Welcome to Reverse Psychology, the Fraser Rewatch podcast where we go backwards through every episode of the show. Tonight, we're covering Season 10, Episode 18, Road to Perdition, which originally aired on March 18th, 2003. Is this when the crane crime family finally goes down? We'll find out. I'm your host, Curt Aschak. Joining me as always, it's our resident upside downer. It's Ryan Tinsone. Curt, I still don't know what Perdition is, but I am excited to be here anyway. Also with us today is our fish egg. It's Bradley Kirkston. What up, what up, what up? Fish egg was my nickname in high school, so that's perfect. Yeah, big increase for you. Yeah. Curt always really set me up for like a good podcast. Yeah. You know, I just love it. I love the enthusiasm. I love the positivity. And I love Curtis's terrible way of naming me. So it's been great. Well, if you're enthusiastic for that, I think you're going to be over the moon for today. We have a special guest, a returning guest, and one who hopefully this time watched the episode. It's Vitaly Steer. Yo, yo.

It's Vitaly Steer. Yo, yo. I don't know when this happened. Why have we brought back Vitaly, who many listeners have said, I forgot he was there? It started with a private text. Well, hold on. First of all, I just want to say, he has already said more in this episode than he did in the last one. So already this has proven successful. I don't think we're going to get much better analysis from him than his wife shares a name with the main actor. That was a big revelation. And I don't think we're going to get much deeper than that. It was a legit answer. It was legit. Brad, do you want to go ahead with your explanation? Sure. I'll do the long version. I was leaving work one day. I was sitting in my car and I got a text message from Curtis. We don't have time for the long versions. I was like, oh, what does this text say? And it said, hey, this episode is all about, you know, Vitaly's life. Should we ask Vitaly to be on the show? And I said, absolutely. All right. What I said was, I'm pretty sure. Why did our special reoccurring guest get the nod for this question? And I'm there. So here's what happens. So I remembered that this episode had Russians in it and Russian speaking in this. And I thought, well, you know, exactly one person who speaks Russian. And I said privately to Brad because I didn't want to tip off to Ryan. I didn't want to give you the spoilers that there'd be Russian in it. I somehow thought that was... How far ahead was this? Early May. I'm just kidding. This is like two or three episodes ahead. You wanted to book Vitaly ahead of time because you were worried that his busy social life, he might be going to the opera. It gets better. I checked in with Brad to find out if Vitaly would be a worthwhile... It would be more of asking him. And he said, yes. So I asked Vitaly if he'd be willing to watch the episode. He reluctantly said yes. And then he said, when do I need to watch it? And I said, I don't know yet because it's too far ahead for me to say for sure. You just asked him if he would watch an episode in the future. Yes. And then I completely forgot about all of this and didn't text him until late last night. I want to hear a bit said. I only agreed to it if I got all four railroads and both utilities. Oh, there you go. Which I was promised in exchange. So I am expecting that after this episode. I think you actually won the trade. I think this is a... We'll talk about the episode, but you could have done much worse. This wasn't Freudian sleep that Curtis conned you into. So that's good. I mean, he didn't watch that one, but sure. Yeah. I don't know if I get to tell them about...

Reviewed full source context: So before we get into the episode, did this raise your radar for caviar? Have you guys had caviar in the past? Worse. Oh, you're Russian. Sorry. That question was not to you, believe it or not. I don't think I have. Brad? Yes, I have at a Russian wedding. Now, did you like it? I do. I do like caviar. I'm sorry. What is it pronounced? How is it pronounced? I don't even. We don't have time for that. If we're going to focus on every mispronunciation for Brad today, we're not getting through this. Nerviso. Were you addicted to it or were you like, that was fine or was it good? Like, where do you have it on the food scale? Were you at the Doubletree when you had it? No. Russian wedding seems like a good, your best, really Brad's best shot of having it. Yeah. So, yeah. So, it was very, very good. I just remember feeling very smooth. Like I was eating a pillow. I regret asking you. Do you like it? Yeah. And is it because you enjoyed the taste of pillows or whatever the fuck Brad said? It does not taste like pillows. It's a little salty. It's really good. Is it like, do you crave it ever or is it just above average? No. Where do you put it on the food scale? It's fine. It's something that we eat. I wouldn't say, like we don't treat it like cocaine like they do in an episode. Moral alert alert. You're a bluefin tuna caviar or whatever the hell it was? Beluga. Beluga. Beluga. Beluga. Whatever, guys. I have had that one, but typically we get the salmon ones, which is the, like the, they're like orange instead of the black ones. They're a lot cheaper. They taste pretty good. When you say you have caviar, but not like it's cocaine, do you mean like you have a caviar Tuesdays, like a taco Tuesday situation? Like how often are you eating this? No, typically like for like get togethers, like at my parents' house or like at other. Like twice a month. I was going to say, your whole life is getting together. It's literally every weekend. Your whole life is different random Russian parties. No, it's birthdays. I don't, you have like six people in your family, but you have to go to a birthday every weekend. It's insane. Yes. It's my aunt's cousin's brother's sister's 14th and a half birthday. That's a big one now. In Russian culture, that's a big one. It's a bit. He just abbreviated it. So he's just always like, yeah, it's my cousin's birthday. I got to go to. They're all cousins. They're all cousins. He started going to Kitsuneros at one point. We were like, wow, he's got so many parties. And I was bringing caviar with me and it was great. I haven't properly had caviar. I've only had, I've had roe from like on sushi, but I've never had, I don't know, caviar out of the tin or whatever. I'm so excited to try it after watching this episode. We don't, we don't typically eat it straight. Like you don't just sit there and like eat it straight. No, you only eat it straight if you're about to get busted by FBI agents. Yeah. You wouldn't eat it straight. You put it on eggs. You put it on toast. We usually do, we usually do bread and butter and then you put it on top of the butter. That's, that's the only way I have to. Bread and butter. Yeah. That seems like a weak usage of it. I thought it was supposed to be on like a cracker. We usually do bread and butter. Yeah. I've only seen it with bread and butter. Brad, you've seen it one time. Shut up. Wait, actually, I'm pretty sure, Battalion, did you have some at your wedding? No, I don't think, no, we don't have any in my wedding. Oh, okay. I would have remembered, we would, we would be talking about that moment exclusively. We wouldn't be talking about, I wonder if caviar is good right now. Well, I wonder if this episode is good. Should we talk about it? Let's do it. See, Banks McGee. I don't want to talk about more caviar. You guys talk about the show. I'm going to talk about caviar. You guys watch Amazing Race? I've seen the first nine seasons. I think probably in the first nine seasons, there was an episode where they, they went to, uh, I do believe, yeah, I believe it came out. To Moscow, yeah. And they had to sit there and eat a bowl of caviar. And people, like, couldn't do it. People acted like it was horrible, yeah. Yeah, I was like, I could have finished, like, everyone's bowl and, like, still, like, kept going. I'm a big antichoke guy. I'm pretty confident I would knock that down in a heartbeat. You are oily like an antichoke. Yes. How do you think I keep my oilish figure? Questioner: Ryan

Tell us, what did you think? I lost 20 minutes of my life. It was awful. 22. Wait, what were the two minutes you liked? Oh, it was 22 minutes. Oh, I like the time when they were playing Carids and speaking Russian. That sounds right. Sounds right. That's great. You had to give this some kind of a rating. How would you rate this? He rated it 20 minutes of waste. What do you mean? Yeah, I would say I give it a two. One because there was caviar involved and two because the rest was complete perlone. Quick question, are you going to tell us out of how many? I think he's just adding all the points he was giving. So, just two points. There's only two points. How many points do I need to get a yacht party? Good question. 10. Whoa. Yeah, that's, so you really liked it. No, 10 is 100,000. So, so if, if, if 10 points gets me a yacht party, if I've got two points, can I get one of those, uh, uh, kind of silicone things that you throw at the wall and it sticks to it? What silicone thing are you talking about? It's talking about like a Dave and Busters. Come on, man, keep up. Uh, sure. Brad, what about you? How did you like this episode? Yeah, I actually, you know, even though I criticized parts of it, I generally liked it. And as we know, I have a master scoring system, so I'm going to go with the B plus. Yeah, okay. It's a great master scoring system. Curtis, uh, how did you rank it, bud? I honestly think this is a top tier episode from what we've seen. It's number seven. No, man, number four out of 31. Not as good as Niles getting Naked and Nervosa, but, um, I thought it was better than the Boo episode with the Clown. I thought it was really funny. Ryan, what, you, you, you tell us, what do you think? Uh, you know, I liked, as I said, I liked both the A and B plot, so I guess I liked this episode, but the more we talked about it, I think I probably scored some of it a little too high. I, you guys talked me down a little bit. It's, it's nowhere near top. It's definitely not top five. Uh, I don't know what you're spoke with, Curt, but it, it's probably a nice, like, seven, seven. I'm hopped up on Javier. You're, you're out of whack. But, again, there's definitely good stuff. You got, you got a good bit of Roz and Daphne, which is rare, so that's exciting to see. Uh, probably a little too much Marty. And, again, both storylines, good. I, I don't know if we quite, I don't, I liked both payoffs, but I don't think they were as high as some of the, the huge payoffs we've seen. Like, somehow going for two smaller payoffs didn't quite land as good as the huge payoffs you could get. Fair. That makes sense. Fair. Yeah, this, this was probably the most balanced we've seen, the two plots, and. Yes. I can, I can see that. The whole episode balanced. This is a top five episode. Were the other, were the other episodes just like completely shit? Kind of slog, bit. Kind of slog. Okay. Yeah. We went through a time of some real bad episodes.

I will say, since you put this in top four, I'm highly doubting that any will, but go for it. Okay. About miss right now. Is that like a miss universe type of thing? Could be, there could be some very attractive women in it. Yeah. I could be intriguing if that's what it's about. They might have really, uh, sexy, interesting voices. Just voices. Well, the voice is really going to carry the episode. Okay. Okay. He is implied. Like they're both driving and they are at a bar with drinks. Like he, I mean, I think he just got there. She's hammered and doesn't give a fuck. It's what I, that's how I get there. Yo, yo. How about, how about coots and ladders? It's like coots. Coots. Like an old coot, like an old lady. Oh, hell no. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. What if I told you this old lady was in the Olympics and she dissed Hitler? Does she have a cool, like, is that her only story? Like what did she, she went to the, the Olympics in Germany in like 1930, whatever. And she, she was, uh, she was in a position to shake Hitler's hand and she didn't. I mean, that's kind of cool. But like, what did she do in the Olympics? Like what sport did she do? I don't know. Was she a swimmer? What was she? No track and field. I thought. Track and field. She's a runner. That's kind of boring. I'm 50 50 on dissing Hitler because it was track and field. What if there would have been Jewish men on this show? Sympathizing with Hitler. In that episode, Brad also was very pro Hitler. We've all heard all of the ways you could invoke Hitler. That's probably the only time I've ever heard, uh, while his hands were sweaty, I wasn't going to shake them for that. I, I laughed hysterically at that comment. I was like, I think I'd probably say the same thing. I was a big fan. For what? You say you're a big fan of Hitler? No, I'm a big fan of that reaction. The reaction where she doesn't care about the murdering of 6 million Jews. She just doesn't want to touch a, a moist hand. Oh, for sure. No, I didn't say I was pro Hitler. I'm just like, am I going to put my 20 minutes? So for that one scene, right? I have to consider the rest of the episode, the rest of the, yeah, I didn't say it was one scene. It was the whole entire 20 minutes was her not shaking Hitler's hand. That was the whole episode was her not doing something. No, she was probably running around on the track and doing, doing shit. I don't want to watch that. I don't care for that. All right. What about CBGBs? Are they doing CBD? Could be. I could be fun. I don't know. Yeah. All right. Brad, have you tried the mail jam technique? What a success. Well, you know, that is straight up mail fraud. No, it's not mail fraud. When you put your own mail in someone else's mail bin, I don't know if it's fraud, but it is illegal. It's a federal offense. Yes. Oh, well, I got to go correct some crimes. Then I'll be right back. Yo, yo. Actually, the episode right before that, the dad gets high. Okay. That's the old guy that was on the phone going to the bank. Yeah. There was an episode called high holidays where he literally gets high at Christmas. Was he at all funny? He was very funny. That was the best episode of the show. All right. That'll make him through watching that one. Okay. I bought a bag of barbecue potato chips and I bought a snack pack. So do it. Curtis, how much ganja did you smoke? I have had an aggressive sin can tell. Hmm. Okay. All right. Okay. That's what you're doing. Marty, you slice up a bitch. This is really good. Is it? We're winning you. You're much more amenable to this now that you know you don't actually have to. Yeah, it's great. I'll add this one. No sex, please. We're skittish. Absolutely not. Why not? You don't want a thing that explicitly tells you sex isn't on the table. Yeah. I mean, that one's fair. I can't blame you for that. But wait a minute. If it said sex was happening, like you've seen these characters, you know what they look like. Would you be like really excited for an episode about sex with them? I wouldn't, but I don't want to just see them like send their like talking. Like that's boring. You've already seen 20 minutes of that. You don't need another 20. every 20 minutes of running around trying to find fucking Casio. I don't even know like 20 minutes of them not doing anything. Hey, all you cool cats and kittens. It's Bradley. Did you call yourself Bradway? Bradley. Can you tell us how you relate to the, all the young kids? Yes. Through the Jewish prayers and Holocaust and lots of fun things. Why'd you say Holocaust and all of the fun things? Yo, yo. Okay. I've got one more for you. Now this one's interesting because this is includes a, a human person in the world that you have heard of. I don't know how familiar you are with him, but what about an episode called the devil and Dr. Phil? Oh, I know Dr. Phil. I don't care for him at all. So that's an absolutely no. Okay. But the devil's in there. What if he's getting punished by the devil? You don't know that could be happening. That could be in play. Eh, no, I'm good. You don't need a pack of wild horses to learn how to make a sandwich. Curtis and sandwich is a sandwich. Yeah. Let's go. Curtis. Let's go. No, Google it. But Dr. Phil was on a whole episode. Yeah. I don't care for him. He played a rival to Frazier. Oh, this is what? 20 years ago. Yeah. 20 years ago. Yeah. Yeah. Are you surprised Dr. Phil was alive that long? What are you? What is that reaction? I didn't know he was, he was did like TV shows and stuff back then. Oh yeah. I think this is it. Was he on other TV shows? I think he just did a cameo on Frazier. Was he, was he big 20 years ago? I guess I don't know. Oh yeah. He was big 20 years ago. Yeah. I think 2003, 2004 would have been pretty close to his peak. Yeah. What did he do before? Or did he always do his? Oprah. He was on Oprah. Yeah. I don't know if it was late nineties or early two thousands, but he was on Oprah a while and then he got his own TV show. I'm not sure exactly when, but early two thousands, I think. I think like a year or so before this, I think it should have started in like 2002. He's been doing a show for that long. Well, he just stopped. Yeah. I think it was 21 years. So yeah, I think, yeah, he just retired. People actually watched it for that long. I'm with you. We, we, we should not be wasting any more time talking about Dr. Well, as I'm certain, he's going to be joining us after that rousing ovation.

Competition adjudication competition established: False Reviewed full source context: Vitaly, why don't you tell us what we can expect next week when we cover the previous episode at season 10, episode 17, and it's called Penny on the Couch. Next week on Frasier, there's going to be a guy named Kenny sitting on a couch. Elaborate, go deeper. They do stuff with Kenny. Give, give one oddly specific thing you think will happen with one of the characters. They sit on a couch. They sit on a couch. Or, or who do you think Kenny is? Who do you think Kenny is? Wait, wait, do you, do you remember any of the names of any of the characters? Uh, I only know Frasier. Okay. Why is, why is Frasier with a guy named Kenny on a couch? My guess is Kenny's like a long lost relative or something. It's comes on, comes out to hang out with him. I don't know. Okay. So, okay. A long lost, not just a relative, a long, is that because you only know long lost relatives, all your relatives or cousins who aren't really related to you? No, it's because everything on this show doesn't make any sense. And so that would be something that would be completely out of left field. Oh, by the way, Vitaly, I think you have to be on some more episodes. I don't think so. I mean, this is, this is some guesswork that I think is far more insightful than most of Rhymes. What are you talking about?

Booking Vitaliy, then forgetting to remind him
Brad recounts getting Curtis’s text about inviting Vitaliy. Curtis explains that he remembered Russian dialogue in the episode and wanted their Russian-speaking guest to discuss it, while keeping that detail from Ryan. Having asked well in advance, he forgot to follow up until the previous night. Vitaliy jokes that he agreed in exchange for all four railroads and both utilities. The group compares this return with his earlier, quieter appearance.

Have they tried caviar?
Ryan asks about everyone’s past experience with caviar. The group shares personal stories, including Brad’s Russian-wedding story, before moving into the episode discussion. This is a conversation rather than a tasting challenge or scored activity.

Asking Vitaliy about the Russian dialogue
Curtis asks Vitaliy what the Russian characters were saying. Vitaliy explains the business-card exchange, identifies durak as meaning idiot and describes the instruction to give them the big can. The group asks whether the Russian dialogue contains an extra joke; his explanation does not reveal a hidden Easter egg. These are Vitaliy’s explanations in the recording, not independent translation verification.

Four different reactions to the episode
Curtis first asks Vitaliy for his assessment. Vitaliy calls the episode awful apart from the Russian-speaking portion and gives it two points, with no denominator established. The later yacht-party joke does not define a ten-point scale. Curtis asks Brad, who gives B+. Brad asks Curtis, who settles on number 4 of 31 after the number-seven interruption. Curtis then asks Ryan, whose final spoken rating is owner-confirmed as 7.7. Its /10 display follows the established Ryan convention.
This is an episode assessment or ratings-history summary. Ratings and any accompanying Council/scale banter remain intact; the composite summary is not a separate recurring interruption or game.

Would Vitaliy come back?
Asked about returning, Vitaliy remains reluctant. The hosts ask what the writers could do to make the show more Russian for him, and he asks for better Russian-speaking performers. That leads to trying other episode titles as possible selling points. His reactions are opinions about the show, not commitments to a future appearance.

RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Miss Right Now: conditional interest
Vitaliy asks whether the title means something like Miss Universe. The suggestion that attractive women might appear makes him conditionally interested. The hosts continue teasing the premise; this is willingness under an imagined interpretation, not a promise to watch.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Coots and Ladders: still no
The hosts describe an older woman and try the extra selling point that she was in the Olympics and dissed Hitler. Vitaliy asks which sport and says he has to consider the rest of the episode. The exchange includes deliberately provocative teasing; he explicitly rejects the suggestion that he is pro-Hitler and still does not want to watch. These jokes do not establish a political belief.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
Vitaliy’s CBGBs interjection
Vitaliy asks What about CBGBs?, then asks Are they doing CBD? and gives the tentative response transcribed could be fun, I don’t know. The original question and both follow-up voices are owner-confirmed. The literal CBGBs wording is retained rather than replaced with a guessed Frasier episode title.
More of this contribution
- Vitaliy asks “Are they doing CBD?” immediately after Vitaliy asks about CBGBs.
- Vitaliy gives the tentative reply transcribed “could be fun, I don’t know” in the CBGBs exchange.

RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
High Holidays: a more promising pitch
The hosts explain that the dad gets high at Christmas. Vitaliy asks whether he was funny, and the enthusiastic answer makes this one more appealing. The conversation detours into barbecue chips, a snack pack and what Curtis has been drinking, then returns to the observation that Vitaliy is more amenable because he does not actually have to watch.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
No Sex Please, We’re Skittish: absolutely not
Vitaliy rejects the title immediately. The hosts ask whether an episode promising sex would really interest him given the characters. He says that would not either, but he also does not want another twenty minutes of them talking or chasing caviar. The follow-up belongs with this rejection, not a separate game.
RECORDED ANSWER / CHOICE
The Devil and Dr. Phil: no interest
Vitaliy recognizes Dr. Phil and says he does not care for him. The hosts try the possibility that the devil might punish him, but the answer remains no. The conversation then expands into jokes and discussion about Dr. Phil; those participant claims are not independently verified here.
Preserved conversation context
Signing off, then losing the scene order
Curtis thanks Vitaliy and the listeners, closing with the usual credits and show contacts. Appended material returns to confusion about which bank and store scenes have already been covered. The group corrects the sequence and tells Curtis to get it together; the last exchange asks whether to start with Vitaliy. This is an editing postscript, not another rating or prediction.

Interruptions between the title pitches ↗
The interview includes a short interruption after the first title, a mail-jam callback directed at Brad, and a later Bradley introduction about relating to young people. In the mail exchange the group jokes about moving mail and correcting crimes; this is their banter rather than legal guidance. The Bradley exchange includes an uncomfortable joke and an immediate challenge to its wording. These interruptions remain separate from Vitaliy’s title judgments, with full source context retained.
By way of goodbye.
Best day.

Looking ahead
Vitaliy predicts Kenny on the Couch
Curtis invites Vitaliy to preview Kenny on the Couch. Vitaliy starts literally: a man called Kenny will sit on a couch, and they will do things with him. With further prompting, he guesses Kenny is a long-lost relative who comes to visit, explaining that an out-of-left-field idea fits his impression of the show. The hosts praise the guess compared with Ryan’s, without establishing whether it is correct.
