Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Frasier Rewatch podcast where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we're covering season 10, episode 4, Kissing Cousin, which originally aired on October 15th in the year of Brad's Bar Mitzvah. Is this when the show introduces a new girl? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curtis Schack. Joining me as always, it's our resident Upside Downer. It's Ryan Stansound. I am excited to be here. I hope there is no kissing being done on this show tonight, though. That would be nice. Also with us today is our cool, jaded youth. It's Bradley Kirkston. You know, these intros are feeling getting worse and worse

Okay, I'm going to introduce myself. Welcome in the whole show. I'm not going to do the whole show. I'm just going to do myself. Because you have no idea how to intro it. Our curator of smooth jazz, Bradley Kirkston. I've been saying the same intro for a year, and you don't have any idea what I say at the beginning. Don't even know the name of the show. It's reverse psychiatry. Okay, yeah. Our sexy librarian, Bradley Kirkston. Why are you giving yourself good nods? I thought we were supposed to be shitting on you at the start. Also, what do these have to do with the episode? Oh, you know, fine. We can go with it. We can go with an episode one. Okay, here we go. Our future actor, Bradley Kirkston. Future actor. That's a reference to two of the guest stars on today's episode. They're current actors. That's why they're on Frasier. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Future, future megastar. Do you think Frasier is your life, Brad? I think we're watching this show in real time. We've made so many comments about how it's 20 years ago. You're telling me it's not 2002 right now? I feel like Brad thinking he's living in 2002 actually explains a lot. Yeah. Yeah, he's still a little developmentally behind, but you know, it's more defensible. Also with us today is our guest, Bradley Kirkston. Thank you so much, Curtis. I'm so happy to be here tonight. Really excited to talk about this episode of Frasier. Why don't you just call him like our lame cousin or something? I guess she's not lame. Our overit cousin? How about our tempting kissing cousin, Bradley? That sounds weird. I could have called him Gale the snail, I suppose. Oh, that would have been good. Our too sexy to be our cousin, Bradley Kirkston. Cousins can be sexy, I guess, but that's a weird take. What are you? I just said like, Ryan, I want to, I want to dig deeper into this. Are you saying that everybody is somebody's cousin and therefore attractive people are okay? That makes more sense than some of my cousins are attractive. I wasn't saying that. It was like literally like Kenny has a sexy cousin. We've seen that in the show. He wouldn't say it. I don't hope not, but what you get. That is not, evidence not in play. Yeah, not really how they built that episode, but he never actually said it. Okay, buddy, we need a topic here. I've got a topic that we can discuss at the top of the show. Let's rank the hotness of our customers. Ryan, you go first.

title: Marty check activity request: are we wrong? segment type: character opinion reassessment competition adjudication competition established: False response: B lower: 8; upper: 9 37 38 Retrospective character opinion, not competitive points. response: B lower: 4; upper: 5 38 39 Current character opinion; speaker and scale maximum are unstated. final state summary: no, Ryan's kind of right. result qualification: I'm not 100% on your and Curtis' side yet, but I'm leaning towards there. reviewed full source context: We're going to see in this episode that Marty is behaving very manipulative. And, you know, Ryan, we've given you a lot of shit for your lack of appreciation for Marty. You're in fact, distaste for Marty. But I want to ask the question, are we wrong? Oh, interesting. Marty check. We're going to call this Marty check. Are we doing a Marty check? This episode made me question why I like Marty for sure. For me, because I watched the show, I would have put him at like a eight or a nine because I always loved him. After almost two whole seasons, he's dropped for me a little bit. He's more like a four or five because the way they've used him is just either incredibly creepy, incredibly deceitful, or just like stereotypical old man so far. You've described his best moments. Well, the thing is, we can't give away spoilers, but some of the qualities we see, you know, his opposition to Frasier, for instance, or, you know, he doesn't like the pretension of his sons. I remembered that being kind of charming. He's I think I thought of Marty as sort of somebody who is on our side, you know, looking at these two dandies and and mocking them. But the way it comes off here is a lot less fun. What do you mean? How do you handle protests? You don't suppress them? I mean, I mean, that was one of the craziest lines. That was insane. It really paints a picture of a monster. I also think that especially in this episode, like the PC police has gone up to him. So like there's a lot of things that he did that as kids, we probably thought was funny. But as we've got older, and as people's opinions of things have changed, like, I mean, he has lied in this episode. I'm not going to say it yet, but it's so terrible. Oh, he has multiple. The PC police definitely would would have arrested Marty multiple times this series. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. I'm sorry. I'm confused. If he went to Panama City, the police would arrest him? That's PCB. We don't say we don't just call PC. You go to Panama City Beach. Come on. Okay. Ryan's gone. It's okay. That's great. And you know what? Some of the stuff that happened there, the PC police would not have liked. Marty would have loved. I think at least for myself, I don't think I'm going to be fighting you as hard on the Marty thing. I think I was operating on nostalgia and evidence thus far supports Ryan more than the idea that Marty is a great character. So I think I'm going to have to concede this for now. What moment opened your eyes? Like what was the flashlight moment where you're like, oh my God. It has been a cumulative thing. Early on, there was the crazy, you know, episode where he was like ogling Daphne, his, you know, daughter-in-law. Literally the first episode. Yes. Which is crazy. Take for a moment, like forget whatever you're doing. Crazy way to sign the character off. Like we know this is probably his last line. Like what the fuck were they doing? It's great. It is crazy. And I think I just wrote it off in the moment as like, oh, it was a bad line. It was a weird thing. But you know, I, I was confident it would get better and better quickly. And I think that there's been a slow trickle of evidence that not really, there's some weirdness. And I think recently the fascists protest, you know, squashing line was a real bizarre one. That one's crazy. Even if you like, even as someone who hasn't liked the character, that was crazy. Crazy. He hasn't gotten that much screen time to be honest. So like he hasn't had that many like egregious moments that I was like, that's crazy. But I think that was a recent one that was like, wait a minute, that's weird. And then I think I just paid more attention. And you've been so consistent. Like I really thought within, you know, half a season, you were going to be like, okay, Marty's great. But you've been very consistent. And that was like, well, what is Ryan seeing that I'm or what am I not seeing? Because I've got those nostalgia glasses on. So thinking the last few episodes since the protest moment, and then this episode in particular, I feel like there's been a lot of him being manipulative in a way that's really gross. And it wanted me to run side. Well, where are you at? I'm not 100% on your and Curtis' side yet, but I'm leaning towards there. And we'll get into it. He, I actually think that his line tonight might be the worst. And we'll get to it when we get to that scene. But I think he is lying tonight. That's pretty bad. Okay. Do you think you'll end up slipping towards the side or do you think I'll end up going the other way? I think if you had to ask me right now, I think I'm going to go to the dark side. Wow. You mean the light side because we don't shut down protests. But that's why we're going to check every season in, in 2029, when we release season nine, we will be, we'll be talking about it again. Like you said, Curtis, like you guys definitely thought I would flip very quickly. I remember like the Christmas episode, Hannah was all up in arms and you guys like, yeah, he'll come around. We're not there yet. Nope. I mean, it's, it's literally, you know, we are the, we are the stormtroopers realizing that we are fighting for the empire. Are we the bad guys? Have you noticed that our caps have actually got little pictures of skulls on them? It's concerning, but you know what? You know, you, you grow, you learn, and maybe we'll find the same happens in reverse for Marty. Here's the best thing going for you is Brad didn't double down on team Marty. The fact that he may slip, I think is a good sign for you. That actually threw me because when I, when I decided to bring this up, I thought this was going to be kind of Ryan on one side, Brad on the other, and I was going to be the guy switching teams. It was going to be like a big controversial thing. And then all of us are kind of just like, no, Ryan's kind of right. Yeah. But Brad's usually wrong. So if he's saying like, he might go to egg against Marty, like maybe Marty's a good guy. I just haven't seen it yet. That's what's going to keep your mind open is knowing that Brad's leaning towards your side. That's right. It's going to be like two episodes. You're going to be like, I'm on this side now. Stay over there, Brad. You know what? I see it. He's great. character rating speaker: Brad

Context outside the activity. segment type: episode review and conversational banter reviewed full source context: Well, should we find out just how great he is in this episode? Yes, please. We open with the sun rising over Seattle. Roz's younger cousin has come to town and instantly insults what Frazier holds dear. Wow. Not who I would have pegged for Roz's cousin and not how I would have thought she would act. On the show is American actress for the TV show, New Girl, Zooey Deschanel. What do you mean New Girl? She was the girl from Elf. She was the girl from Elf. She was the girl from New Girl. Her sister was in Bones. I thought we were talking about the girl from 500 Days of Summer. God damn it, you stole it. I was about to say it. So her character in this, she is actually pretty much like the girl from Elf, right? But I'm confused about something. How come she looks older in this episode than she does in real life now? It's that jadedness. She's got such a youthful glow about her in New Girl. Is that what it is? Yeah. She looks 45 in this show. This episode probably wasn't too far removed from the filming of Elf. And it is interesting how she went from the kind of, you know, jaded character. Like that, like this is who she played. And then at some point became like the bubbly one. Yeah. It's hard to picture her as like this kid, like it felt wrong watching it. It's like, this isn't you. So this is actually before Elf. Elf was 2003. Yeah. Like a few months. She meets Will Ferrell, who's an elf. And then that converts her into being like this bubbly, charming person who eats spaghetti for all the meals or whatever. I really do think that's what happened. I think every pre-Elf role was her as this kind of jaded, mean person. And then, you know, Will Ferrell transformed her. And now every post-roll, she's, you know, bubbly and happy. Oh, you think it's Will Ferrell? I just think it's all the same character. The girl you saw in Elf is Roz's cousin. And the girl you saw in New Girl is also Roz's cousin. I agree with that. I'm saying. Okay, okay. I'm saying that she transformed in that movie into somebody who likes the whimsical. I thought you were saying Will Ferrell converted her in real life. And she's like, oh, you can just have fun with life. He sits down with her off set and he's like, look, I know you're a little bit new to the scene. Let me explain something. You're gonna go far. If you can just put on a smile. You're just kind of a bummer. So this scene, you know, she is kind of delightful in the way that she is a miserable person because on at one point, I believe she described her hometown as kill yourself USA. Well, well, correct me if I'm wrong. I've only watched the show two times or three times full Minnesota, right? That's where Roz is from. I thought it was Wisconsin. Same thing. Wisconsin. You're right. Do they say it in this one? Not in this one. I don't think they do. They said it in the episode with the how patterned house, a Habitat for Humanity house. That makes sense why it's Wisconsin. Yeah. I'm surprised, Brad, you're not hopping all over the fourth largest thermometer. That sounds right up your street. Yeah. I mean, that's pretty cool. The fourth largest thermometer. I mean, how big do you think it is? Do you think I could have it? And where are one, two, and three? That's the podcast. What are you going to do with it if you have it? Do you think it's a usable thermometer? Like, do you think the largest thermometer is one you can still use? Wait a minute. What are you going to use? Well, because like a statue could have a thermometer that's, you know, it's just made of stone. You can really check your temp with it. You understand that thermometers are not exclusively for measuring body temperature. You could have a thermometer that just measures the outdoor temperature. Pretty confident they were talking about a weather thermometer and not. Honestly, honestly forgot those exact. Listen, man, I got sick kids left and right. All right. Oh, me have one sick kid and another on the way. I got one sick kid left and right. All right. You think it's the fourth largest working thermometer? It would be very strange to build specifically a really big thermometer and have it just be decorative. Like it doesn't actually function. I mean, it'd be pretty weird to build the fourth largest thermometer anyway. It'd be like building a building shaped like a basket and have it not hold like fruit or whatever. Ah, the good people of Longenberger, you guys are psychopaths. We did get some upside down logistics, our favorite as always. Love logistics. I think you need one to drop for that, Curt. So work on that. Actually, Brad, can you provide him a live one? Yeah. Logistics drop. Whoa. That was terrifying. I was thinking something fun. Oh, hi. Here we go. Here we go. Logistics drop. Logistics drop. We got ourselves a logistics drop. Yeah. Curt, use like a fourth of that. Logistics drop. Logistics drop. We got ourselves a logistics drop. Kenny's been here for like four years. Yeah. Yeah. That's confusing. You think he has been there too long at four years? Are you surprised he's lasted that long? No, no, no. I just assume that that job is not an important one. And they're like, oh, we found a guy we don't have to pay much. Leave him in there. He's not willing to leave. We're not willing to fire him. Just let him keep on keeping on. Well, that means there may be a time where you don't get to see Kenny at all neighbor. Oh, that's, I doubt it. He seems like, he seems comfortable in the world. Well, you know what? We did get his history though, didn't we? We kind of know everywhere he's traveled. Do they say in this episode, whether he is somebody who got promoted into manager role and was already at KACL or was he hired in from outside? Did they, they clarify that or we don't know? No, I, we didn't have an HR meeting with them. So no, that he just explained his brief work history. So unclear. Okay. What would you do? What would you do if Kenny went away? Would you be sad about it? Would you miss him? Or would you be like, whatever? He's a minor character. I'm going to real talk. Yeah. I forget he exists till we see him again. This is an out of sight, out of mind character. I like him on limited minutes, honestly. But every time he shows up, I was like, oh yeah, that guy. Well, and he does get, I'm having a hard time remembering whether it's the best line of the episode, but it's definitely a great one. Kenny, there's no such thing as a healthy superstition. Oh yeah? What do you call washing your hands after you go to the bathroom? That was an amazing line. Also the look he gives, the look Frazier gives back, excellent stuff. Good way to end the scene for sure. Kenny is a bit of a doofus. Like he's not the smartest bulb, but sometimes dumb characters lose their luster. They're just not very funny because they're so dumb that it loses credibility. Like he's not, it's just not clever anymore. But in this case, he's saying something stupid, but it also makes a twisted sense. It kind of works. You can see how a dumb person would logically get there. Yeah. Apparently we might not have a lot of time with them. So maybe they haven't got, if we only have to deal with four seasons of Kenny at like three or four episodes a clip, you only have to get 12 dumb lines out there. Yeah. Frazier's apartment is slightly untidy. This is a big problem that needs an entire subplot. Again, Daphne comes over and is manipulated into cleaning. Logistics drop, logistics drop. We got ourselves a logistics drop. It looks like Daphne moved out not very long ago at all, or these guys are disgusting. Those are the two options we have here. This seed escalates quickly. She comes to just do her job. The next thing I do, she's cleaning up the place and they're trading chores. And she, she volunteers for it instantly. Like, like she doesn't even come. She's not even like bothered by it. She's not like, oh, you guys really, you're leaving these messes in. Well, I guess I'll clean. Like, it's not like that. She's like, oh, hey, great. Something for me to clean. Almost into it. It's weird. Well, okay. So let me just take this from the upside down perspective. Cause we don't know what her job was. We don't know how long it went. It seems like it wrapped up pretty recently. Her caretaker part of being Marty's physical therapist, the role we all know exists. It seems, it just felt very comfortable for her. Like I have to assume that she just kind of fell back into old habits. Absolutely. And I thought that was fine. I'm not criticizing Daphne. I'm just commenting on what unfolds. Yeah. Yeah. But I don't know. You could kind of, if you, if you have, let's say we have to kind of assume a 10 year relationship where this is what I guess nine year where this is what you're doing. It would actually be easy to fall back into horrible habits that led you here because we know Marty's useless, right? Like we know Daphne was doing way too much for Marty, way above and beyond whatever Frasier was paying her. That and she's family now. So it's not like, like she still has a relationship with these people. She's not just an employee who's like, this is not my job description. Clean it up yourself. She's going to be cordial to them. It's actually more fucked up for the same, for that same reason. It's more fucked up that they're taking advantage of her. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Do you want to address it, Brad? Do you see? Oh, I do. I do. How about at the end when Marty says, you're not our slave anymore? More? Yeah. This is interesting. I didn't think it was that bad. I certainly wasn't like, this is the worst line Frasier's had so far. I still think the protest line was worse. Definitely was worse by far, even regardless of how this meant. But the way I took this line was, I assume that Marty didn't want a caretaker, which could be false. Obviously that could end up to be not the case. And I assume he's made fun of Frasier in the past for this. So I thought this, he was just taking a dig at Frasier, not actually calling Daphne a slave. That would be insane. I don't know. No one would write that in. That could be. Now the fact that you guys are coming so strong from the correct way around, very concerning. Well, we all know that you're a Marty apologist. It's a fact with his podcast, whereas me and Brad are a little more skeptical of him. So. As always, the fact that Brad's so against this line means it's probably fine after this scene. It is fun. And I was very thankful that we know, I think it's next episode, right? That Marty gets worked and has to then do a bunch of housework. What? The Agnus episode. Wasn't that last episode or was that two ago? Last episode. You're, I, we're getting confused because we're going to be upside down. You're saying that the episodes we have already seen, but are technically in the future from Marty's perspective. Yeah. Marty gets direct comeuppance from this episode. That is true. That is a good point. You did a terrible job of explaining what you were talking about, but yes. Sorry. Was I, it was, what was the problem? Was I speaking right side round? We've never really settled on appropriate language for how to differentiate the future from our perspective versus the future from the show's perspective. Okay. From the podcast perspective, Marty has really earned it from the past. Like he's done some cleaning. He can now take his out, his angst out on his former slave Daphne. You made it no clearer. Might be a more confusing sentence. I just wanted, I just want to make sure I cleared everything up. Thank you. At the coffee shop, Frasier complains to Niles about Jen. Niles defends her until she insults him too. I gotta say, Jen starts out correct. Like that, Seattle does hate raw sugar. It's very annoying. Is that true? What do you? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. So here's the thing. This scene was hard for me because when I think Zooey J Chanel, I actually think Seattle. Like she has a Seattle vibe in everything else she's in besides this episode. So that was actually a little hard for me when she was like dissing Seattle because I was like, this is the girl that I would picture living in Seattle. Yeah, maybe. Well, I had a Seattle vibe, but you're saying it's Zooey J Chanel? I don't know if I buy that. That'll be a little bit. Yeah. Definitely. That's the vibe, Curt. Come on. Get with it. Yeah. Come on. Come on, Curt. I think she's more Portland. I was thinking Portland too, though. Yeah, fine. She's weird. She's a weird girl. You know? Portland, she would do well in Portland. I just have a problem with a mockingbird. Put a bird on it! I mean, I would still date you, Zooey J Chanel, if you're looking for a weird Jewish guy who's 35 years old. I'm your guy. Brad's is clearly a Portland type, so he's out there. He's available. He's an East Oregon type, for sure. I'm an any city guy at this point. Nah, no you're not, bud. You're a Baltimore guy. You're a one city boy. I'm a Baltimore-on. Yes, that's fun. Why don't we ever use that? I've never told you guys this in the 17 years I've known you, Baltimore-on? You had Crack-ren for my entire knowing you, but you are just now telling us a Baltimore-on? What was it? You can't even say it. It's not easy to say. It's Baltimore-on. It flows right off the tongue. I know how I'm going to get introduced to the next episode. You're assuming a level of memory retention that just doesn't exist. A friend of someone from Crack-ren. Zooey J Chanel's reaction to Niles in this scene is, I think, pretty terrific. Niles! Whoa! Thanks, Mom and Dad, right? Is Niles not a cool name? I'm just like, that is so funny as a way to just mock somebody's name as if you're on their side. Why would he like his name? It is a stupid name. 100% with you. Absolutely. And then she goes on. Tell me about you guys. Ross says you're super competitive with each other. Did your parents withhold affection or is it just a penis thing? Yeah, that line's great. Is it just a penis thing? Is incredible. But that ended the scene. Well, then he went... Should've. Yeah, then he went, can I get my coffee to go? Which was good. I did find myself kind of aligning with Niles, which is incorrect. Zooey was great. Incorrect. Popped the bottom in this scene, and yet I still did find myself being like, yeah, Niles, you should go. For his sake. I mean, this is like a young, a hip, too cool for school, Zooey Deschanel. Niles does not belong next to her, for sure. She does remind you of when you were younger and more annoying. And believe it or not, both of you guys were very annoying when you were young. For this very reason. Like, you do hate things unjustly. And boy, she captures it. Well, and the funny thing is, she's... We might get into it more later, but she's very exclusive. You know, she has very specific opinions. She thinks certain things are really stupid and puts them down very quickly. But she's also, like, willing to, like, have full conversations with these older people. Like, she's, you know, she's willing to connect with them. She's not being overtly mean or shitty. She's just being honest about what she thinks in the moment. That's interesting. Yeah, I didn't pick up on that. Yeah, she's not standoffish to the people. She's standoffish to all of the things they love and care about. But yeah, she is. You're right. She is willing to hang out and try. That's interesting. She also doesn't seem to think... Like, I don't think she knows she's... Like, when she's talking about London and Florence as being over, I don't think she is aware that Fraser thinks very highly of those places. And, you know, will be offended by that. I think if she knew that he would take offense, she probably would bite her tongue. But she's saying it because she thinks he probably either agrees with her or just is ignorant of what it's like there and will want to know that it's over. Oh, man. Oh, you might be onto something here. When she says to us, she doesn't say Niles. That's a stupid name. She says, oh, thanks, Mom and Dad. Kind of like, I'm on your side. Like, you really got hosed. Like, she's palling with him. Well, and when we get to the Freud stuff later, yeah, that's dead on. That's exactly what happens. You're right. She is trying to be endearing to them, but she's just, you know, young with some hot takes. Roz isn't getting any sleep due to Jen going out all night. When Roz suggests the night in, Jen calls her Aunt Maribel, then insults Freud. I just don't see Roz turning down backyard wrestling. I also don't know how you find out about backyard wrestling. I've been a wrestling fan for a long time. It's never once come up. Whoa, whoa, whoa. We got to start with the first slide where he says, this day in psychological history. Did you want to hear what it was? No, I was really focused on the backyard wrestling. Oh, see, I was focused on this day in psychological history. You know all about psychological history. What do you think it was about? That's a great question. You would need to know the day. Yeah, that's true. Take your best guess. Throw in a day of the week and I'll be able to do it. It was this aired on October 15, 2002 in the year of Ben's Warbenspah. It's not warm enough to do backyard wrestling in October in Seattle. Come on, Curt. Tighten up. Yeah, my guess is this day in psychological history, it was probably all about the first time someone was attracted to an orange and they were trying to figure out how to handle it. How do you think they handled it? I don't think they did is the problem. I mean, we know about it, so they tried. They at least told too many people, which was at least one other person. If you went to someone and said, I don't care who it is, if you went to someone and said, I'm attracted to an orange, lock that person up. That's a crazy sentence. Yes, I agree. We should lock them up if they think that. Like, you got to give them credit for trying to get that out. But like, come on, man. You can't be attracted to an orange. It's an edible. I know. I know. I'm not speaking to anyone in particular, but I'm just saying, if you're attracted to any foods, go seek help. And by that, I mean me. Tell me all about it in exquisite detail. It all started when... Jen. Who? Oh my God. So in this scene, though, he dached now. Curtis, you roll your eyes back into the forward position. I was actually really happy with this scene, because we haven't seen a lot of it in the upside down, but we have seen at least a little bit of a hint that Frasier is super into Freud, and I think he has probably referred to himself as a Freudian. But here, she kind of points at something which I believe is very true, that most of his actual theories and ideas were disproven. And it's interesting to see him confronted with that, and it's just straight-up denial from him. Like, he just can't accept that. Well, Brad. Yeah, what up? You know all of the days Freud was either proven or disproven. Can you talk about those in detail? Look, my favorite river in Egypt is denial, so I'm all about it. Oh, that's fun. Another joke you've never heard. Have you never heard that before? Oh, so it's still well-timed. Fun to pull it out there. Rarely are you talking about a person whose brother's name is Niles while talking about it. That is true. I wonder if people made that joke to him growing up. Or in the show. I'm guessing you pulled it from the show. No, that's like a famous joke or whatever. Again, you're not usually talking to someone named Niles, though. I know lots of people named Niles. It's a pretty normal name. How many people do know named Niles? My favorite opera musician is named Niles. My favorite dentist, Niles. Keep going. My favorite manicurist, Nile Lee, but we call him Niles. I like that you've set this up so that you don't have to come up with last names. You just have to come up with citations. Still only got two actual Niles. Niles. All right, anyway. My favorite carpenter, Niles. Oh, mine's Jesus. Oh, good for you, Curt. That seems out of character. Religion aside, you've got to admire the man's carpentry skills. Oh, fuck. Okay. He built the Vatican, right? That's what he was known for? You idiots. Curtis, can we please talk about rating binders? Please. And the fact that Jen is like, yeah, I'll go check those out. That's a crazy thing to be like, yes. I've done the full tour of the station. Oh, I forgot. I didn't see the ratings binders. Well, and this is what I'm saying before. Like, the idea that she's go with the flow about this and about spending more time with Kenny. We'll get into what she ultimately does with Kenny. But it is just wild. This is a grown woman. This is not like a 17-year-old. She can just leave. She can just go be in Seattle by herself while Raza's at work. Storyline-wise, do you think she is trying to not hear Frasier's rambled? Because that didn't really, I didn't really get that vibe. Like, it really seems like she's into the ratings binders. I think she's just aimless. I think she doesn't have an actual specific goal in life or in her day-to-day. She's just, she's genuinely go with the flow. She will listen to Frasier wax on about Freud, or she will listen to Kenny discuss ratings binders. You think someone could say anything? And she'd be like, yeah, I guess. Yeah, I'm here. I might as well listen. Do you have any evidence from this episode that anybody's brought anything to her that she pushed back on or said no thank you to? No. Not even a single bit, except for flying with Kenny. Yeah, which even that, like, I didn't get the impression she was, like, rejecting him. I think she was sincere. I mean, we'll get to it in the end of the episode. But I think she was sincere in what she said. I don't think she was trying to let him down easy. Right, I agree. But that was technically not her going with the flow. You're right. I'm going to write a lot in this episode. Brad, mark that down. Okay. March 4th. Nope. Sorry, let me redo that bit. March 5th, 2024. You're supposed to do it when this airs, Brad. Whatever this airs, Curtis would just AI me saying it. Ryan Sansone finally got something right. I'll take it. I will take it. And he shows Jen around the office, who encourages him to go on adventures of his own. Meanwhile, Frasier is ignoring his callers by waxing poetic about the genius of Freud. Ra's worries Jen will make Kenny feel bad. Cut to her making out with him. Were you guys surprised Kenny's office was so nice? You're talking about the nerve center? Of course I thought it would be nicer. You thought it'd be nicer? Yeah, it's the nerve center, Brad. Even though we knew that he's been working out of boxes for all these years, I still was surprised at how cluttered it was. I thought they would be like neatly stacked boxes. Oh, I wasn't surprised by that. Based on everything. Yeah, why'd you think they'd be... Unless you thought they'd be like piled to the ceiling, why would they be neatly stacked? It's not that I thought Kenny would have neatly stacked boxes. It's that if I were to have a room full of boxes, they would be neatly stacked. And that's all I can picture. Yeah, you're not Kenny. Believe it or not, you and Kenny are different people. You know what else? I've never... Whenever I look in a mirror, I think it's a different person. I haven't developed that psychological skill yet. Interesting. You do tend to learn that about the age of one. So probably should have brought that up for that one game. This is a pretty major Kenny episode. Like Kenny gets a lot of love in this episode. Literally. Clearly, yeah. Oh. Yeah. Ooh. Yeah, you're right. This is the only time we actually see him successful with a girl. Mark it down. On this day in history, Brad was right. Bradley Kirkston. The right man at the right time. On market. So rescinded. The back two bits were super funner. Frasier's just losing his mind because of a conversation he'd had minutes ago and like is ignoring collars. Great. Yeah. Love it. That is great. Leads to some of the stuff we see in season 11. Great. And then you smash cut that with Kenny making out with a girl who's like at least 10 years younger than him. Just. Oh. Very funny stuff. I was going to say 20. I was being nice. But yeah, it's probably 20. This is kind of the seed of where I started to think, oh, this is somebody who is very open minded. Very opinionated, but very open minded. Because. Yeah, you're right. It does. It changes her character. This should be. Oh, he's a creep. Right. Like this should be he's and she should run away screaming. But she, I'm sure, initiates and is completely consensual in making out with him. Yeah. And at no point do you think he's a creep. At no point do you think this was his idea. This is just happening to him. You know enough about Kenny to know that he doesn't have the confidence or the ambition to make a move on a younger woman. He wouldn't do it. Well, I think the next scene really seals it. But yeah, even when you're watching the scene first time around, it's like, yeah, this is this is happening to Kenny very clearly. It's and you still go, oh, Kenny, look at you making out with any girl. Forget what. I mean, one that's 20 years younger is weird. But Zoe Deschanel at this moment in her career, I'm sure was just happy to get a job. I don't think she was a big star yet. But it's interesting to think that somebody said to Zoe Deschanel, hey, that older overweight man. Yeah, you're going to have to make out with him today. I don't if I mean, I don't remember all of new girl, but I think that like a couple plot lines come up where she's she dates too old with people in there. So I think it's probably I don't know if she's like lobbying for it, but like that was an improv. She seems fine with it. I'll say that. I don't know if she's like pitching these ideas, but she seems fine with it. You have to assume she had a lot of say in the back seasons of New Girl. Jen continues to mock Seattle while planning another late night out. Roz finally breaks, admitting she is old. Jen continues to be on fire with her points. Why does anyone have a Walkman in this age? But you also like it also does feel Seattle. If you walked around Seattle right now, you might see a Walkman. It's 2002. Is that so crazy for a Walkman in 2002? Yeah. I mean, they definitely have like... Actually, you're right. The iPod didn't really explode until 2004. It was around. It existed. There were MP3 players. There was definitely iPods. You're crazy. There was definitely iPods. There might have been iPods, the very first iPods, but iPods did not become a major like pop culture. Everybody has one hit until 2004. They were dead by 2005. What are you talking about? Are you kidding? 2005 is maybe the height of their powers. But that... First of all, they didn't die until the iPhone came. Yeah. Which I think was what? 2007. 2007. So how could they have died in 2005? I mean, they like... They rose to power and then like they started doing the really small ones and then everyone was like, this is stupid. Do you have a Nano? I had a Nano. Everyone had a Nano. I started with a Nano. They were stupid. They were still stupid. Why were they stupid? They were the best. What was the one that... The Shuffle. Did you have a Shuffle? Wait, that was the Nano. No. The Shuffle. The Shuffle's the one that was tiny and had no screen. No screen. You couldn't pick songs. It literally was always on Shuffle. That's what I thought the Nano was. No. The Nano was the one that was really small but could hold like a thousand songs. And there was a screen, wasn't there, Curtis? There was a little screen. Yes. Of course there was a screen. And I had the screen, that click wheel that was so cool. And I remember getting it and thinking to myself, this is amazing. I will never have more than a thousand songs. Like this is all the songs in the world as far as I'm concerned. And within like a year, I needed a bigger iPod. If this bit teaches anything, it's that Ryan knows nothing about iPods. I'm not the biggest music guy. All right? Like I'm going to be honest. Everyone's like iPods are amazing. I was like, whatever. You guys are idiots. Should we comment on the fact that the thing we are doing right now only exists? Like it's literally called podcasts. It's named after iPods. No, it isn't. Yes, it is. No, it isn't. What do you think podcasts, what do you think that word came from? Uh, here's the thing. I want to be on Ryan's side this one. I mean, he's wrong, so I can't actually be on his side. But I want to be against you, Curtis. But you're right. No, it isn't. Look it up. You should look it up. It's actually true. That's not interesting. They do the classic, like, I can't drink tonight. And so Jen comes back with, I'll just drink beer. I missed that phrase. We do lead to the Roz reveal that she knows she's old. She acknowledges it early. Earlier than I expected her to. I don't know what I thought her age was, but I was a little confused at 38. I don't know if I thought she was younger or older. I think I thought she was older. Oh, did she stay the age? I think I missed that. She's always 38, which if she's 38, I'm just thinking like, I still, when I was a kid, she seemed like an old person because she was an adult. But even still, and I don't know if this is more nostalgia goggles, but I still think of her as like an older person. But she's basically up here to me at this point in terms of age. I'm nowhere close to 38, but I hear you. That's not what a 38 year old looks like now. Like she, I don't, I doubt she was 38 then. And if she was, she, she would look much younger in this day and age. Like, well, it's like the girl, it's like the girl from, well, yeah, you look old, but it's like the girl from Jurassic Park where you find out she's like 24 or something crazy. It's like, she looked, she looked like she was way older when we were watching it. It was like, she looked, it looked fine that she was next to the guy who was like 60 or whatever the fuck is it. I'm sure you've seen those, those memes online about the ages of the golden girls. Exactly where I was going with this. Yeah. The golden girls, which were like the height of old lady were like in their fifties and you, they, they show pictures of what they would have looked like if they were a modern 50 year old. It's just like, Oh, they're just like not that old. Yes. I think it's one of those things, but I mean, I don't think Roz is 38. I've aged her out. And this would, I guess, imply Frazier's in his like forties or something, which also isn't correct. I also feel like in like two seasons, she's going to say she's like 49. Like, I don't think she ever will give her real age. Well, we see her not give her real age this episode. So there's certainly credence to that. Gaffney is busy taking care of the house. When Niles arrives and confronts them for taking advantage, Marty manipulates him into making them dinner. The scene that turned Marty on Curtis, Curtis on Marty, Marty on Brad. So we're just done with phrasing, right? That's not a thing anymore. The scene that opened his eyes. The phrase weaponized incompetence perfectly fits the scene. It's genuinely weaponized. It is not him unconsciously being like incompetent and just benefiting. He is intentionally manipulating others by pretending like he can't do things for himself or that he would do a bad job. Brad, where were you on this one? I know slaves aren't brought up, but. What's his name? Henry? Marty. Sorry. Marty is. Weaponized incompetence. Weaponized incompetence. I don't hate him as much as I did in the previous scene. In this scene, part of me is like, oh, maybe he's a genius. Like, is Marty a genius? And the other part of me is like, these guys are stupid for even falling for him. Yeah, I think it's funny. Yeah. I think it's funny that this is the scene that opened your eyes because I thought this was a great Marty scene. I loved everything he was doing there. Top to bottom. As comedy, I think it's great. There's a lot to like about this scene. Like, if you took this show seriously as like actual family dynamics, that's where I'm like, oh, he's being kind of a shithest. Marty is an attentive father. He knows exactly how Niles will react to situations. You do have to give him some credit for knowing his kids so well. Yeah. I mean, I thought it was interesting that Frasier took the bat. That was foolish. As soon as Marty throws it down. Yeah. It's like that. Frasier should have thought about him. Like, yeah. Okay. Yeah. He will bite. But he didn't know about the sea bass, the surprise sea bass, which I don't think Marty had sea bass in his fridge. That was out of character. Here's the thing. I feel like in that moment when Frasier's taking the bat, I'm like, it does not seem like it would be that hard to get that to happen. Like, it was not a crazy thing to ask for. Oh, my son's going to make me dinner. Like, that's not a wild, impossible thing. It's wild that he thought that this was that much of a slam dunk. All right. The way that the dunk happens, though. I mean, it's a 360 jam. I know you don't know what that means, Curt. Hey, guys. Are you sure you don't want to stick around? I was just going to open a can of spaghetti. But you have sea bass in the fridge. Oh, it'll probably last another day. Oh, I think you should cook it tonight. Oh, fine. I'll nuke it with some ketchup. That's ridiculous. You can't use your turkey recipe on fish. Great line. Does he put ketchup on turkey and then throw it in the fridge? Or in the fridge? In the microwave? Because that's crazy. Absolutely. Well, he sets it in the fridge overnight to marinate. Then he microwaves this. That doesn't work, does it? I've never tried it. I might try it right now. Oh, I mean. I don't know. Yeah. It's fine. I don't have turkey or sea bass. It's fine. I thought Top to Bottoms was a very good scene for Marty. I enjoyed the humor. And I was like, you know what? He's not the worst character ever. He's got some utility. Yeah. I thought it was really great when you brought up at the start of this. You're like, oh, can you believe what he did to his kids? I was like, I mean, no. Because he's like way too competent. I don't care about the manipulation part. I mean, this is nowhere near the affronts that we see out of Marty most episodes. Him manipulating his son to make him dinner, that doesn't really bother me so much. Especially because it's like a bet with the other son. The part that bothers me is the everyday labor he's putting on Daphne to just do the exact same thing, but to get her to actually clean up after him. That's the part that's gross. Yeah. Yeah. A little undaff. Like, you don't have to do that. You gotta stand up for yourself. I wouldn't help Marty. I'll tell you that right now. Well, we know that. He'd throw a commie like you in jail long before you'd have an opportunity to help him. That is true. We get a title card. He's also seen Boston and Kansas. Kenny is ready to run away to Vietnam with Jen. When she explains she prefers to travel solo, he's a little dejected. Meanwhile, Roz is going off on a collar about acting their age. Hearing this screed, Kenny decides to finally unpack. Our first title card after having 48,000 last week. I genuinely believe you can measure the quality of an episode of Frasier based on... It's an inverse relationship to the number of title cards. Yeah. Interesting. So Big C, Big C. That's good. Big C. Yeah. This is tough because normally they set up the big scene and it ends up being more fun. This is actually one of those rare... The big scene is also a sympathetic scene or whatever. This is like a character building scene. Curt, give me better words here. What am I trying to say? Treacly scene. Is that good? What did you say? It's treacly. What the fuck word are you making up? I believe this is another word for sweet. Treacly? Is that one of those Girl Scout cookies? I think it's British. Okay. Anyway. The British Girl Scout cookie. Yeah, but this is... We're not going for the big comedy moment. There's funny stuff with Roz's explosiveness, but really this is like a reflective scene for Kenny. Which I didn't expect to feel for Kenny in any episodes. The episodes? Certainly not this one. Most of the way through. One where he even gets a win in the middle of it, for the record. This is maybe his best episode. Maybe his biggest wins. He makes out with a hot younger woman. Consensually. He gets the kind of excitement. He's clearly already entering into the divorce phase of his life. But he's got like an opportunity to go see the world, do something different. And then he loses something. He doesn't get to go on that trip and he's not going to go with her. It's not this sad, you know, ending because they kind of read it as a him growing up moment. And he's finding happiness where he is instead of being sad that he didn't get the girl. When Jen is doing the whole bit like, if I travel solo, and you can see his heart like kind of breaking. You know? Or maybe it's not even his heart, right? Like, I don't even think he thinks he's going to fall in love with her. It's penis and penis and freaking. No, I think he genuinely like wanted that companionship to go see the world and to help him. And like there is something like as an older person, you kind of like, yeah, I'm not going to go travel the world by myself. That'd be weird. Curt, you can relate to that, right? As an older person, I agree. You can kind of see the idea of Vietnam flee from his brain in like this really sad way for like a moment. And you're like, this somehow is going to be a sad, sad episode for Kenny. And then it totally is not. It totally is this coming of age story, I guess. Well, and you can kind of read it a couple ways on the Jen side. Because she says to him that she would, even though she's not going to travel with him, she would still love to like reconnect in Vietnam if they're both there. And you could read it as sincere that she's, again, just being that open person who's cool with Kenny and wants to spend time with him. But also just doesn't want to be tied to anyone. Or you could read it as she can tell he's not going to go. And she is safe to be nice and not risk actually having to ever talk to him again. Yeah. I mean, which way did you take it? You know, I would say because I have this theory about her that I need to be true. I am. I'm choosing to believe she was sincere. But I do think the other interpretation is valid. How about you, Brad? How'd you take it? I'm on Curtis's side for this one. I think. Oh, are you saying I'm right? I'm saying I think you're right. Oh, there you go, Curt. You're wrong. Idiot. Can we talk about Stu? Let's talk about Stu. Let's talk about Stu. He's played by an American actor. And one of Curtis's, I think, top five favorite actors. I don't even know that I have a top five. But sure. Let's put him in there. Okay. Bradley Whitford. The guy from the West Wing is what you're supposed to call him. The guy from the West Wing. Yes. With the world's most distinctive voice. We're not going to call him the guy from Get Out. Is he in Get Out? I've actually never seen Get Out. I saw Get Out before West Wing. Did you really? Get Out's great. He's the dad. He's the one who says, I would have voted for Obama for a third term if I could. Wow. That's fun. He was also in the American sitcom Trophy Wife. Really? Yeah. Also Billy Madison. Oh my God. Is that him? Yeah. Yes. Big name. Oh wow. This is why he's my top five actor or whatever Brad calls him. Top five American actor. American actor. I saw West Wing and Billy Madison like 20 years apart. I totally like did not place that. This is, what a good villain and good, good guy. Very surprising for you, Bradley Whitford. Bradley Whitford. He plays Jewish well, but he's not Jewish in real life. He looks Jewish. Yeah. He's a Quaker. I think he's a win for you guys either way. Yeah. I mean, Quakers, Jews, kind of the same thing. Both good at oatmeal. Yeah, that's true. So should we talk about Roz and Meltdown? I guess. I mean, it's, it's, I feel like at this point it's another long line of Frasier at work where instead of doing his actual job, it is just hijacked for attacking scholars either by him or by, in this case, Roz. And I think she is right for herself. Like she's clearly feeling a cathartic moment for herself and good for her that she's happy with being at the stage of life she's in and proud of it. I doubt there's much psychological benefit to berating a caller that way. I'm not sure that's the way to advise the caller. So I, so I have a similar but different approach to it. I agree with Curtis in the beginning. It's very like stereotypical Frasier, like someone berating the caller. But the part I liked about it was not actually what Roz did. At the end, did you notice Frasier kind of looked at her, her like a proud dad? He was like so proud of her for doing it. So it made me enjoy the scene more because he wasn't proud of her for exploding on Stu. He was proud of her for growing the fuck up. I was, I was just, you know, proud of her because Frasier was proud of her. You would have been proud of her for exploding on someone on air. That is absolutely not why he was proud of her. Just for the record. I might have exploded on someone today. So I might be in that mind space. Oh no. You just want, you just want someone to look at you with the positive positivity after you do something terrible at work. That is not what happened here. You should just get a framed photo of Frasier making that face to Roz and just put it, put it facing you on your desk. It works so that when you do something horrible, you can console yourself by pretending Frasier's proud. Where'd you guys land with Roz's meltdown? This is another one. I just, I'm not sure we've got her voice this season. A lot of this didn't feel right. Maybe, maybe this one. In what way? What about it feels wrong? I'm not actually buying that she's even given in to her cousin, even though her cousin adores her. I'm definitely not, not buying that she loses her shit on air. That doesn't sound like the Roz I know either. Interesting. Ooh. Okay. Muted response. Interesting. Yeah. I can't comment for what I do know. I also am struggling to remember what the show was like before these last two seasons. So I'm not really sure what direction it goes. I guess we can take that she grew up from there because like, like she seems very comfortable with herself moving forward. So maybe this was the moment, but I doubt it. That is actually very interesting because this whole plot is about her kind of growing up out of her kind of 20s partying phase and accepting that she is grown. So if you see her as kind of a grown woman who's confident and capable, maybe it is that this is a turning point. Maybe everything after this will feel like she's a little bit immature. Sure. This doesn't speak to inconsistent writing, but Kenny's lesson that's learned here doesn't take, which could be fine. Like he clearly is a mess, but like he has the bigger moment, the bigger revelation. And boy, that boy, does that not carry forward. I think it's realistic that a person would have a moment like this where they're like, okay, things are all right. But he's still in the process of getting divorced. Like when we see him kind of fall apart later after his divorce, I don't think that is inconsistent with this. It's just he's, he's on a roller coaster right now. Yeah. Stu, he gets more lines than the usual color. His clap bag where you're like, oh, didn't I see you at the zoo? Yeah, that was funny. Excuse me. The zoo. I'm sorry. It's just zoo. They do a lot of the setup stuff that I love. They land the things a lot weirder in this episode than they usually do. It's not building to one moment. It spreads out a bunch of moments like right at the end. Really well. Kudos to him. We do see Kenny grow up and unpack his boxes. I would have loved to see him get fired. That would have been great. Razor plays this out to Marty dropping a dirty plate on the floor and calling Daddy, who licks it clean and moves it to the kitchen. We all saw Curt, so suck it. I can see dogs. The writing sucks this season. I can see dogs. For a second, I was like, you know what? Maybe Marty's an okay character. Maybe I don't even fully hate him. And then the stupid dog scene is like, you put your dog to work. Fuck off, Marty. Everyone hates you. I love the same episode I turned on Marty. You are turning around on him until this pointless scene. And essentially defending the dog. Until all of Marty's win.

Tell me all about it in exquisite detail. segment type: episode evaluation competition adjudication competition established: False scoring method: out of seven a Brad score 26 out of 44 8.7. reviewed full source context: Well, Brad, what did you think of this out of seven? This is a middle of the pack one. I liked it. I didn't love it. There wasn't anything really bad about it. It was just kind of a good episode. It showcased a lot of random characters that you don't get to see that much. It had some shocking guest stars. So I'm going to give it a Brad score. And I did not talk to the Council of Brads on this one. I just didn't get a chance. Busy day. Oh, a rogue score? I'm sorry. On Bradley Whitford's episode, you didn't talk to any of the Bradleys. I know. I was waiting for that. It was sad. I couldn't talk to a single one today. So I'm going to give it a score. Going rogue. B. B. Just a B. A double B. Just a B. Okay. Curtis, how would you like to rank this episode? I rank it 26 out of 44. Okay. So this is honestly very similar to what you said, Brad. I hate when we're in agreement. I prefer when we disagree. But I'm pretty much on the same page with you. Middle of the pack. It's not as good as Farewell Nervosa. I love that. Barista Steve. But I would rather watch it than the door jam episode with the day spa. Okay. Oh, yeah. Okay. It's not one of the biggest laugh episodes. It's got some sentimental moments, but it's not like the hardest hitting sentimental moments. You know, it's fine. That's right. It's just middle of the pack. It's harder and harder as we talk about more and more episodes to differentiate the middle of the pack. So it's just a standard episode. It's not bad. Nothing wrong with it. But it's not great either. That's fair. I liked this episode coming into talking about it tonight. And I got to tell you, the more we talked about it, the more I liked it. If you'd have told me that we built an episode, like a Roz, Kenny, Marty episode, I'd be like, this is going to be the worst fucking thing we've ever watched. Loved it. I mean, I thought it was really good. And I thought, you know, obviously, Zoe does Chanel. Great to see her. She did great. She came in and she hit. She hit threes all night. Drained all of them. I thought it was great. I don't know what you guys are scoring this on. It isn't the biggest laugh, but they do mix the laugh and the sentimental stuff really well. I thought it was great. 8.7. Okay. Whoa. Okay. See, I like that we disagree. This is great. It's weird that you guys are so wrong. On an episode where you guys hate Marty now, like you started out so correct and you just got like less right throughout the night. Very confusing.

Today, we will revisit our own youths and reconsider our current situations. It's midlife. Try this. What we're going to do, we're going to start with a question. The question is, what is something you did in your 20s that you wish you could still do today? But twist, you can only answer using one word. Rad? Out. Out? Yeah. Out. Yeah. You wish you could still come out. I'm guessing you mean like go out. Like you don't go out partying like you did in your 20s. Is that what you're saying? I meant more even out of my apartment, but sure. Yeah. Let's go with party. Make me sound even cooler. But yes, 100%. Cut. And you miss that? Like you want to do that? I think it's more I miss having a social life. That's really depressing. Wait till some of my other answers. Okay. Well. Hey, Curt. This is big. This is the latest in an episode. Brad's bummed us out totally. So this is exciting. But, but, but you agree with me on this one. I didn't disagree. Did I? No. Okay. Ryan, what about you? Bob. You wish you could get that Bob haircut that you had when you were in college. Yeah, I remember that. Yes. The Ringo Starr of 2007. I miss being able to get a 2 a.m. gyro from Gyro Bob. Gyro Bob. Do you, do you know the things that would happen to me if I ate a gyro anytime after like, like 9 p.m.? It would be horrifying. I don't throw up from alcohol almost ever. I throw up sometimes from like eating food too late. Yeah. That's, that's world. But I was wondering at some point, I knew you were going to bring up food. I had, I should have bet on it being the first round, but sure. I knew you were going to bring up food at some point. I was about to contradict you and say like, oh, I'm not experiencing that. Like I can still eat late night food. No problem. And I remember, we don't have late night food. I'm not experiencing that because I'm not eating late. Curtis, you couldn't handle late night food when we were 20. Let alone 30 something. I don't remember you ever getting gyro Bob. I got two hot dogs at gyro Bob. That sounds about right. Curtis, what's your one word for this segment? Hostile. Hostile? Yeah. He wishes he could still be hostile to every woman he met. Yeah. Is that what it is? No. Or, or could it be hostile takeovers? You miss being able to take over a situation hostily? You weren't really good at that then. No, it turns out I was not a business genius at 21. H-O-S-T-E-L. I miss being able to travel. Brad doesn't know how to travel. You miss being able to travel. Okay. You don't miss staying in hostiles? I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm so sorry. I can still travel. Hostiles are a different level of travel. Best thing. Like, hostile traveling or couch surfing. Like, traveling and being comfortable on a shitty bed in a shared room. When I was in my 20s, I loved traveling that way because it was dirt cheap and it was a lot of fun. And you met people that way. And I didn't care that it was so uncomfortable. I could never travel like that today. Curt could need a gyro late night when we were young. I couldn't. I was never comfortable with the hostel. I was always out. We did it once. I was like, this is insane. I'm never doing this again. You did hate that one. Indiana hostel. Maybe it was Indiana, but I've never given hostiles another look. Well, next up, what is something you did in your 20s that embarrasses you today? I'll go first this time. Asshole is my word. Playing the game? Whoa. Oh, that's a great answer. I forgot that should have been the answer. I would like to change. Can I change what my meeting was? I mean, you haven't told us what your meeting is for sure. So for the listening audience, Asshole is a card game that we played. Way too much. Constantly in our dorms. We would play it for hours on end when we should be out socializing with people. It started as a jerking game and turned into a competitive game for no reason. And the occasion when somebody from outside of our little insular group would join us and be like, oh, Asshole is a fun game. I'll play with you. We didn't. We were so good at it because we played it nonstop that we were so fast and they couldn't keep up and we made no attempt to include them or give them a handicap. We just dominated them. And for some reason, we didn't get a lot of return visitors. In fairness to us, we only lost out two potential friends that I would have capped in hindsight. Sure. We didn't lose a lot of good prospects. We fucking loved Asshole. Do that. Yes, that's true. I'll take it. Not as embarrassed about Asshole as I should be. I think we were more embarrassed about it at the age of 20 than we are. I think we were. The real answer is that I was very proud of being a not nice person. Yes, you were very proud. I reveled in the idea of being kind of a jerk and that is embarrassing to me now. Oh, man. What growth. Good for you, Curt. Well, I called into a show and the producer yelled at me. Turn me around. Brad, what's yours? Oh, yeah. You're a nation. Oh, why? This is so broad for you. Yeah, but for me, it was peeing outside in public to the fact that I peed outside of a bar and didn't realize the cop saw me and I thought the cop was going to arrest me and instead he made me clean the urine off the wall. Ew. That's a weird cop. Yeah. That cop's got a fetish, dude. Like, that's fucked up. Totally. The whole thing was insane. Just harassed me. Like, what the fuck? I gotta tell you, I'm not that in bed. I would go pee outside right now. I'm not. That's fine. I mean, don't do it around like children or something, but it's fine. I thought when you were going to give a story about you peeing, I thought you were going talking about the time that we were walking somewhere and it was late at night and you picked a spot to pee and it wasn't, it wasn't like behind a tree or behind a bush. You picked like under a street lamp. It was the only place lit up in the whole walkway and you went out of your way to go under it then pee. We're like, what are you doing? Let me, let me make it clear. When I say peeing in public, I don't mean like what Ryan's saying, like peeing in a bush, I mean like literally peeing in public. I would literally go. Yeah, like be classy and pee on a wall where no one's kind of looking. Yeah. Try that. I would just literally pee where I wanted. Okay, Ryan. Frisbee. Because of our weird games of Frisbee? You weren't good at it? Yeah. You wish you were better. No, I didn't. Did you have a dog as Frisbee? No, because you used to use it as a plate. You didn't, you didn't, you didn't have real plates that you just ate off of a Frisbee. Nothing embarrassing about that, Curt. Keep trying. I gotta, I'll give you a hint. This involves you two idiots. Because of the game we played? The Frisbee game? I'm not embarrassed about that at all. That's one of my proudest moments. That's a tough look for you. This is how we, we used to walk to a party by playing a Frisbee game to get there. If you're not embarrassed about that, I don't know what's wrong with it. I don't, look in, look in the mirror. Go call into a radio station, Curt. I would be happy to look in the mirror, but the other person staring at me through it wouldn't tell, they won't tell me anything. It would be me going, hi. We read Brad's inability to catch a Frisbee with both feet on the ground. Guess what? We always got to the party safely. So I guess the Frisbee was doing something right. That's true. No one, no one came anywhere near us. What is wrong with these maniacs? I genuinely have no embarrassment about that one. So I think that was fun. It was a fun way. It was better than just, what were we doing? Just walk? We were playing games. We could have got, we could have got to the party 30 minutes sooner. Oh, we could have got there a lot sooner, but I don't think, um, punctuality is the point of a college party. I know how Curtis is walking down the aisle. We weren't planning to have like a wedding party, but now I have to have you both as a groomsman just so that I can make you Frisbee down the aisle with me. For me and Brad to get to your party, we have to play Frisbee to each other from across the state. I did talk about going to Columbus first so I can go to Columbus and then me and Ryan go to a Frisbee adventure for your wedding. We'll Frisbee our way to you, Curt. And then finally, what is something you do now that 20 year old you would have been embarrassed by? Management. Oh? Having real responsibility. You would be embarrassed to be in management? I mean, I said, that's not what I said. He said the word. Now he said the word. We'd have to figure out what it is. You're just making an assumption. Oh, I was making an assumption. Your guess is about work. My guess is treating management at restaurants rudely now because you didn't do it when you were younger. I don't know. Oh my God. I would love to treat management rudely. I could never. I would love to be able to do that. I don't know how you gain that skill. I would love it. You've got a critter. It got nicer as he years went on. It turns out you got a rudder. I would really fucking love to be able to go to a counter and not tip just because the tip thick is there. Tell me about it. Sometimes my fiance will be like, why are we tipping for this? And it's like, I don't know. But it asked me. Now I have to. I don't know. I'm not going to say no. That'd be crazy. That'd be a psychopathic behavior. I'm not going to do that. But I shouldn't tip. Anyway, no, that's not it. What is it? I have gotten in the last two years, I've gotten super into cable management. Oh, my God. OK. I not that long ago bought a new TV and sound system. And I spent an entire day getting my cables perfectly set up and put away so that you cannot see any cables from my my entertainment system. Yeah. Six years ago, me would have made so much fun of you. I'm like, that's insane. You're this is the most courteous thing ever. Now I'm like, yeah, man, I get it. Totally get it. I am holding in my hand the label maker I used to label the cords that are plugged into the outlet. Thankfully, I'm not at your level yet. I don't know what a label maker is, but I I'm not proud. I'll tell you that. I'm super into it. Fucking love doing it. Not proud of it. Well, so that's interesting. See, to me, like I can see why that would be something that 20 year old me would be embarrassed by. But it sounds like even 35 year old you is still embarrassed by it. It's a tough it's I'm embarrassed by how we do it. I am. I took pictures and sent it to my brother. That's I was very proud. And then I went for a jaunty commute of Frisbee. Curtis, I think you're next. What's your word? My word is gray. Oh, you're you'd be. That's harder to picture, actually, because you loved gray back then. You started watching Grey's Anatomy. Oh, yeah, that's it. That's a great answer. That's not what it was. I've never seen that. Well, I've seen the first episode of that show. I've seen the first 10 minutes of that show. But no, I am not Grey's Anatomy. I don't have a strong guess. Did you pick did you try playing Pokemon again? And you instead of you changed Gary's name to gray. I was mad that it was all like red and gold and colors. And I was like, why don't they have a gray? I want to play Pokemon gray. You popped it into your Game Boy standard. Where the first Pokemon you're given is just like a radish or whatever. Okay, it's a Charmander, but whatever. What? Oh, you're saying your ideal Pokemon. I got it. Sorry, sorry, sorry. I was saying it's Pokemon Trace, so you'd get like a really shitty Pokemon. Yeah, that's good. I'm still a little mad that you can't have Charmander in that version. The real answer is my hair. Oh, you'd be embarrassed that you have hair still? I would be embarrassed how much gray my hair is. I don't. 20-year-old Curtis wouldn't have. That's not correct. Well, I will say 22-year-old Curtis got the first gray, and he was deeply embarrassed. Oh, wow. Oh, yeah. I spent like two years plucking them out when I noticed them until it became unmanageable, until there was too many. Does this match up with the Curtis you know, Brad? This doesn't sound right. I mean, I would say that, but I just saw him on a Just for Men hair commercial. So, I think it... That means he's not embarrassed, is it, Brad? Yeah, I guess. I'm going to tell the world. Yeah. I mean, I will say, I was never embarrassed to the point where I would rather like dye it. I've never dyed my hair. I've never tried to fake that I didn't have gray hair. I've more or less accepted it, but I was... I started going gray at a very young age and was very embarrassed. In fact, today you sent a picture of yourself, Ryan, with your full beard, and I was like, damn, why is all of his hair so black? It was like, what is happening to me? You can relax. I get gray in my beard. You can relax. It was a lighting thing or something. No. No, maybe I don't worry so much about him since I was 22. Yeah. And Brad, bring us home. Yeah, this was hard for me not to pick one that was going to be a Debbie Downer. So, I'm going to go with... You should just never pick one that would be a Debbie Downer. I'm going to go with chips. What's the category, Curt? I forgot. Oh, this is the one that he would be embarrassed by. I think it's your gambling. Shit. Oh, that's what it should be. That can't be it. There's no way he thought of that. I'm guessing you never figured out how to eat chips properly. No. Curtis is half right. It is gambling, but it's actually way more embarrassing. I have an absurd amount of chips that I just haven't had a chance to cash into the casino. I know, like, well over $200 sitting on my table in my room. So, I think 20-year-old Brad, who did not have a lot of money, would be incredibly embarrassed that he just has chips laying around. You don't just... It's not just a thing where, like, as you leave, you get your money out of it? Like, you just take them with you? Why don't you just cash it out when you left? Why'd you bring me the chips? Yeah, because I randomly will, like, do every chip except a random $5 chip every once in a while. And I put it in a different pocket and just didn't see it. Oh, Curtis, this is a savings plan. Brad's embarrassed that he saved. His life savings is just, like, in plastic chips from a casino. Misappropriated funds, but, like, in a very strange way. Did not expect you guys to turn this still positive for me. So, I appreciate that. Thank you, and good night. And that was the old and the restless.

round sequence: 1 prompt: what is something you did in your 20s that you wish you could still do today? reviewed full source context: What we're going to do, we're going to start with a question. Maybe it was Indiana, but I've never given hostiles another look.

round sequence: 2 prompt: what is something you did in your 20s that embarrasses you today? reviewed full source context: Well, next up, what is something you did in your 20s that embarrasses you today?

Management.

Proxy Prexy. Oh, yeah. Classic example of real word, fake word. I can only assume Frazier will attempt to use Marty as a proxy, but will have consumed way too much peanut butter. Peanut butter? He's going to mispronounce the word proxy. I don't know, man. I don't know what the fuck a proxy is. I don't know what proxy is supposed to be, either. I have no fucking idea what it's supposed to be. Bonus prediction. Bonus prediction. Oh, yeah. Curt, I got a bonus prediction for you. Oh, yeah? What's that? Oh, you know, I'm trying to help Brad out this year, so. And he clearly is eager for us. Clearly could use it. In the prediction that he's going to cash in his chips. No, no, are you kidding? His life savings? Absolutely not. No, this week, Bradley Kirkson will get outscored by a lively rhododendron in an IQ test. I thought you were going to say, like, outscored in the basketball court, like, to put out my ethnicism. No, no, this was originally all written for Curtis, you'll recall. Okay, fair enough. I would never joke that he would be on our basketball court. Yep, got it.

Marty check: reconsidering a favorite character

Brad asks whether they were wrong to dismiss Ryan’s criticism of Marty. The group revisits nostalgic affection, manipulative behavior and earlier scenes. Brad describes his opinion falling from eight or nine to four or five; the recording confirms both his opening question and rating voice. Those numbers describe Marty, not the episode. The conversation increasingly supports Ryan’s criticism, while another participant remains only partly persuaded. No points or competitive winner are awarded.

The source records recap interpretation, personal discussion, factual lookup, noncompetitive opinion, or production/sign-off context. This excerpt supplies no independently established recurring comic-bit occurrence.

                            B, twenty-sixth of forty-four, and an unnamed 8.7

Curtis asks Brad for his rating; Brad gives B after an out-of-seven setup. His double-B joke does not establish B+ or another grade. Brad hands the rating to Curtis, who ranks it twenty-sixth out of forty-four. The recording confirms Ryan as the 8.7 rater; his /10 display follows the established site convention. Ryan says discussion improved his opinion.

This is an episode assessment or ratings-history summary. Ratings and any accompanying Council/scale banter remain intact; the composite summary is not a separate recurring interruption or game.

The Old and the Restless: clues about getting older

Curtis introduces a reflection on their twenties and present lives. Each host gives a one-word clue, the others guess, and the host explains what they mean. Three prompts produce three answers each, with no scoring or winner. The closing calls the activity The Old and the Restless. The summaries below retain the clues, mistaken guesses and actual explanations together.

Native source ownership and the preserved excerpt locate this record within a question/activity, its contributions, wrap-up, or retrospective context. It supplies no independent recurring comic-bit occurrence.

Ryan’s Bob clue prompts Curtis’s college-bob-haircut guess. Ryan actually misses a two-in-the-morning gyro from Gyro Bob and being able to tolerate late food. This is his recollection.

Curtis says Asshole, which Brad interprets as the card game. Card-game memories and a joke about changing the intended answer precede Curtis’s explanation: he was proud of being a jerk and now finds that embarrassing. No card game is played.

Ryan explains that he is embarrassed by walking to parties while tossing a Frisbee; his friends do not share the embarrassment. Curtis guesses gambling and Ryan guesses not knowing how to eat chips. Brad says Curtis is half right: he has well over $200 in casino chips left on his table because he has not cashed them in, including chips forgotten in another pocket. The group turns this into a savings-plan joke.

Notes conversion and an old phone-audio problem

After the sign-off, Ryan describes photographing computer notes and getting a poor automatic conversion. The group jokes about accidentally making audio notes and recalls a phone/headphone setup that prevented others from hearing playback. This is a recalled technical problem, not a current review-system fault.

The source records recap interpretation, personal discussion, factual lookup, noncompetitive opinion, or production/sign-off context. This excerpt supplies no independently established recurring comic-bit occurrence.

                            Comic bits and episode moments.

Dissatisfied with his introductions, Brad asks to try one himself. He offers curator of smooth jazz, sexy librarian and future actor, then revises that to future megastar. The others tease his grasp of the show’s introduction and its recording date. More cousin-themed introductions follow. The suggestion to rank attractive cousins does not become an enacted ranking exercise.

Ryan asks for a live drop, and Brad performs Logistics drop, Logistics drop, We got ourselves a logistics drop. The surrounding discussion and later callbacks stay in the source context; broad archival mentions are not treated as additional performances or proof that a saved drop was edited.

Brad invokes this day in psychological history, asks for a best guess and supplies the comic answer about the first person attracted to an orange. Ryan asks how it was handled; Brad replies I don’t think they did. The recording confirms each voice. These are comic guesses, not a verified historical event.

Ryan asks Brad to explain the dates on which Freud was proven or disproven. Brad deflects with a favorite-river-in-Egypt denial joke. The requested detailed explanation is not delivered and no historical claim is verified.

Brad claims to know many people named Niles and enumerates an opera musician, a dentist, a manicurist named Nile Lee but called Niles, and later a carpenter. Curtis gives the interim evaluation that there are only two actual Niles; that is not a final count after the later addition. The occupations remain part of the hosts’ riff, not independently established acquaintances.

Ryan asks Brad to mark down Ryan finally getting something right. Brad first gives March 4, then restarts with March 5, 2024; another remark says he should use the air date. Curtis later announces that Brad was right, only for that acknowledgment to be rescinded. These are performed acknowledgments with corrections, not actual dated fact-check receipts or game scores.

Ryan predicts a proxy and too much peanut butter

Curtis supplies the Proxy Prexy prompt. Ryan predicts that Frasier uses Marty as a proxy but has eaten too much peanut butter and mispronounces the word; he admits not knowing the title’s meaning. Ryan also gives the bonus joke that Brad loses an IQ test to a lively rhododendron. No later correctness is established.
