Delectable Collectibles

Curtis reads collections to Ryan and Brad in turn. Each must decide whether the collection is complete, identify it and, if necessary, name its missing item. Curtis’s intended grouping is authoritative. The final scoring explanation assigns one point for completeness, five for the collection and ten for the missing item. Eight distinct opportunities are presented below without forcing the source’s ambiguous round terminology into a fixed grouping.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: hot sauces

Tabasco, Sriracha, Frank’s, Cholula and Tapatio. Ryan says incomplete, calls it things for a Bloody Mary and proposes vodka. A correction reveals someone heard Worcestershire. Curtis judges the answer entirely wrong: the intended hot-sauce collection is complete.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: beach collectibles

Seashell, driftwood, starfish, sea glass and sand dollar. Brad says incomplete, identifies things found at beaches and suggests sand. Curtis considers the collection complete and rejects sand, but awards five points for identifying the group. A request to steal is refused at this point.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan’s arcade tokens; Brad steals the missing item

Chuck E. Cheese, Dave & Buster’s, DisneyQuest and Aladdin’s Castle. Ryan correctly says incomplete but guesses places Curtis liked as a child, adding Cedar Point. Curtis rejects that category and gives Ryan one point for incompleteness. Brad volunteers children’s arcades before an assigned steal; Curtis says the intended category is arcade tokens. Stealing is now allowed, Brad is invited to name the missing item and answers Discovery Zone for ten points. No extra category award to Brad is invented.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: Curtis’s coolest Pokémon

Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo and Eevee. Brad declares the list complete and calls it Pokémon Curtis is attracted to. Curtis rejects this: his intended list is the coolest Pokémon and is incomplete. The missing Pokémon is Oddish, as confirmed in the recording. A request for points does not change the explicit zero award.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: childhood Happy Meal toys

Halloween pails, McNugget Buddies, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Teenie Beanie Babies and Hot Wheels or Barbie. Ryan identifies Happy Meal toys and says complete. Curtis accepts both parts, specifying toys from his own childhood.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: Garfield merchandise

A telephone, alarm clock, suction-cup car-window plush, Funko Pop and a Cool Cat sunglasses mug. Brad says complete but calls it things Curtis’s dad leaves untouched in an attic. Completeness is correct; the intended category is Garfield merchandise.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Ryan: Noel’s autograph collection

Shatner, Stewart, Brooks and Mulgrew. Ryan says incomplete and identifies Star Trek commanders or people who ran the Enterprise. After a clue that the missing Scott rhymes with Dracula, he answers Scott Bakula. Curtis awards five points—half the missing-item value because of the hint—plus one for incompleteness, six total. He rejects the general category because his intended collection is Noel’s attempted autographs. Ryan later disputes the scoring, without an enacted change.

WHAT THEY BROUGHT

Brad: things Curtis has collected

The source lists Pogs, rocks, coins and “Yamakos.” Brad identifies things Curtis collects but incorrectly says complete. Ryan volunteers Pokémon cards; Brad later guesses Pokémon cards in his answer. Curtis reveals Crazy Bones as the missing item and awards Brad five points for the category.
