch in the second scene, that's fun. Love it. It's the second time around. When we get it this time, it's really nice. Like, okay. We all see what we're doing here. We're just going to do it, and that's fine. I think we are going to execute well. Let's see. It's also a bit of, like, we were complaining about why is Roz driving Gert, but we know why, because the writers needed some reason for both Roz and Gert to not be in the scene. They needed somebody to not know the wedding happened. Well, I guess canon-wise, someone probably, she doesn't have to go with them. There's probably, like, extra paperwork they have to fill out, so she does want to show up late. Roz probably would be the go-to. Strong Daphne episode. I'm going to say that. We get a lot of her. This is really, I think, I think she, this is her third most usage of any episode, I believe, and she's great. As always, she's great. I don't know why we don't get more Daph. You're not wrong, because I was just about to say, when you say this is a great Daph episode and it's a lot of screen time for her, I was like, yeah, every time she gets a lot of screen time, she's great. Like, whenever they use her, she's great. Why don't they use her more when she's always great? Yeah, I don't know. I don't have a lot of examples of her missing. Why have a lot of examples of her missing? I don't have a lot of examples of her doing poorly at being funny. Yeah, she's MIA. She's never, uh, she's never thrown a bricks. After a celebratory dinner, Gert shows up to make amends and rescind her ultimatum. So, a third go is arranged. This scene starts off with Marty complaining off the fact that Frasier bought him dinner. Like, it just encapsulates Marty to the T. Why I am annoyed with him endlessly. Yeah, this has to be a really good episode for you being a Marty, a Marty hater, because he does not help his case at all. No, he's doing switch shifts. So, he's either annoying or he's, like, really helpful to Daphne and Niles. So, I wish we didn't get those parts, because if he's just annoying, I can hate on him. But they balance it out too much this episode. I don't like it. This is actually the scene where we find out that she's allowed to call them Frasier and Martin. The scene where they know their man. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, she calls him Dr. Crane in the first time round. It was like, what the fuck is this? Yes. Yeah, it's just noticeable in the last scene. In this one, they correct her. No, it was noticeable in the first time. That's what I'm saying, yeah. Like, what the hell is this? Like, why is she calling him that? And then they do address it. I forgot they addressed it later. I wrote not. Oh, go ahead. I wrote not. Let's hear your note. Maybe we're the same one. This is what happens when you watch the show, like, many, many days before. Yep. I just have a note for a line. It says, poke out my mind's eye. I remember the joke. Yes, I said Niles is a creep as always. And I didn't know what that was about. I'm pretty sure it sounds like a Frasier line. So I'm sure Frasier said it. Frasier's responding to what Niles said. But I don't know. I wrote down naked Niles. Oh, wait, wait, wait. Oh, naked Niles. It was something about nudity. Let's all just react as if we just remembered and heard the clue. And then comment on. Oh, okay. Oh, that makes sense. I think I do remember. I think he's talking about how he wants to be naked. He only packed his swimsuit for his honeymoon. Oh, yes. That is exactly right. Yeah. He makes some comment. Daffy's going off to pack for the honeymoon. And he's like, I'm just going to bring my suntan lotion. That's what it is. Yes. And his face while he's making it. He's just so proud of himself. Oh, yeah. He's so gross. Glad we figured that one out, guys. Teamwork. Yeah. They work together. We make one whole podcast together. This is, you know, a very nice celebratory one year of the podcast. We're going to really highlight the teamwork that is this show. Oh. So Gert comes back and just goes, you know what, Daff? I'm sorry. If you don't want to do it in church, it's fine. I can't miss my daughter's wedding. Great. It's weird, though, right? Like, we don't see this side of Gert ever again. We see it once. She helps. She helps Daphne middle of the season. She, like, really is a mom for, like, 12 seconds. This is the second time we've seen that. Oh, you mean when she's like, get your husband back in the sack? Yeah. Right. Yeah. I guess. Real motherly stuff. Oh, and she's just trying to, she's like, Daphne, look, if you get married, you can get to your honeymoon and get your husband back in the sack. So she's just trying to get them to. Wouldn't be out of character. That's her only motivation. You're really insane. So we give Roz a lot of credit for yes anding. But Frasier, also excellent yes ander. And we get to see that in Full Force here. Well, we also get this great moment where he's conferring with Niles. Niles, what you and Daphne shared today was utterly unique. You think so? Yes, it was a singular moment. Anyone fooled by a repeat performance would have to be a complete imbecile. True. Only a complete fool. I thought that was fun. Yeah, it was fun. Actually, he said, I believe he said a complete imbecile. Imbecile. It's a more fun word. Brad, say imbecile. Let's hear it. Imbecile. You said that as if you were Spanish and you were describing a town called Basile. I'm imbecile. Imbecile. When I'm imbecile, I get the muscles. Yeah, yeah. Words are my friend. Back at the courthouse, we meet Daphne's ex-fiancé, Donnie. Who invites himself to the wedding? Niles phones in his vows, triggering Daphne to call out this lie. Donnie gloats, ruining his own engagement. When everyone complains about missing the real one, Marty sends them off on their honeymoon. Did you say fiancé? Yes, he did. Was that in the scene? Yes, it was. Yes, it was. He had a whole freakout about it. There's a lot to process, all right? It was a blink and you'll miss it moment. But he absolutely does acknowledge that they were engaged. Yes, correct. I was like, I was already just so thrown by that point. Just like, who is this guy? Wait a minute. Wait a minute. When he freaks out. That's what I'm saying. He freaks out. His whole point is that now Niles knows how it feels to be left at the altar by Daphne. Like, he says that. We know that is going to happen. I can't go through with this. Yes! I knew it! Now you know what it's like to have the love of your life dump you at the altar! Oh, yeah. That did get said. You think they weren't engaged yet? I don't know. Maybe that's just a different... Maybe he keeps running into her at courthouses and she keeps messing up other weddings for him or something. Can I say the actor that played Donnie? I guess. Please. Sal Ribbineck. I know that I was getting married last time you ran into me, but... Just don't count me up too quickly. I had you in my collection once. I can have you there again. All right. And then the actress that played his fiancée was played by American actress Twink Kaplan. Cool. Cool name. I just wrote former Daphne date. That's how confused I was. Like, I was just like, who is this dude? What is happening? Ex-fiancée, they make that very clear. Yeah. He's so schlubby looking, too. And he's just, like, he's clearly annoying and everyone... Everyone reacts, like, super weird. Where they just all, like, dip out. I'm not handling this. So, obviously, we see him in the past, I have to assume. It'd be really bananas if all of this stuff happened offscreen. Is that now what you would expect Daphne's ex-fiancée to look like? Not at all, yeah. Okay. Like, Niles is already a little too short for Daphne. This guy is very short. Very stubby looking, man. That's apparently her thing. Shorter the better. Yeah. Niles is not as wide as that guy, right? Well, I don't mean short. I mean beta. Niles is real weird with that stuff. Like, he flips back and forth. This guy, clearly. Yeah. He's just giving in to whatever Daphne's got going on. I don't know. It's really hard to picture those two, like, in a relationship, though. Like, it doesn't really make any sense. Bear in mind, this is a recasting. So when he shows up later, he'll be played by Fabio. Are you spoiling? No. Okay. I mean, I knew you were making a joke, but, like, maybe they did. I don't know. Yeah, don't make jokes like that, Curtis. You don't know. You don't even know. You don't know. You'd be surprised how much I don't know about seasons one through nine of Frasier having watched all of it. I would be so mad if they recast Fabio and the guy wasn't doing a horrible Fabio impression. Like, that would be really disappointing. He's on the cheesy romance novel, so, I mean, with some cheesy pose sitting there. It's beyond me. So Alice is a flower eater. That's weird. I mean, that's probably why we don't see her for 20 episodes. Probably in the hospital. Like, I don't have any investment in her as a character, like, at all. Because she's been in literally three episodes mentioned one other time. Do we know how old she is? Yeah, she's six in the finale. Okay. So she's probably five here. It's reasonable to assume that, yes. Or maybe even four, depending on, because that's the end of one season, and this is the beginning of the previous season. Math. That's what our, I'll say customers, that's what our listeners tune in for. Math. Curtis doing math is our niche market. Honestly, if there was a podcast of me trying to do math, it might be funny. It might be a hit. That's the, that's the, your version of Brad reading menus. Curtis does math. It's the whole show. He does the menu. I try to pay Bill and do the tips. And Ryan tries to come up with analogies. We got an answer. They do have a really fun bit where it's just everyone's complaining. And then they're like, Daphne asks them something and they're like, well, of course, it's all about your happiness. Of course, we're wondering what happened, which is how you, is exactly how it would be, right? Yeah. Well, and I think, I think you were alluding to this earlier, Ryan, but then Marty has to be the voice of reason. How could you tell Roz and not your own family? You have two weddings without telling your mother about one. How could you cheat Alice out of being a flower girl? We just wanted to be married. Hold on. I got a question here. You've been married for a week. How come you're not on your honeymoon? I see what you're doing. It's pretty good, Marty, but also you're annoying. Well, what's nice is he addresses them. Like, he's not saying to the crowd, you all need to leave them alone. He's saying to them, you don't need to listen to these fools. Get out. I don't. But it seems to work. His words help everyone else. And then we get one last little lie from Daphne. Just felt wrong to start off a marriage with a lie. Was the first one, at least, in front of a minister? Of course. I did like that, yes. It was nice. That's part of the trouble with talking about this episode is, for one, we saw it four days ago. And for two, the lines are good. They're just like, they're nice. They're crisp. But there's nothing to, like, discuss. They're just well done. Because sometimes it just devolves into us saying the lines we liked. Just, oh, and this line was good. Which can't be interesting. And it isn't. That's not interesting. Frazier plays this out to wedding number four. For the benefit of flower eating girl, Alice. Wedding number four. Yeah, this one was stupid. Yeah. They're doing another wedding for the benefit of Alice, right? The girl who wanted to get to be the flower girl. That's who this is for. Alice doesn't care. They could have. Roz could have done this by herself at home. And it would have had the same effect. Ryan, you've got a kid and another on the way. Do you disagree with that assessment? No. 100%. Okay.

Looking up squash blossoms

It'd be really weird if it was not that.

segment type: episode evaluation commentary Context outside the activity. reviewed full source context: Well, Brad, was this a good episode for you? Yeah. So, obviously, at first, I had to deduct some points because there was no coffee shop. Oh, yeah. You handled that well. Look at you. That's annoying. Thank you. We should just be proud. I remembered to bring it up. Number two, I think the biggest thing for me is usually the episodes where we have only five scenes, we get stuck. Like, I feel like there's one scene that kind of takes over. And this one, I felt like all five kind of flowed pretty well. So, I was excited about that one. Like, it felt like five scenes, but it didn't feel like five long scenes. So, all in all, I think this is a pretty decent episode. I'm going to give it one of my higher scores. I'm going to give it an A-. For me, I would say I'm ranking this kind of middle of the pack. This is 21 out of 47. It's almost a new, that's almost a new number for you. Good job. Almost. I actually checked because I was like, is this one of those numbers I say a lot? And it's surrounded by lots of season 11. So, multiples of seven, that's my thing. So, I liked it better than the detour episode with the dead grandma. But I would rather watch Fraternal Schwinn's with him learning how to ride a bike. Oh. Okay. Ryan, what did you think of this episode? This was one of those weird upside down ones. It was just like with the Niles post-hospital one where it was like, this is just a wild turn that I was not ready for. I don't think I ever recovered from the first scene. You know, I mentioned it. There was some predictable pattern after they established what this episode was going to be. Nothing was shocking in the back half, which I do like to be a little surprised. But it was well executed. You know, I think everything they did, they did very well. Yeah. Daphne did good. As we mentioned, she's always great. Frasier was actually pretty good. Niles was pretty good. It was a generally good episode. I'm going to say it was a solid eight, eight, one. Okay. Ryan, you said not too long ago that you have a hard time believing you're going to be giving out any ones or twos or threes in this show. And, you know, it's got kind of an even keel of quality that isn't going to dip too low. And I think that's true. Like I'm putting this middle of the pack, but that is not really calling it the dregs. Like this is not a skip. Like I wouldn't like it. I would not call this like a skip it. It's not that good. And I wouldn't be like, oh, this one sucks. It's perfectly fine. It just doesn't rise to the level of like amazing. Yeah, a hundred percent.

Hold on. Now for a segment. We are, uh, okay. I'll be honest. Uh, it's been a long season and, uh, fellas, I, I'm, I'm out of gas. I got nothing for this, for this one. What? I can't believe that. Thank you for your acting proud. Curt, Curt, Curt, wait up. I just got back from talking to Kenny Powers. Ryan's here. Curt. I was just talking to Kenny Powers. You're not going to believe this. I am not going to believe it, but I just tell you, Brad's acting horrible. You sounding like you're out of breath. Really good. You're doing a great job with that. That I've literally run from talking to Kenny. Uh, you're not going to believe this. He's getting married. Oh, good for him. I got bad news though. I kind of panicked. I signed us up to be the wedding planners slash coordinators. Oh. Oh. Oh, we can do it. Let's do it. It's also the wedding. You're agreeing to this really fast. The wedding's tomorrow, Curt. The wedding's tomorrow. We don't have time to think. Yeah, we have no choice. We have no choice, Curtis. We have to get this done. Let's do it. Yay. I made Power Ranger van motions when I said that. I did a fist bump. You know, I did a scoopy bump. Are we all in our tuxes now? It's after six. What am I, a farmer? Yes. Whenever I say suit up, I just appear in a tux. I'm glad you guys aren't nervous. I thought you'd be a little nervous when I said that. Because I panicked signed us up. But you seem fine with that. So that's good. We trust you. Ask us after this segment's over. But right now, we trust you. Let me just be clear about one thing. When you are throwing a wedding, especially one that's impromptu, especially one that's last minute, especially one that has had no real pre-planning or poor thoughts whatsoever, the chances that any wrench is going to be thrown into this and give us trouble is virtually nil. We're fine. Nothing but confidence from this end. Okay. I like where your head's at, Curt. But first problem, where are we going to have this thing? Obvious. This isn't even hard. Either the KACL Studios or the coffee shop or Frasius apartment. Those are the spaces that we've got. That's good. That's really good. We're not going to build a new set for this. That's not necessary. I agree with Curtis. But the one place he did not mention is, I think, where I would get married. And that's Niles' apartment. I thought you were 100% going to say the synagogue. No. Niles. Can we do the furniture store variant? Yes. Yes. Let's do that. Absolutely. Absolutely. Because the couches are already there. That's a good idea. Exactly. You need the seating. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So Curtis, warp us to the next day. All right, guys. We've got six hours to plan this thing. Should be easy. We've all been to weddings. We know how weddings work. This should be no problem whatsoever. Brad, when at Jewish wedding, when do they do the circumcision? The circumcision usually happens after the brisket serve. Just kidding. Should we start with that? Is that how we should kick things off? Let's circumcise Niles. I think that's it. Or I'm sorry, Kenny. Let's circumcise Kenny. We really were to circumcise Niles. You have been chosen as tribute. We're circumcising the groom? Okay. Good to know. You tell us. We don't know how your end works. Your end? What are we planning here, Ryan? Well, we've got to walk through. Okay. All right. We know how weddings work, right? What's the first thing that happens at a wedding? Pictures? No. Pictures is just the first thing that happens. What event are you going to? So we've got to have a minister, right? This is going to be a proper church wedding, I assume. In a furniture store. Of course. Yeah. Who can we get for that? Is the Pope available, you think? I don't think he's available for Kenny's wedding. Hmm. I'm really sure of the ranching knife like him. Who's the big minister from Texas? Dr. Phil. Minister. No. I'm going to just stop right there. I just said it. We should get Dr. Phil to do this thing. Yes. Let's get Dr. Phil. You know he's available. Okay, good. Okay, but what if Dr. Phil says something like horrible? How do we handle that? Like, for instance? Brad? Brad, that's where you give a charming Southern aphorism. Hi, I'm Dr. Phil. And I... That was the whole aphorism. I'm Dr. Phil. Why is he introducing himself at the wedding? And I can't do this wedding anymore, so you have to get Judge Judy. Oh, no. What if Dr. Phil dips out but then gives us Judge Judy? That'd be enough good. Actually, Judge Judy would be great. He's going to do that in the middle of the ceremony? Curtis, now you have to do your Judge Judy voice. No, you're an idiot, sir. Connor, why were we worried about this segment? This is just pure gold. All right, all right. Okay. So we've got Judge Judy tag-teaming with Dr. Phil. Not tag-teaming. Oh, I guess tag. Yeah, I guess he does tag her in. I'm sorry. Sorry for correcting you. Yeah, come on. When it comes to wrestling analogies, we know that's Curtis's thing. Okay. We'll just have to assume they know how weddings work. We don't have to prep them, I don't think, right? No, I think they're good. Absolutely not. All right. So what happens next? What else do we need to worry about? Well, so we need rings. Is that it? I think. We got to get some rings. Rings. Yes. Brad, work on that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So do you want center-cut diamonds? Do you want circle diamonds? Do you want a square diamond? Do you want six cars? I forgot you worked at Target, at the jewelry store of Target. Which I don't think they have anymore. Correct. Yeah, so we get Target rings. Wait, is it got like red and an outer layer that's white and an outer layer that's dressed? Oh yeah, it's got the bullseye on it. Did we get whatever the rollback deal at Target is? Yeah, yeah. I think the rollback deal is for Walmart. I was about to say, do you mean the blue light special? No, no, that's, that's Kmart. You guys do discounts? Yeah, we do bullseye discounts. I don't, I don't know why we're saying, you guys, I don't work at Target anymore for the record, but the bullseye deal of the week is two rings. And a side of chicken nuggets. Yeah, eight and a half. And you get a slurpee. Okay, you get. Ooh, I like a slurpee. Did you say eight and a half, like that's the ring size or that's how many nuggets you're getting? Sorry, eight and a half carats. Oh, okay. I thought you said that was like the finger size. You have to get, it's like, it's really, you know, it's this size, but you get it for cheap. And a large, I see. For the record, we are at Target. So I think we should swing around a grocery and get eight and a half carats. Yes. Oh, good. Yeah. So that everyone involved in the ceremony can hold one. Yeah, those would be orange carats, but yes. We don't have time to get candles. So. Oh, do we? We're at Target. I mean, why can't we swing by the candle section? Ryan, it's on the other side of the store. Do you know how big Targets are? We do not have time. You know, the Zappany Tumbo. Oh, yeah. Karen, I've been lost in a Target. I can be lost again. It'll be fine. But I do not have time for you to be lost in a Target. Let me tell you that. That's true. That's a true fact. I did not think that when I signed us up for this, that we'd be in Target this long. I think we're in too long. Is there anything else you should grab before we leave? Boot in the ears. Yeah, we can grab some boots in the ears. We can grab some picture frames. When I worked at Target, we did not sell ping pong balls. Did we get them a card? What are you going to write in the card? Now, we're the planners. We don't have to do that. Yeah, the cards at Target are kind of expensive. All right, let's do a quick sidebar to the Dollar Tree. All right, Curt. Womp us over to the Dollar Tree. Do you guys know what tool is? I think we need tool. Tool? Tool. The band? Oh, that's a great idea. We don't need a DJ. We need a band. The band we're getting is tool. No, like it's like it looks like I don't know how to describe it. It looks like a shitty curtain. You know, like it's just very see-through. You know, you guys know. You know tool. Oh, God. I googled wedding tool and all I'm getting is gardening tools. No, no, you have to put an E at the end. Oh, why? Because that's how it's spelled. I don't know. Are you just talking about wedding dresses? This just looks like wedding dresses. It looks like wedding dress, but it's not. It's separate from the dress. It's detached. We're going to get some tool. We're going to tool it around. I know what you're saying. This is the kind of lacy fabric that you like. Lacy fabric. You have it sort of dangling from the ceiling and trying to make things look fancy. You can put this shit everywhere in all kinds of ways. Was not expecting you to get so excited about the term lacy fabric. We don't have time to find linens, right? We don't have time for linens for the tables. Let's just get extra tool. Yes. Oh, great. It is not good at catching food, but. It's a little bit see-through. So you're going to see the like folding cables. It's an incredibly porous material. It's all we have time for. I'm sorry. I'm sure it's really cheap. I don't know how much it can possibly cost. It's like not a fabric, right? Like it's got to be cheap. I'm in the like curtains aisle and I'm just not seeing it. So. Of the dollar tree. I'm just going to run to the paper product section, get some napkins, get some tissue paper, get some toilet paper. That'll do. It'll do. Let's teepee this wedding. Oh, I thought you were going to cut like tool. You're going to like snowflake cut the teepee. So it looks kind of like tool. Lord knows we don't have time to make a million toilet paper snowflakes. Are you kidding me? We're trying to make this special and magical. Why can't we do? Brad, can you do a couple of snowflakes? Right. If we had like two weeks. Sure. We're going to do a million snowflakes out of toilet paper, but we've got a day. No, no. We got four, four hours. Oh, geez. I thought you would have been to make a snowflake sound effect. You just. Okay. You were going to physically make them. Love for you to make a snowflake sound effect. That's how they sound when they're falling. I'm now deeply concerned you hear that music when snow is happening. Yeah. You got, you got a mental disease. You're getting that. It sounds like a super fun one. Ryan, four hours. Let's get back on track. Oh, just shit. We need flowers. We only have four hours. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I got you. I got you on the flowers. Okay. Yeah. We're getting red and white petunias. I don't know what that is. I honestly don't know if that's a flower. We're going with the target themed. So obviously it's red and red. No, I see. Thank you. I actually haven't been paying attention to this segment. We're going to do red and white petunias. Okay. They're going to be from a local place in Baltimore. I'll ship them. It's called Flower and Fancies. Shout out Flower and Fancies via Sponsor Fairs. Is that a real store? It is. It is. And is it a real flower? It is. More importantly, you've done so little for this podcast. It's been a year. I'm making this sincere request. I want you to call Petunias and Fancies or whatever it's called. Flowers and Fancies? Flowers and Fancies. I'm going to call them and say, look, we've got a podcast. We're going to shout you out, but we would love for you to sponsor the episode. How much money will you give us? I'll see the guy on Wednesday. They deliver flowers all the time. The donations only give her in flowers. Okay, well, you need to get them to be a sponsor of reverse psychology. I thought we'd be more into the place where we have to do the planning, but we have not got there. Petunias, we've got an hour and a half before go, so let's go. What else do we need to plan, Ryan? I think we've got a good enough ceremony. We don't have anything for the reception. Except for our linens. We've got the linens. No, I thought we'd have the bands. I thought we were going with Tool. Oh, Tool, we got Tool. Okay, we're good. We're good. We don't need food, but that's okay. Should we talk about food? We should get food. We should probably get some food. Are we continuing with the Target theme? Because if that's it, then it's Icy's. To be clear, it's been well over a day, and we have not left Target. Thankfully, it's a 24-hour one. Well, yeah, we'll get Target food, so we'll get day-old pretzels. Okay, perfect. We'll get popcorn that's been sitting there all day long. Obviously, Slurpees. Obviously, salads that's sitting out. If we do a Slurpee with vodka poured in, sort of like a DungleJews type of thing, I think it can work. That's fun. That's a lot of fun. I like the Target theme. I'm okay with some Target food for the reception dinner, but we're going to need a cocktail hour with something more appetizer-y. I think you should go back to Flowers and Fancy and ask for some eaten flowers. We need some eaten flowers for this bitch. You're trying to say edible flowers instead of just eating flowers. Oh, but sure. Yeah, why is that what I meant? That's fine. I will take care of the eaten flowers. I genuinely forgot edible was a word you could use or have. That's fine. I got your back. Okay, so we've got dinner. We've got booze. We've got linens. I'm going to emphasize the linens. We got tools. We got a band. I think we're good, right? That should be everything in a wedding. Oh, shit. Wait. Do we need- We've got a dance floor. Oh, we've got his furniture in the way of everything. I assume some of the couches are those conversion couches where you can flip them into other furniture. Yeah, and also, going back to the point of this, I don't see Kenny as much of a dancer, so I don't think we have to have a huge dance floor. Oh, no. He's got that dad shake, you know, that like sort of- I'm kind of doing it now. You can kind of like run, like miming a run. You don't need a lot of space for that, though. Yeah, true. Yeah. I think everyone can kind of have their own little- Do we need a whole floor, Curt? I don't know if we need a floor. No, I don't think we need a floor. You can just dance around the tables. I think we can't just be like, everybody start dancing. It's ridiculous. That's not going to work. You need a dance floor. But because we don't have a dance floor, we have to improvise. So we're in a furniture store. All we've got is a ton of couches and chairs. Let's do a the floor is lava dance. Oh, my God. What is that? Can we do that? That sounds amazing. Like poor girl in a wedding dress, but like what a fucking cool day that would be. Yeah, that's the move. What if we just make that the whole reception? Like you got to get food, but floor is lava rules and everyone's in like nice clothes. Oh, my God. This is- Curt, we've got a show on our hands. We got to stop this pod right now. We got to go shoot this for Netflix. The wedding floor is lava. This is the last episode we've got of season 10, and there's no guarantees we're going to continue on to season nine. We don't know what's going to happen. Yeah, wedding floor is lava. We're definitely doing that now. Oh, my God. What a great idea. I guess we should wrap up this wedding thing. Do we miss anything? The wedding is coming to a close. Wait, we need cake. Oh, shit. Yeah, fine. We would do a red velvet cake with white icing. Oh, you're annoying. Annoyingly unbeam, yeah. So good at the Target theme, guys. So good. Brad, here's the problem. Target's out of red velvet. Oh, no. You want to get the cake from Target. That would be crazy. Yeah, for sure. Oh, my God. Next door to the Target is this restaurant. What if we got restaurant cake? Do you think they'll have red restaurant cake? We can get red dye from the Target and just sprinkle it onto the chocolate cake they've got for restaurant cake. Yeah, no one will notice. That's fine. That works. I mean, that's going to play. People love restaurant cake. Yeah, that's called teamwork. Woof, woof. Guys, I think we've done it. Okay, but there's one problem. Oh, no. There's one problem. See, everybody's had their fill of restaurant cake and flowers. Everybody's drunk off their ass dancing on pillows. But the problem is sometimes weddings just peter out. People kind of slowly leave throughout the night. You know, it just gets fewer people. The dance floor gets abandoned. It doesn't have a big, bold ending. It just kind of ends. I like where this is going. Is that what we want for this segment? Fuck no. So what do we do? How do we end the wedding? I'm thinking canons. Canons? Canons. Are those to code? No, they won't be to code. You remember how Frasier's... Whose wedding was that? Yeah, Frasier's. How did the show end? Marty's wedding. Not Marty's. Marty's wedding. You remember they had an ornamental canon? Oh, that's right. That's a real... You're doing a real reference. I wasn't at first. I was not at first. Stumbled into it. I just naturally think of gemins. Well, we got non-ornamental canons. These ones will work. We'll have... What do you do with a canon? We'll shoot something. We'll shoot something. Maybe take out a car? I don't know. That seems fun. Oh, take out Frasier's car. Oh my God. I got it. The bride takes her flowers. She got comedians. They were great people at flowers and fentanyl. What was it called? It was fair. It's not fentanyl. That would be horrible. She's got her bouquet. She's got her bouquet. And she tosses it back. But she's not tossing it to a crowd full of other women who are going to catch it. She yells pool, throws it back, and they shoot the cannon at the bouquet. Not how it'd normally end a night for a wedding, but that is really cool. I do think we should do that. I think it's a great idea. And that is how wedding... That's how wedding... You know what? And that is how wedding... How wedding. Yep.

In an effort to make the brand more human-friendly, QAnon signs on for Masked Singer Season 65. Oh, I thought you were going Star Trek with it, and you went real dark. No one understands Star Trek. And finally, Curtis will finally appreciate a sport. Unlikely. We also get Frasier Season 2. Oh, man. You know what? I don't know if that's true. I don't think it's going to be a bad year.

segment type: signoff and postshow banter Preserved conversation context only. response context: I was inspired by Brad's bad work at the start of the episode. reviewed full source context: Well, that will do it for us. Thank you to Kevin Convert, Senior News, and thank you for listening, probably for the best if you don't bother going to Apple Podcasts and doing the things that you're supposed to be doing there. For myself, for Ryan, and for Brad, appropriate morning. We'll see you guys in 2024. Is that true? I couldn't comment on that. Is that true? Where are you right now? Get out of the bathroom, Brad. Give me one second. I'll mute. Just mute. You don't have to announce the muting. Oh, God. What are you doing in there? We're talking to old people. I think Brad got a little excited. One minute. One minute. He never, like, learns that just either let us know to give him a minute or abstain from talking while you're doing your business. Insist on attempting the echoey bathroom chat. He's the Marty of our podcast. He just doesn't know what's going on and tries to pretend he does. Who's the Gert, then? What's the sugar that makes the medicine go down? It's a price. As I started it, I realized it doesn't work very well, but I have to finish it or else I'm just called Gert sugar. Your whole point is that Gert is worse than Marty. So presumably she should taste terrible. But then you called her sugar to make the medicine go down, which is the opposite. Which also, like, makes Marty sound useful. It's just nonsense. Yeah, it was bad. I was inspired by Brad's bad work at the start of the episode. I was like, you know what? I can do that. I can do horrible metaphors. Doing horrible metaphors is not like a hobby. It's not just a hobby. Because I had to get that out there, okay? Do not act like making horrible metaphors is so easy, okay? I don't care. Now I'm outraged. Now telling me making horrible metaphors is easy. It's not as easy as it looks on TV. No one even said it was easy.

What does a squash blossom look like?
Ryan initially assumes the term was made up. Curtis describes a folded flower bulb that looks roasted in Google Images, then clarifies that he is interpreting pictures, not giving a researched definition. Another suggestion is simply a flower from a squash plant.

Reconstructing a forgotten note
Curtis reads the note poke out my mind’s eye after losing its context. Brad supplies naked Niles, and the group recalls that Niles packed only a swimsuit and suntan lotion for the honeymoon. Curtis asks for a reaction as though they just remembered; Brad gives both Oh, okay and Oh, that makes sense. The recording confirms the two reactions have the same speaker.

A−, twenty-first, and an unresolved final number
Curtis prompts Brad, who gives A− after praising how the plots flow together. Curtis ranks the episode twenty-first of forty-seven, above Detour and below Fraternal Schwinn’s. Brad hands the rating to Ryan. The recording confirms that Ryan settles on 8.1; it is displayed /10 under the established convention.

Planning Kenny Powers’s imaginary wedding
After the host pretends to have no segment, Ryan enters out of breath with news that he signed them up to plan Kenny Powers’s wedding for tomorrow. Ryan, Brad and Curtis improvise a plan as the fictional deadline shrinks from six hours to four and then ninety minutes. This is a collaborative roleplay with no points, player winner or real booking. Its many choices belong to one unfolding workshop.

RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
A furniture-store version of Niles’s apartment
Curtis offers KACL, Nervosa or Frasier’s apartment. Brad proposes Niles’s apartment; Curtis develops the furniture-store version, which the group adopts because the couches provide seating. A next-day warp advances the fictional clock.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Brad’s Dr. Phil hands off to Curtis’s Judge Judy
Curtis asks the circumcision question; Brad responds with a brisket pun and says he is kidding. Curtis supplies the officiant proposals, moving from the Pope to Dr. Phil. Brad requests both the Dr. Phil and Judge Judy performances; Brad performs Dr. Phil declining the job, and Curtis performs Judge Judy. The group describes them as tag-teaming. These are fictional planning jokes and impressions.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Target rings, nuggets, and eight and a half carrots
Ryan asks about the rings. Brad offers diamond shapes and a Target bullseye deal with two rings, nuggets and a Slurpee. Brad clarifies eight and a half carats; Curtis turns that into orange carrots held during the ceremony. Shopping suggestions include picture frames and a Dollar Tree detour.

RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Tulle, Tool, and a snowflake sound
Curtis proposes Tool as the wedding band after a tulle misunderstanding. Ryan defines tulle as lacy fabric. Napkins, tissue and toilet paper enter the plan when the shopping trip cannot find it. The recording confirms that both fabric and paper are used, rather than paper replacing the fabric. Ryan requests the snow effect. Brad’s snowflake request becomes a sound effect, and the later reception confirms Tool as the band.

Red-and-white petunias and a sponsorship aside
Brad proposes red-and-white petunias for the Target theme and names Flowers and Fancies. Curtis asks about approaching the florist for podcast sponsorship; Brad says he will see them Wednesday. These are a request and future intention, not a confirmed sponsorship.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Target snacks and eaten flowers
The fictional reception menu uses day-old pretzels, popcorn, Slurpees and salads from Target. Ryan proposes vodka in a Slurpee. Curtis asks about appetizers, and Brad agrees to handle edible flowers after the eaten-flowers wording is corrected.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Dad shake, floor-is-lava dancing, and a TV pitch
The furniture obstructs the dance floor. The recording confirms Ryan as the dad-shake performer as well as the previously confirmed Oh, no speaker. Curtis expands the floor-is-lava idea to the reception, with guests reaching food across couches in formal clothes. The group imagines pitching The Wedding Floor Is Lava to Netflix. No game is played and no production deal is established.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Red velvet becomes dyed restaurant cake
Brad proposes red velvet cake with white icing for the Target colors. When the fictional shopping trip cannot find it, Curtis proposes a neighboring restaurant’s chocolate cake and the red-dye workaround. The group accepts the revised cake.

A cannon-fired bouquet gives the wedding a finale
Ryan proposes cannons to end the fictional wedding. After an ornamental-cannon digression, the imagined plan specifies working ones. Curtis proposes shooting the tossed bouquet with a cannon; the group approves and ends with how wedding. This is an absurd fictional payoff, not an actual event or practical plan.

Bathroom echoes and the failed metaphor return
After the sign-off, the others tell Brad to leave the bathroom or mute because of the echo. They compare him to Marty, then return to the Gert-as-sugar metaphor and explain why it reverses the intended meaning. A speaker says Brad’s earlier bad metaphor inspired their own, and the group argues about whether making bad metaphors is easy. The preserved source ends with No one even said it was easy.

Comic episode moment
An officiant voice becomes a Count Chocula voice ↗
Brad’s sleazy-officiant introduction leads to an exaggerated voice, sleepy/sleazy slips and fishing and whaling wordplay. Curtis asks for the later voice, and Brad performs it, eventually calling it Count Chocula. The recording confirms the requester and performer for that passage.
Comic episode moment
Brad helps with the Gert and Marty metaphor ↗
Ryan calls Gert the sugar that helps the Marty pill go down and asks Brad for help. Brad supplies ripping a bandage from an open scar. The postscript returns to why the sugar comparison does not work.
Comic episode moment
Brad is asked to say imbecile ↗
Ryan requests imbecile, and Brad repeats it. The others compare the pronunciation to being in a Spanish town called Basile, followed by a muscles joke. This is a pronunciation exchange, not a scored challenge.
Comic episode moment
A year of the podcast and a teamwork metaphor ↗
The group celebrates a year of the podcast. An absurd relocation riff runs through Rwanda, Nova Scotia and Bangkok before other locations; the preview does not treat it as verified biography. A teamwork prompt elicits Brad’s flower metaphor, with the others reacting to how poorly it works. The full exchange is retained in the source context.
By way of goodbye.

Ryan’s comic forecast for 2024
With Courtney announced for the season wrap-up, Ryan offers recording-era comic predictions: a HomeGoods scandal, hot-air-balloon housing, rising Fine China, a new zodiac sign, a fifth meat, Q-pop involving QAnon, and Curtis appreciating a sport. Ryan first names the sign Quintopolis. Curtis proposes Ford Fiesta rather than Ford Taurus; the recording confirms that this replaces the earlier zodiac name. Ryan adds Frasier Season 2. These are predictions and jokes, not verified developments.
